Hey Guys, I was fiddling with my system and I wanted to clean up my Emulator list. I know Game Ex has a Grouping function but is there anyway to make what I guess would be a Subgroup? For example; Right now if I group up all my Nintendo Emulators, it will show all the Games for Nintendo in one list. I'd like to group all my Nintendo Emulators not the games. So when I select the Nintendo Group I would see NES SNES N64 and then selecting one of those would take me to its respective games. I especially would like this for a Music Games Group but the problem I have is that for KaraFun I get a list of all the songs, but in that same list I have to look around for any other Music Game I have (UltraStar, Step Mania, Frets On Fire, Drum Machine...) so its pretty messy to have a list of playable songs as well as other "Emulators" Hope that makes some kind of sense. Thanks Nelson

Ok so I found the problem! Its in the std.ini file. I guess all the mappings in it are the mame defaults and I have my controller wired differently. So can I edit the std.ini file or is it getting its setting from somewhere else (if I edit it, will it just get overwritten by another file's settings?)
-
I was using one to try it out. I loaded it from gameex (-ctrl Nelson) and cpwizard still did the same thing. I've removed it for now to make tracking this down easier.

Which Ctrl file does it read? I have a bunch in there and I use non of them

Thanks guys for getting back. I wouldn't be surprised if my cfg was messing things up cause I spent alot of time setting up, but I mapped many of the buttons in the default.cfg just so i would have to do so many individual game setups. For example; I do have P1_Up= Keycode_C and P2_Up= Keycode_C because I use the player 1 and player 2 joystick for games like Crazy Climber that calls for 2 joysticks. So I went ahead and moved all my cfg's so there were none in the folder and I could start fresh. But before I started Mame, I went and tried CPWizards Preview mode. With no cfg's to read it still showed some wrong buttons... actually it had some new wrong buttons thrown in just to make it weirder I'm going to remove each button map in my default.cfg one by one to find which are doing this but in the mean time CPwizard is obviously getting info from somewhere else if I delete the default.cfg and it still shows me buttons.... right?

I'm having the same kind of problem. I designed my 4 player control panel in cpwizard. it works fine but for some games it shows buttons that I don't use and don't have mapped in my default.cfg file. This happens for more then one game but I attached Centipede cause its simple. My centipede cfg file has nothing in it cause I just use the default keys. to help clear up all these buttons, I've included a layout of my button mappings, as well as the CPwizard layout for Centipede with 2 extra buttons. What file (or files) does Cpwizard get its info from? Thanks (Sidenote: When you try to load or save a game in mame F7 or Shift+F7, CPWizard pops up because it detects Mame is paused... no biggie just something I thought I would mention in case its a simple fix) centiped.cfg.txt default.cfg.txt

DAM YOU ARE GOOD!!!! Yup it worked when I changed the theme. Why is that? What do I have set wrong

My rom filter is blank but that has always worked, and it still does work when I extract the files outside of gameex. Its only when GameEx tries to extract the roms that they come out at 1kb where as manually doing it gives me the correct file sizes. The sequence is; I select Nintendo 64 then I see the list of games (goodmerged) I select a game then it crashes instead of going to the next page where it would usually list the different roms with the little flag next to them. The log file says i have a DirectX error but I think thats just because it crashes going form one screen to the next (game list to game info) This happens with N64, Atari Lynx, and GBA (think that all the only 7zips I have) (had to change Gameex.ini to Gameex.ini.txt so that I could upload it) log.txt GameEx.ini.txt

Not sure its the exact same problem but I'm finding that any game that I have 7z'ed will not work. They used to work and I haven't changed anything. When I select a game from the list, instead of going to the info screen where I would pick the version of the rom I want (mario (u) ) it just crashes. When I go look in the rom folder, I have the Unzipped7-Zip folder and inside I see the right roms, BUT the file size is always 1kb! For some reason they aren't extracting completely. I installed the newer version of 7zip (even though I think Game Ex uses its own version, and it did nothing. Could this be a bug with the newer GameEx Update that included something about zipped roms? I haven't used my CAB in a few months but have kept updating it So I'm not sure which update might have done this. ***Just tried to extract the roms outside of Gamex and then selected that same game from inside gameex, and it worked! so its definetly something to do with Gameex not extracting the roms properly. Also when i exit the game and then go try it again it dosen't work and the roms are back to 1kb*** (I'm in arcade mode so I'll be asking all kinds of things... sorry in advance)

Hey thanks Tom, it worked. Didn't realize i could type in the box thought it was only a browse to folder thingy

No its an option to show a picture for a few seconds before the game starts. The same way it shows the control panel before a MAME game starts. Its in the setup under each emulator (Controls Path)

Allo, just have a quick question. I found the option to have GameEX show a pic of a controller before a game launches (other emulators not MAME) but for the life of me I can't figure out what to name the picture to have it pop up for all games in a certain Emulator. The help text say; "A single image file can also be specified to be used for all games" What is it? For example; For Nintendo NES I can see the pic if I start "Super Sprint" only if I name the pic "Super Sprint (U) (Unl).png" not "Super Sprint.png" but what do I name it so it'll show the pic for all games. I tried Nestopia, NES, ENU_13, Folder etc.... but nada. BTW I know about CPwizard and do use it, but this is such a nice and simple thing to have so I'd like to take advantage of it. Thanks

I was messing with stuff and turned off 3dAlpha Blending and now its working! It worked fine before enabled but no biggie.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I still havn't figured it out. I don't have any other versions of mame installed. I just upgraded to Mame 0.124u5 and neither this version nor the last has any XML files. All the controls are in CFG format. I looked through all my setting and everything seems right. In the Mame.ini file it has (cfg_directory cfg) so I don't know why my system isn't using XML files.

Just did the update and now but now it will start to the main screen but as soon as i pick anything from the main menu, it will just crash. I was working fine up till 9.22, I skipped 9.23 I guess. Crash_Log.txt

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a GameEx Problem or a Mame one, but every once in awhile I find that my custom mapped default.cfg file gets over written with the Mame default keys. Its not a regular thing and I only really notice when I need to play a 2player or more game. I have backup of the file that I just put back but I know this is not something that is normal. Has anyone ever dealt with this? Everything runs great besides that. Thanks in advance

Hey again, I've been using the script Stu made and its been perfect. I just redid my controls and I need to remap some buttons for certain emulators. I'm using Autohotkey and so far so good. I just have a question sice I'm new to the scripting. How would I add lctrl::r down::x up::g space::5 to the Karafunlauncher script. I've tried placing it in different places in the script and it does what its supposed too, except for exiting. (I know i'm not doing it right by just randomly throwing it in) Could someone let me know what I need to do. Thanks

Olla, I just redid my control panel. I had it hooked up with 4 modded PS2 controllers but decided to clean it all up and bought an I-Pac4. So far I love it. I haven't actually played too much with it since I just now finished rewiring it, but I thought I would ask you guys ahead of time for some help before I spend hours testing the different possibilities.... The IPac by default seems to use some of the same keys for different players; For Example Player 1 Button 8 is V and so is Player 4 Left & Player 2 Buttons 5 to 8 AND Player 3 Up, Down, Left, Right all use keys I,K,J,L Even though I only have 6 buttons is there a recommended configuration to use for the Ipac so that each player has its own Key, not only in Mame but also in other emulators? I just want to avoid programming the IPac with my own settings only to find out that it does something else (especially with Mame having so many used keys) What have you done to get around this? Thanks for the help

!BUMP! This is an old request that I worked around but I figured I would ask again. Is it possible to set a specific controller in the Emulator Configuration file and not All Controllers? I know you can map a certain button press to exit a game, but I have 1 hacked controller that I want to use button 2 to exit all my emulators, but GameEx seems to exit the emulator it I press button 2 on any of my Controllers. Right now I'm using Joy2Key on a few emulators just for an Exit button. I would like to clean up the process with the Mapfile if possible. Merci for any help

Wow, I wish I had that script before I actually just copied the folder names from the command prompt and used Excel to sort out the names, and Word to clean it up. I didn't rename anything (I think) those are the names that came from the Torrent I downloaded. (ummm and I used a torrent because I'm too lazy to rip all my CD's... of the songs I downloaded )
