I figured it out, not fully mentioned. If you lose your mouse, you have not. The mouse is actually just changed to a tiny black dot. Once you navigate to display settings and unhide mouse in windowed mode, head to mouse pointer settings in windows and select one of the pointer types. The mouse pointer then changes from the dot back to the standard windows mouse image. I was this close to factory resetting my pc....
