Hi Guys, I've been using Game Ex for a couple of months now and it is a fantastic programme. I have MAME working gereat with it and it's a pleasure to be able to view flyers etc for the games etc before selecting them. The only thng is, I cannot get any other emulators running with game Ex correctly:-( Kega Fusion; I have this running great outside of Game Ex, however when I try to run it through Game Ex I just get the GUI popping up (the fuzzy TV screen/white now screen) - it doesn't load the game which I am selecting to start through Game Ex. Also if I do start a game once game Ex has taken me to the "TV screen" screen (by using a mouse plugged in), the button which usualy takes me out of MAME (it's button near the start button on my cab) - isn't taking me out of Kenga Fusion (the escape key on a keyboard does though). Zsnes; I also have this working fine outside of Game Ex, however when i got to load a game through Game Ex, the screen ust goes black for a second and then it kicks me back to teh game Ex game select screen (I have turned the GUI off in the Zsnes config). Zinc; i get the same problem as above when MAME trys to use Zinc to Load Tekken 2 for example; just a black screen, then kicks me back to game Ex. The differenceher ethough, is taht i can't actualy get Zinc working outside of Game Ex either:-( - i click on the .exe and nothing realy happens. Any help would be appreciated, as i don't want to Shell game Ex on my Cab until i can have Megadrive and Snes emus also set up. Many thanks in advance;_)

Hi, I copied some MP3 albums over to my mame cab (and also installed media player 10) - I can play music etc, however is there not a way to show the album covers when i'm playing some music?. Many thanks.

For some reason GameEx is not showing all my games in the games list (I will create a new topic for this). In the GameEx setup, I have slected (show clones and show not working - I even have show adult games and show Majong games (although I will soon be deleting all the Majong roms and filtering out the crappy adult games). For example, the Japanese version of Aliens is not showing up in the list and also, Streetfighter 3 (No CD is not showing up). They do all show up when I use MAMEWah though - so i definately have the correct Romset/names. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help guys, however I think this was just a silly mistake of mine; not all my flers copied over to my cab for some reason. Over teh weekend I DL all the marqees, cab pic and flyers etc; I will copy them over tonight and hopefully they'l work:-). I just now wish i could finds a skin/theme which would show; Screen shot, flyer, artwork, cab pic and marque when scrolling through the games selection. I am using teh default theme (wich is nice), however to view flyers etc I have to first click into the game and then "view flyer" - it's great being able to view the flyer in full screen, but would be great if Game Ex would show all the stuff I mentioned when scrolling through the games list (rather than just a screen shot of each game). Also, for some reason GameEx is not showing all my games in the games list (I will create a new topic for this).

Is it possible to have 2 versions of MAME setup with Game Ex? I just want two (or 3) MAME setups so that I can have one setup to run games in 800x600, one to run CPS1+2 games in 640x480 and maybee another set up to run in 640x480 with filtering for older games such as "Aliens". Thanks.

One thing I'm realy enjoying about GameEx at the mo' is being able to look at the flyers (although I would like it to show the flyers and a screen shot when scrolling through the game list, rather than having to click into (show flyer). The problem which I'm having is that not all my game flyers are registering with GameEx. For example, a lot of the games have the "show flyer" option, hower games which I definatelty have a flyer for (e.g "FinalFight") are not giving me the option to view the flyer which I have in the "flyers folder". Are there any commons reasons for this? I downloaded flyer packs and teh flyers haev worked previously. Many thanks in advacne for any help:-)

Hi Guys, I have managed to set MAME up with Game Ex and is working file, however I would like to set Game Ex up with a Super nintendo Emulator and also a Genesis/Megadrive emulator. I haven't got much experiance with command line based emus and so I wondered if anyone had a guide to setting up a couple of emulators with Game Ex. Settings which I would like; Supernintendo (Znes seems to be the emu of choice?); When I launch a game in Zsnes, I would like it to run in 640x480 with scanlines (full or 50%), keep aspect ratio (might change this to stretch at some point..) and "Force games to NTSC". Also, I would ofcourse like to be able to assign the SNES buttons to my Cabs control panel. When I launch Fusion I would also like to force NTSC (or U.S/JAP), run with scanlines and to fill the screen (I ran a GUI version of Fusion with scan line and it looked wasome on my cab; full screen and perfect picture:-). Any help would be appreciated, as I am gravitating towards sheling GameEx and using it to run all my emulators and hopefully a seperate jukebox programme.

I managed to instal GameEx last night - ran VERY slow at first (I could hear my pc maxing out as the fan was going mental). I then set GameEx to run in 640x480 and now it runs o.k. One problem I'm having at the momment is setting up my arcade controls to work with it correctly; is there not a way to map the keys via a promt system, rather than having to type into the config file?; My cab must be using controls which make the pc think my buttons etc are just a keyboard (hacked keyboard?) and I'm not sure which keys etc my controls represent. Also, I love being able to click "view flyer", however I'd realy like GameEx to show the games screenshot and also it's flyer or artwork at the same time. My cab is not hooked up to the net, so couldn't auto install anything on there (would be difficult to get it onto the net, as the ethernet port would real difficult to reach and also would have to intall all the Virgin media crap to connect. Would it work if I set GameEx up on my main pc, auto downloaded all the emulators etc and then just copied over the GameEx Folder to my mameCab pc?

Ah... you could be right; Whoever set it up (I am not in contact with that person) has definately used the instant sheller, as I can see the intall file on the HD. So they must've used intant sheller and somehow set it up to boot into Mamewah? Basicaly, when i turn the machine on, i see the GameEx screen and then MameWah appears. So if I want to use GameEx at start up (and stop using MameWah), do i need to first unistall Instant sheller, then install and set up GameEx and then Intall Instand sheller again and set it up to boot into GameEx?. Any recommendations for a good skin that shows Screenshots,Flyers,Box scans?; I'm not too fussed about Video Preview or anything. Does GameEx use up RAM/system resources when I am running emulators? or does it unload itself until I exit out of an emulator?; the pc in my cab is a Pentium 4 (2.8 Ghz i think) with 500 or so MB of RAM. Thanks for your help.

'afternoon all. At the moment, the cab I bought is set up with GameEx as a shell, which loads Mamewah straights away (which has only been set up with MAME); not sure why it was setup like this; a front end/menu loading a front end menu to load emulators.... I'd like to have GameEx as a shell, as I havn't got any room in the cab to tuck a way a keybord and mouse. Firstly, I'd like to stop Game Ex from loading straight into Mame Wah (surely this is using up unnessecarry system resources and RAM?). I would then like to set the cab up to run GameEx at start up and I would realy like a GameEx skin/menu where I could see and do the following; When browsing the MAME games I'd like to be able to see the games screenshot and also the games Flyer(s)poster artwork (showing or being able to select to see the cames marquee/side art/control panel would be a bonus or cool if I could choose to see all that stuff). When Running Megadrive/Genesis or Supernintendo games to be able to see screenshots and boxart pics. Ofcourse I'd also like to be able to be able to easily change between emulators and also run a Juke Box programme (or use the GameEx one). Could anyone recomend a skin which would fullfill these needs? and does anyone know how I couldget it set up from the current state which my cab is in? (i.e Gameex shelled running straight into MameWah). Many thanks in advance:-)

Please help! problems with Gameex as shell, running Mamewah
empireguitar replied to empireguitar's topic in General
Morning guys, I think you are right and I have a pc monitor (de-cased); wheni checked in Windows, the res. was set to 1280x or something and as I understand it arcade monitors can't display resolutions that high. I did also get suspicions when the monitor didn't have any natural scnalined effect. Anyway, I managed to get into windows and have a look around - the PC (Pentium 4 with about 500MB of RAM is just using onboard graphics - seems to be doing the trick though. I went in to the MAME config, set the res. to 800x600, scanlines and no filter; I got a great looking picture how I wanted it. Some CPS1+2 (Darkstalkers) looked better in 640x480 thouhg, so would like to be able to figure out how to switch resolutions easily. For now, I'm leaving the GameEx shell on, as it is cool that it boots into MAMEwah (the uninstaller is on the HD if I need it so...). I got the menu up in MAmewah by chaning the config, but it's still not right, as I couldn't actualy select from teh menu (had to use "1" key on my keyboard) - then i need to figure out how to switch to and from Emulators form the menu (to Snes,Model 2 ,Visual Pinmame etc). Thanks again for all your help guys. -
Please help! problems with Gameex as shell, running Mamewah
empireguitar replied to empireguitar's topic in General
Many thanks for your help; I will try it out tonight:-) I could probably use some help setting up GameEx from scratch so that I can use muliple emulators with (Final Burn,MAME,Model 2,Daphne (maybee) - would be nice to shell it from scrath and have all the emus/setting I want. I think I may use MAME GUI rather than a Dos based version, as it's easier to set up the video options; will that be possible with GameEx? (probably a silly question). I beleive my cab uses an arcade monitor; would my best MAME setting be 640x480 with Scanlines? (I don't beleive that my pc has the ARcade VGA card - although I will be able to check tonight when I finaly get into Explorer:-) Again, many thanks for your help:_) -
Good morning all; I would be VERY grateful for some help. I have been using Mame and other emus for years, however I have just baught a converted Mame cab and am having problems. I guess I should describe the machine spec (as far as I can tell; Dell Pentium 4 (500 or so MB of RAM) running Windows XP not sure which graphics card it's using (possibly using onbaord). 19" monitor (I think it's an arcade monitor, as it has no back/case to it). It has arcade controls hooked up and from what I can see to one of the (JPAC?) things into the USB; they are recognised at keyboard inputs. 2 joysticks with 6 buttons each, plus player 1+2 start buttons; plus another "A" button which exits games back to the mamewah game select screen and another "B" button that doesn't seem to do anything. (the pc also doesn't have a DVD drive - but has USB ports) It seems that the machine has been set up with GameEx as a shell; when I power the cab up, it breifly shows the Del screen, then shows the blue GameEx "loading please wait screen" for a few seconds - then it loads MAMEWah. The problem I no matter what I've tried, I cannot call up the MAMEwah menu during the game select screen (to adjust teh display settings or exit to windows etc) - I have tried pressing player 2 start and also holding the button in incase i has been "locked". I asked on the Mamwah baord and someone suggested that this could be something to do with Gameex. In addition, for the life of me I cannot get into widows so that I can brows the HD, ad games, more emulators etc. I even tried to start the pc in safe mode to try and stop it from loading GameEx, but this just left me with a black screen (showing safe mode in the corners) and no opportunity to browse teh Hard drive. The only way that I've been kind of able to browese the HD, was to connect a keyboard and mouse; hit Ctrl,Alt+Delete, call up the task manager and exit Mame/mamewah. This leaves me with a black screen. From there i pressed Ctrl, alt+delete again and clicked to start a new program, "browse..." and then I could see windows and browse the HD and folders. If somone could please give me some advice I would realy appreciate it. How can I stop the Pc from booting straight into gameEx? or idealy, how can i exit Mamewah or GameEx or call up menus? In addition, as I cannot call up the gameEx or Mamewah menus, the machine is not shuttin gdown windows each tim eproperly; which can't be good for the machine. Do I need to change the Gameex config or something?; any help would be appreciated. Maybee teh best thing would be to set it up to not use Gameex as a shell and then atleast I can test things out before possibly one day having it as a shell or something again, once I have all teh emulators I want on there with the configs set up to my taste.
