Hi Tom, now that I've spent half the day with tagging/retagging/sorting of my mp3's I've come to the conclusion that there must be a little bug in GameEx . I'm using ID3-tagging for all my mp3 and I generally put version 1 and version 2 to the files. Whatever I do, some albums don't show up in GameEx. The funny thing is that you see all the titles in the "titles" list (even the album art is displayed when highlighted), but you neither see them in the "artist" listing nor in the "album" listing (and also not in the new "artist/album). I swear that the files are properly tagged, I did it for at least a dozen times for these albums just to check out different freedb entries and I even tried it by manually typing the tags and by using different tag-editors. You see me a little desperate about this cause I don't have a clue what the problem is. My assumtion was that it could possibly be some kind of "overflow" cause it's quite a lot of albums. Therefore I created a different folder where I put simply three of the affected albums an one working one. This folder was then specified as location for the music in the GameEx coniguration editor but the result was the same a before. If you feel that it makes sense I could zip together these small JukeboxData.dat and JukeboxFiles.dat files and PM them to you... . Another point that was already mentioned before is that GameEx has some problems with different albums having the same names. I.e. you have "Bush - Best Of" and you have "Creed - Best Of" then you'll find all songs from both albums with "Bush" and with "Creed" album view. The workaround is of course to name the albums a different way (i.e. "Best Of Bush" and "Best Of Creed") but anyway I think it's an issue worth to mention... Since I've installed Vers. 6.57 I have problems with the playlist in terms that any time I choose "view actual playlist" it always shows me all the mp3 I have and not only the ones I've actually chosen for playing. Additionally I cannot clear this list. Obviously I have a general problem in understanding the concept behind the playlist in GameEx. Why does it always automatically start playing the (alphabeticvally) first song in my mp3 list when starting the jukebox??? This doesn't make sense in my eyes as I would like to choose first what I want to listen to an then actively start the playback. Did I miss something ? Last point is that radio doesn't stop playing for me when switching to jukebox. It simply continues to play in parallel to the jukebox sounds. This is NOT due to a specific radio station but true for all stations. No way of turning them off... . Thanks for listening to me! I wouldn't write that much if I wouldn't like GameEx that much Nullus

Hi Chazz, I got your point and I do have the same "problem". Would be glad if we could have an option like you mentioned... .

Yippeee! Thanks for this one! Great!

This is why I would like to check back with an older version of gameex. Just to rule out any strange coincidences. Is there a hidden link where I could DL the 6.53 again?
-
Hi Tom, have you done some changes to the codebase of the "radio" functionality? Some of my favourite radio stations do not play from within GameEx any more (they work OK from within Webbrowser or Media Player). I'd like to give it a try back with an older version of GameEx (i.e. 6.53 or 6.54, where everything ran fine). Is there a source where I could download an older version to give it try? If it helps here are the url of the non working stations: http://lsd.newmedia.tiscali-business.com/b...ve&media=ms http://lsd.newmedia.tiscali-business.com/b...ve&media=ms Cheers

Hi Stuart, it's very simple. You do/download your artwork-file rename it to "folder.jpg" and put it in the same folder where your mp3 reside. I think GameEx first looks in this folders and if it finds a pic it is taken. Unfortunately GameEx downloads other artwork from amazon anyway (if it can be found there). Greetz

As far as I understood you cannot add any entries to custominput.ini (like your "volumeup") but only modify the existing ones. Lets assume you want to change the keystroke for "up": For me it's associated with scancode 72. Looking at the scancode.txt 72 corresponds to "NumPad8". If I'd like to change it to "F8" (stupid I know but anyway) I look up the scancode for "F8" which is 66 for me. Knowing this I modify my custominput.ini with: "up=66" instead of "up=72" nullus

Well, although my english is far away from being perfect and might sound somehow complicated sometimes I'll do my very best... . (and in fact there a few "open" threads of mine) nullus

I'm terribly sorry, I missed this option (in fact I had to go twice through the config menus to find it). Shame on me. Please delete this topic before it confuses anybody else.

Hi Tom, for those of us that do not use a standardized keyboard layout (like standard mame, Ipac, etc.) it would be helpful to have the freedom of choice for the keystroke to bring up the control panel viever ("L" is standard). It would be perfect to have this option included in the custominput.ini or, if this is for some reason not possible, to add an option in the config menue to turn CP-Viever functionality on/off. I'm using a keyboard hack to control my cabinet and for this you need as much flexibility as possible. nullus P.S.: Oopsidaisy. This post was meant to queue up in the "request" post. Sorry for the new thread

Hi Brett, hopefuly I understood correctly what you mean... . If so I've a very similar wish I already posted HERE. Having a few hundred albums on you HD things start to get difficult and inconvenient with the existing sorting options.
-
Thanks for your feedback although it leaves me a little bit helpless behind. In the meantime I have this "phenomenon" on two different GameEx installations and I don't see any way out. I have the same config you have in terms of "file audio tags" and play on startup=no . It's weird that I seem to be the only one...

Sorry, but I have to bring this one up again... . After having an eye on this issue I find that it happens every time I switch from radio to jukebox. When the radio is running and I'd like to go for some jukebox-music the radio simply does not stop playing. So you end up with a cacophony of all sound sources . Is this a problem for someone else (could probably someone try to confirm this?) or will I be a lonesome rider with this Many thanks for some feedback, Nullus

Now that I extensively test GameEx for myself I came across some small issues (bugs?!). This time it's that one: When I go for some Webradio and afterwards I'd like to switch to jukebox it sometimes happens to me that the radio doesn't stop to play but you get both the radio and the jukebox playingat the same time. I haven't found a way out so far but to restart GameEx . It happens occasionally and it is independant of the radiostation I was listening to. This is what I can say for the moment. The other bug I found is explained HERE. Anything known bout this? Nullus

Thanks for replying. It's somehow good to know I am not the only one out there having this problem . I tried out exactly the same things you did without any success. I also thought of renaming the "best of" to "Best of Xxx" but this is only a workaround and not a solution of the problem. Apart from that it is not so very convenient to manually change all the mp3 tags. Normally (the hopefully continued) freedb does that job for me with great success (BTW: Do you know of a freeware ID-Editor that could do the job in a batch process)? I still think that it is sort of a bug in the jukebox feature Tom should know about and may be we get some statement on this. nullus

Hi all, although I guess that Tom is out for vacation (if so: enjoy it!) as he wasn't active in the board for a couple of days I'm pretty sure that he'll return to us some day I guess I found a bug in the jukebox (yeah it's me and the jukebox again ) When you have more than one album with the same title they don't show up as separate albums in the "sort by album" list. I.E. You have "The Cure - Best of" (20 tracks) and you have "Robbie Williams - Best of" (15 tracks) You won't find these two albums in the list but instead you'll find one of the two with 35 tracks As I have by now five different "Best of" albums in my list I end up with one (arbitrary chosen ?) "Best of" album containing 80 song from 5 different albums.... . Hope you get the point. Can anybody confirm this? Ah yes, I use the mp3-tag method... . nullus

Completed Feature Requests (Moved)

Hi Tom, after testing this and that for a while I would like to draw a suggestion for the jukebox in GameEx. Me personally I would prefer to have an additional sorting option. --by album -------- by artist ---------by name For now if you choose "by album" all albums are listed alphabetically wich is confusing and a little bit inconvenient when you have a few hundred albums on your HD (means a lot of scrolling and you have to remember all the album names exactly which is not easy for an old guy like me ). It would make things so much easier and more transparent to have all albums from one artist at a glance. Secondly, as already mentioned elsewhere, I'm asking myself why GameEx starts to play automatically when entering the jukebox? Especially because you can not influence the song it starts to play. It's simply the first song in the list (wich I do not want to listen to every time I fire up the jukebox ). Wouldn't it be better to give it a manual start, especially as it is not so easy to stop the jukebox from playing for those of us that do neither have a MCE remote control nor a keyboard but instead a cabinet with a limited amount of buttons and joysticks... . My last point for today deals with a potential bug (?!?): Not all (music) albums show up in GameEx. I'm using ID3 tagging for my mp3 and I checked a dozen of times that the albums that don't show up in GameEx are properly tagged. I already tried to delete the JukeboxData.dat and JukeboxFiles.dat with no effect. I did a retagging of the affected albums with a slightly different tag ==> also no effect. They simply don't show up in my GameEx list wich drives me mad... . Any idea on that? Any comments highly appreciated, nullus -
Sorry, didn't want to bother anybody, but we're not discussing alternative software. We just try to find a workaround for a weak point in the otherwise unrivaled and rocking GameEx... .
-
I totally agree. The jukebox and radio feature needs some polishing! I also have some "issues" with that: - no keystroke to start/stop the music (cabinet friently) - some albums don't show up eventhough they do have a correct ID3 tagging (bug?) - why does GameEx automatically start playing the first song in the list when opening the jukebox, I would like to choose first... (anyone feels the same?) and my very personal whish: - free configurable jukebox menu as I'd prefer to have the "by album" as a standard (by now I have a few hundred albums included and to have the songlist first starts to become sort of complex @j2m2t2 do you have a link for me for the "Arcade Jukebox 8" My google seems to be broken for the moment... Hi all, May be I haven't understood the concept behind it but I wonder whether it is possible to stop the jukebox from automatically playing the first song in the list when starting? Every time I go for Multimedia==>jukebox it immediatly starts to playack the first song in the "titles" list. This doesn't make sense in my eyes as I would like to choose first what I'm going to listen to. Is there any chance to avoid this? Is there any keystroke (on a "normal" keyboard without having a remote control for MCE) to stop a song from playing? This question relates also to the radio playback. I'm grateful for any help and insights. Nullus

In fact there is NO bezel visible in your pic. So it doesn't make me wonder that the game is fullscreen... To shorten it up: A bezel is arranged around the playfield of a game which requires on a monitor necessarily that the game itself has to shrink. If not the bezel would cover part of the playfield. It's that easy

Worked nice for me and I really appreciate this new feature. I'm always glad I don't have to waste harddisk storage for useless stuff and as I'd like to stick to the default theme there's no need for the others. In case I need them, I'll download them. Perfect! Not to talk about the poor people on dial-up connections. Two minor things to mention: 1. you outline version 6.07 on your webpage but after installation it turns out to be 6.06 (extremly minor point ) 2. What I did before updating to 6.06 was, I deleted every theme from my HD apart from the 5 Custom V2 Defaults. After installation of 6.06 WITHOUT downloading any other theme I got all the (mostly empty) folders of the other themes back like "deep purple", "video fun" a.s.o.

So maybe you post a snapshot of the one that you think it looks alright. Again, I can't find anything strange in the pics you've posted. For mame32 there are commandline options: -[no]artwork_crop / -[no]artcrop Crop artwork to game screen size only. -artwork_resolution / -artres Sets the resolution for the artwork in a game (0 for auto) Don't know whether these work for DOS mame as well but it might worth a try although I don't really see the problem.... I have included two pics how it looks for me with and without bezels using mame32.
-
Hm, to me it looks quite normal. Of course the game has to shrink when you use the bezel artworks around it. So in total you get a fullscreen vertical (left pic) and a fullscreen horizontal (right pic). Anyway I think there is an option in mame32 called "Crop artwork" try to play around with this a little. It might help.
