I have my copy of GameEx Registered and am tying to view the manual. When I select my game (madden '08), i see the basics: Title, Box, Cartridge, 2 Custom art paths (Offense, Defense Controls), and Manual. The Manual is .pdf, and the name of the manual is the same as the game. When I select Manual...the snap image displays and screen starts the transition process to the selected item, but abruptly snaps back to the screen listing Snap, Title, Box, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks

Worked. Thanks!

I'm trying to get riven to play through GameEx. I have setup Myst, Riven, and Exile as a single Emulator named Emulator 3 (Myst Series) The basic setup is as follows: Rom Filter = *.lnk Rom Path = C:\Emulators\Myst Games Working Path = C:\Emulators\Myst Games Command Line = "[rompath]\[romfile]" If go to the rom path directly and double-click on the shortcut links all games work fine. When I select the games within GameEx only Myst, and Exile play. Riven will go to a black screen. If I go to the task manager, i can see that the Riven.exe process is running. I am at a loss as to why the game will not work within GameEx. Any suggestion? Thanks so much!

Is there a setting to change the gameex transparency color?

Okay I found the post: Here is the link to the post: http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=3 Then scroll down to post # 15 by Lorecarver. This worked like a charm for me. For Doom and Duke3d the Esc key is needed to view options within the game. So I mapped my 'Kill Switch' to be the key "e". The download instruction files worked great (a little tricky for me at first to grasp) and provided me with a way to change the kill switch key. You will have to change the the mapkeys configuration within the config file in gameex for that emulator. Send me a note if you have questions.

Yes I keep all my .lnk flies for my "Myst Series" emulator in one folder. I do have a couple of PC games (Doom and Duke Nukem) as .bat files in the same folder and they work fine. They are set up as individual emulators, but the .bat files reside in the same folder with the emulator set up to locate the specific game name.bat (ie. doom.bat & duke3d.bat) as opposed to my Myst series games setup as *.lnk.

I have not noticed anything really. All my games run smoothly. I am running a Intel Core 2 duo 1.8 GHz 2MB ram

I found a great tutorial for dosbox, but can't find the author on how to utilize Autoit Script editor to configure your own 'kill switch'. Let me look for it again and I will post the link

I have Myst, Riven, and Exile setup as a Emulator #3 in my setup. It is named (Myst Series). I have Daemon Pro setup so I have over 8 virtual drives to put other PC games as well ( Madden '08, Spore, Call of Duty, etc). The .iso images are setup to be permanently mounted on specific virtual drives. This is a setting using Daemon Tools. This way i don't have to ever worry about launching the .exe. Instead I setup the emulator to look for a <gamename>.lnk file. Here is my config file: [Emulator_3] Enabled=True STARTPAGENAME=Myst Series TITLETEXT=Myst Series StartPageLogo=mystseries ROMFilter=*.lnk RomPath=C:\Emulators\Myst Games RomsInFolders= SnapPath=C:\Assests\Myst Games\Snap TitlePath=C:\Assests\Myst Games\Title BoxPath=C:\Assests\Myst Games\Box CartPath=C:\Assests\Myst Games\Cartridge ManualPath= ControlPanelPath= InstructionsPath= WorkingPath=C:\Emulators\Myst Games MapKeys=True WaitBeforeKeys= SendKeys= ReplaceDash= ReplaceUnder= Capitals= RemoveBrackets= ShowDesktop=False Debug= MAPFile= AlsoLaunch= Command=cmd.exe /c [rompath]\[romfile] LaunchBefore= LaunchAfter= configFile= ExcludedFiles= CustomBackground=mystbak.png PlayMusic= DontShowInfo= PlaySelectionMusic= SelectionMusicFolder= PCGame= DATABASE=pcgames UseDbName= GamesIn7Zips= MergeSets= PlayInScreenSaver= ShowMostPlayed= RandomMostPlayed= CDCheck= CDCheckFile= CustomArtName1=Game Maps CustomArtPath1=C:\Assests\Myst Games\Map CustomArtName2= CustomArtPath2= CustomArtName3= CustomArtPath3= lastgame=

What I have done is to go to the folder where your theme exists. For me it is: C:\Programs Files\GameEx\THEMES\My Theme In that folder you should see your <themename>.ini file. You can edit that file with Notepad. when you open that file look toward the bottom where you should see: (these are my settings of course) [Layout] Title=218,56,124,64 Date=808,728,68,32 Time=110,729,67,32 List=20,138,369,505 SelectLine1=20,55,163,32 SelectLine2=20,88,173,32 Menu=459,5403,30,130 Image=459,47,541,421 ListNum=20,657,122,32 If you change the Menu line to read: Menu=1,1,1,1 The first number represents the X axis placement The second number represents the Y: axis The third number represents the width of the object The fourth number represent the height of the object It will place it in the top right corner and out of place. Do not place "0" for the numbers because this will cause GameEx to error out. Works great if you want it out place and out of sight

I agree after looking at compiling MAME again (HI-Score), I have come to the conclusion that it is easier to not update the game list. And in the rare case that I do update the game list....I can blow out the gameinfo file with my saved edited file.
-
Is there a good way to change the way a MAME game is displayed in my List of games? I have used the function of omitting the bracketed text, but I would like to actually edit the names a bit more. Right now I have manually edited the gamelist file located in the DATA folder. See example Original File: gtmr|1000 Miglia: Great 1000 Miles Rally (94/07/18)|Kaneko|1994|True|Driving / Race|True|H|320|240||[-LF-][-LF-]A racing game featuring classic cars from Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes Benz and more.[-LF-][-LF-]||2P alt|0|False|True|joy8way;dial;paddle||kaneko16.c My Edited File: gtmr|Great 1000 Miles Rally|Kaneko|1994|True|Driving / Race|True|H|320|240||[-LF-][-LF-]A racing game featuring classic cars from Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes Benz and more.[-LF-][-LF-]|43[-LF-]146|2P alt|0|False|True|joy8way;dial;paddle||kaneko16.c Is there a way to create a table or .MDB file to have GameEx reference the change of name? This way is fine...however, when I ever update the game list. This file is replaced by the 'default' file. Any suggestions?

I apologize for the infraction. I should have known that.

I have *********************if you are interested.

Look at the log file. This is how I found out what was wrong. It's easy from there.
-
Alright - I found the log. I then went to Advanced Configuration Application and then went to Basic Mame Settings and removed the Video Snap Path. I do have .avi files for all of my games, but they were never showing up. I don't really care to see the videos of the games but I do want to see the Snaps. Thanks for the Log file comment. That helped a lot. Cheers

Where do I find the log?

I have a problem with my snap images not displaying. Out of 216 games only 15 will display a snap image while scrolling through my list of MAME games. This is apparent also after I select the game as well. After I select the game these same 15 games will display an image while scrolling though "Play This Game" as well. All games show the images for Marquee, Cabinet...etc. But the Snap images do not show up while both scrolling through the games and while selecting play this game. I do have snaps for all games in the .png format. They are all in the same location C:/emulators/mame/snap. Any thoughts??
-
You are correct sir! I sit at my desk corrected.

I have used a custom folder that I made for MAMEUI and placed in my c:\emulators\mame\customfolders path Next update the listing within GameEx and is should read your file Step 1: Open up a new text document Step 2: Create a file that looks like this [Light Gun] combat crossbow sgunner sgunner2 [Trackball] ccastles centiped gridlee gt2k gt97 marble milliped missile wcbowldx [Driving] gmtr demoderb konamigt LAGUNAR MONTECAR outrun polepos polepos2 sprint1 ssprint turbo toutrun2 [Trigger Stick] aburner2 buckrog gorf tron dotron starwars SZAXXON XENOPHOB zaxxon [spinner] arkanoid circus tempest sbrkout Step 3: Save as a .ini file Step 4. Launch GameEx. Then go to your Mame Screen. At the bottom of your list of categories. There should be a update list button. Click that and let it rip. You are done now. I went through the Advanced Config and got rid of the all the Mame standard list (e.g. Vertical Games, Horizontal Games. etc) so only my categories would show up. That's it. You can add more categories if you like. Just add Brackets before the category heading
