  1. This is great that you guys have given your experiences and what you use THANK YOU! Actually the guy invited me over to his shop to see for myself next week so I think I will go. He swears that AMD Semprons are the way to go and these games run smooth. I dunno I guess I'll report back with stats on what I find out. I guess seeing a couple Intel systems and an AMD being jerky makes me feel better LOL! Thanks again ..... all other opinions welcome too!
  2. The game is CarnEVIL not carnival as a 386 could run carnival . I don't know what to believe thus the reason I'm asking the users of this forum for help and opinions. I would like an AMD or Intel person to post their hardware specs and run Carnevil or for that matter NFL Blitz 99 to see if the sound is quirky for them also. My graphics are almost perfect but when the sound starts hosing up it really takes it's tole on the graphics as well. Anyone else care to share?
  3. A little off the beaten path......bare with me please. "This has nothing to do with GameEx" I met a person last night that is opening an arcade shop here in Oregon. I was telling him how I would love to build a dedicated machine for each style of game. So I would have a stand alone machine that only had driving game son it, another one with only fighting games and another machine for shooting and so forth. He laughed and said he's actually selling units for this exact reason. Almost there keep reading: This guy mentioned he had Carnevil running as his demo for shooting. I also have this ROM but the game is SOOOO friggin jerky it sucks to play. He said it was because I'm using Intel products. I asked him about Gauntlet Legends which also runs like crap and he said it runs smooth on his lower end AMD stuff. My config is an Intel 955XBK board with a Pentium Extreme 3.2ghz, "Which acts like 4 procs running" 2 gig of 667 ram, ATI X800GTO video card, all SATA drives and it is all liquid cooled. I was hoping it is the sigmatel integrated audio doing this so I shut it off in the bios and stuck in a sound blaster live card and no dice...same issue. I have updated every friggin driver including the bios and firmware for the drives. Since I work for Intel I have the ability/option to swap every piece of hardware also. The optimized P4 version of Mame doesn't help either. Tweaking XP doesn't help either ... I'm just lost and don't want to chuck my bad ass system because it runs some games like crap. I think the guy is correct but I have no AMD stuff to play with here LOL! PLEASE will you guys tell me what you're runnning for hardware and try Carnevil and Gauntlet legends and tell me if the video is jerky or the sound is jerky or both? Thanks everyone. PS Tom, for what it's worth I tried getting the guy to buy GameEx and sell that as the front end
  4. I guess I never really gave much thought about using the binaries to create the dat while keeping the "stable" mame version in use. But wouldn't it be true to say that if you are not using the current/latest mame32.exe then Mame32 would not see any NEW games that were available right? I'm no Mame expert but I do believe this would be correct. As far as Tom and what his "supposive" responsibilities are..... I guess if he decided to say screw all of this and quit he has every right to do so. But I would believe since he is not only a developer he has a true love for the arcade side also. Mame is undergoing so many changes right now do to the fact there are so many games that cannot be correctly rendered via hardware...thus the reason they are changing the engine would be "my guess." I'm all for it! I've seen so boards and projects shut down due to no one willing to donate but more importantly, the site becomes a griping ground and I definently don't want this to happen here. I personally love GameEx and say, "Thank you for a great program Tom."
  5. It is not a bug between u3 and u4 even tho I'm certain u4 has bugs as well that I am unaware of. What DID fix the problem was selecting the option to NOT use bezel artwork for vertical games in GameEx config. This is verified to happen with the latest GameEx AND latest Mame32 107.u4. The question being asked of "Why we insist on using beta's needs to be answered and maybe even debated??!!! If someone can tell me how I can download the pleasuredome updates, use clrmame without having the latest exe to create the dat then by all means I'll listen. I have tried using the dat they supply and it seems to not work with Mame32qa ya know?! Anotehr thing is with all the MAJOR changes going on with Mame it is inevidable that GameEx will be broken in some way shape or fashion and this just might be an easier way of Tom getting prepped to deal with it...I dunno. It must be frustrating for Mr. Speirs ..... you have my sympathy but until someone can tell me how to update my roms without a current DAT then I will continue to use the latest release.
  6. I tried using the option on the installer as well as going to and grabbing the themes.7z file. Neither will complete downloading. I've tried this from work and home and the result is the same. No magic number when it quits either. "Two different systems two different places." Anyone else seeing this?
  7. Thanks for the help guys. I will try it when I get home tonight. But I do have to wonder why GameEx is angry but yet Mame32 runs ok? Hmmmmm I'll post the results tomorrow. Thanks again!
  8. 3 nights ago I fired up my cabinet, updated Mame32 from 107u2 to 107u3 ..... used clrmamepro, opened up mame32 and re-audited the roms. Then opened up GameEx which said it had an update so I let it work it's magic. After the update I invoked the update games list feature. I came back and it was sitting there waiting for me to play. I started a game and the screen went black for about 5 seconds and came right back to the play this game screen. I thought maybe the rom was messed up so I chose another game. Same thing. I tried at least 7 different games and none of them would start up. I started the games out of Mame32 and they played just fine. Assuming I had a botched upgrade I renamed the directory....downloaded the rev that came out yesterday and did a fresh install .... once again the screen goes black for about 5 seconds then throwing me back to the play this game screen. I am unable to use GameEx and have no idea where or how to fix this? I also noticed the ENTER key/button will periodically stop working in GameEx but using it outside of GameEx like in notepad it works fine. This started two revisions ago. I use an IPAC4 with Media Center 2005 Thanks in advance.
  9. I totally agree. Worth every penny that I could have spent at the strip joint. That's how much your software means to me! Now THAT should be all the encouragement you need so get cracking LOL! Thanks Tom splendid job!
  10. I would like to answer this question......... Why are there so many Mahjong games in Mame? MAME is a collection ...... it helps us old timers keep the nostalgia alive AND allows us the "extra benefit" of experiencing what the JAPANESE and EUROPEANS experienced when they were kids. Do I like seeing flippin Mahjong? No....not at all BUT that's why Mame has a filter and Tom was kind enough to not only add a filter option BUT ALSO the delete key function. Mame is a collection ..... and personally I like to see people SHAT their drawers when they see 6140 some games show up LOL!
  11. LOL! This will always be an age old problem...drivers. If the latest and greatest drivers doesn't fix it then if available revert to an older driver. If onboard sound was doing this also, then I'd have to safely assume you have other issues as I have a dual core laptop and dual core desktop and neither have an issue. DEFRAG my man defrag.... this will cause chattering. Make sure you have the latest bios installed. If none of the affore mentioned works then try another flavor of mame. ... like advanced mame for instance. One of the above should give you closure.
  12. You should probably edit the registry and manually check if the reg key has been added. Also clear your temp files and cache just to be on the safe side.
  13. The code on that line is 76. I have removed it so there is nothing on that line now. The problem still persists..... hitting L activates that Control Panel menu. I then revisited that option and set the value to zero. Tried again and now it works perfectly thank you for your advise as it pointed me in the right direction.
  14. DANGIT it's not Cntrl +L please readon for actual issue ... sorry it serves me right for trying to post this at work. I have an IPAC4 and when I try to play any 4 player game like Gauntlet or Rampage World Tour I can ring in 4 players but as soon as the games start and we start pounding buttons the game pauses, flickers and brings up the control panel screen. Pressing L again resumes the game. I read the online docs : View control panel while MAME is playing It says Keyboard is L and I'm using an IPAC4 which is in essence a keyboard right? But yet the docs say the IPAC is incapable of viewing the control panel right? I'm confused I guess. So I am using the default MAME32 setting and P3 Right is L so do you see the problem? This does not occur if playing through Mame32 outside of GameEx. It happens with 0.105 and 0.106 How in the heck do I stop this from happening as I'm getting crabby again LOL!!!!????? Any help appreciated - a crabby ole man
  15. GameEx does "cache" a list ..... thats the reason you have to run the scan for games option because it writes a file list. If it were me...I'd unplug your network cable and THEN turn your system on. I am hoping/guessing what you are deeming to be a GameEx problem is probably your system is probably trying to obtain an IP from the server/or linksys router or what ever you are using to provide DHCP .....OR....... if you have a static IP you could have a routing problem "not likely"......OR......you have an internal DNS issue which is unlikely but that'll slow the hell out of anything if it is. I guess let's just remove the network out of this equation. If firing up the system "off the network" and GameEx loads up fine then it's probably not GameEx right? Change your theme to a low res default...does that change anything? Secondly, Copy a couple roms to your mame/roms folder and then, you'll need to change your config to point to that folder and then rescan the games. Exit GameEx .... reboot and bring GameEx back up...."off the network" does that load any faster? Does a game like Donkey Kong load fast across your network? "It better snap right up" Try Area 51 ...it uses a CHD file....how long does it take for that to load? IDEAS????? Sure I have ideas for you. If you plan on utilizing a file server and pulling craploads of data over you need to just buck up and upgrade your network to 1 gig. OR you do what most people I know do "including myslef" which is cough up $200 for 400 gig from NEWEGG.com so you can pile every game you have on the system locally. I'd really appreciate a post back on the outcome so others can learn from our experiment.
  16. I just like using the phrase crapped out is all I'll post back if any more issues.
  17. I just recently had the chance to fire my cabinet up which was probably a couple revs behind on GameEx. The autoupdate kicked on....took a LONG time to update but finally finished. Let me mention I have 8 meg down 768 up soo that's not the issue. GameEx tried to restart and bombed out with "GameEx performed an illegal option blah blah." I rebooted and tried again same thing. I downloaded the latest version of GameEx and installed it and it worked fine. I just now had a house full of people show up and wanted to play the arcade. I tried firring up GameEx and the autoupdate kicked on. Yet again taking for ever to update and then causing that error again. Sorry I don't have the exact error but I was embarrased that my pride and joy was crapping out in front of my friends ANYWAY again I had to install the latest GameEx and it worked again. So my question is this....why in the heck is this stupid thing trying to update if I have the supposive latest? Is Tom pumping snapshots down the pike or what? Secondly I disabled the autoupdate to prevent this from happening again. This system has a completely fresh Media Center 2005 load and the latest and greatest GameEx. I have had NO problems until this latest GameEx got pushed. Thanks!
  18. You are correct backspace does work. I was so used to hitting my left arrow key to back up using MAME I assumed it would work for Daphne as well?! Thanks for your help!
  19. I recently installed Daphne on my arcade. I have verified the games work through Daphne as a stand alone. I then setup GameEx and all games I have inputted show up as available and I am able to play them. The problem: Unfortunately when I exit out of the game it takes me back to the screen you normally see right after selecting the game you want to play and I am unable to get back to the full list of games. I have to shut down GameEx and restart the program just to select a new game. Any help is greatly appreciated!
  20. Tom is correct and all of us are wrong! Try this and see if your luck changes. In configuration goto Advanced MAME Settings: Set up options as listed - "short version you should understand" No No No Yes No No Japan yadda yadda yadda blank "meaning nothing listed" Gimme the Porn Gimme Mahjong I want clones Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Now Update lists and you should see your numbers substantially grow. Hope this helps!
  21. Here's the outcome. MAMEPLUS shows 6082 games with no filtering and NOW Gameex shows 6022. Still a difference which I cannot figure out for the life of me why but it's sure better than previous numbers. 22. I would say you're not alone. http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=1212
  23. I too am experiencing the number of games being incorrectly reported. MAMEPLUS0.104 shows 6082 games with no filtering being performed. MAMEWAH with no filtering being performed shows 5939 games. Gameex using MAMEPLUS0.1.04 without filtering "gimme porn, gimme mahjong, gimme clones" tells me I have 3564 games. I have blown away MAMEPLUS and put in fresh and audited. Gameex still incorrectly reports total amount of games. Ok, so I removed Gameex version 5.45 and installed 5.73. Turned off every discriminating feature that might cause game loss. Now Gamex reports 3270 which is 294 games less???? I hate to say this but it sure looks like something funny going on with Gameex. Tom what say you?
