    Sounds similar to the problem I was having with the POV hat on my joystick. To make the POV hat go into the diagnol axes it was impossible to make it go directly into the corner. It had to go into either the X or Y axes then slide to the corner. Sadly there was nothing I could do to fix this(without taking the darn thing apart). But hey, I bet your controller would be great for pac man!
