  1. I've only just noticed the Custom Lists option in mame settings. So I found I already had ini files (from cat32en, catveren, deluxe32en, genreven, folders, from whatever site they came from). none of them I really like. Since I'm using a 2 player cabinet, all I really "need" is a list of 2 player simultaneous 2 player alternate and what I'd "want" is perhaps some very general categories - fighting, music, puzzle, racing, etc - no more than 10. Just so there is a small but useful list on one page. I can probably figure out how to do that by making my own ini file with the categories I want based on the existing ini files, but not for the 2 player option. The nplayers.ini file looks different. Help? Cheers! edit: I worked it out. I was using the wrong nplayers.ini file. I merged one of the catergory ini files with an edited nplayers (to account for just 2 players, all 3 player & up games moved into either 2 player alt or sim), so now I get what I "need" and what I "want". scotts.txt
  2. I seem to be having a problem with the Gamecube database. I have it enabled, and my disc names match what is in the database (Alien Hominid, Ikaruga, Pac-Man World Rally for example), but no database info is displayed in GameEx even though it is present in the database. 3. I only today just setup Dolphin on my cabinet, and I didn't even realise that there are emulators that don't have command line loading options. I didn't know what a wrapper was. So this was perfect timing and seems to work a treat. I'm midway through getting every "working" Gamecube title, and so far it is all working a treat. I'm glad I bought the fastest PC I could afford when making the cabinet, which was not initially with emulators in mind. Now, where do I get the usual snaps, boxes, etc...
  4. Yes I've noticed, since I have a new fairly decent PC in my newly built 1st cabinet loading time is acceptable. However I plan on putting larger HDs and uncompressing them and other emu disc images once I'm completely out of space. @Lawrence, http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com/ does not load for me. Thanks for the PSX Renamer tip previously advised. I am rather pleased my Playstation setup in gameex looks and works as flawlessly as other rom based emulators.
  5. Since I had a few dozen games I wanted to do quickly, and that redump process seemed rather involved, I just used Alcohol 120% - make image, playstation profile, save to location, next disc repeat. I'd like to learn the "proper" way, but really they all work fine and I'm not contributing them to any project. 7zip, and works fine in GameEx. Even got the video snaps going from EmuMovies and boxes from somewhere. Made my own background in line with the other ones I use, based on the PSD template posted by... someone here whose name escapes me right now (thanks for the good work): EDIT: It's Palmore of course! Cheers!
  6. Ok no worries. I edited my database to remove the duplicate entries that had no info. Keep up the good work! edit: where do I get the PSX Renamer "dbase.ps1" file? It doesn't appear to be included in the app and is not on the website? edit2: found it
  7. EDIT/UPDATE (I worked out the problem before submitting this post): Okay the reason seems to be my database has duplicate entries. There are 7151 entries, most but not all are duplicated. Out of the duplicated ones, 1 of the 2 entries has blank fields for all the Publisher -> Description info. Generally the blank entries are first, which is why I only get 3 matches (those 3 games in bold have the non-blank info entry first in the table). Now, how do I fix this? How do I update that database, or find out if it is just my database, or a fresh install will have the same dupes? Cheers (Original post:) I have just set up ePSXe in GameEx, and it works fine (have not explored how multiple cds work yet), however I cannot get the GameEx database game info to show up for all games. I have ensured all the database options are enabled in the emu config, and have updated my game names to match what is in this file: \GameEx\DATA\EMULATORS\[Console] Sony Playstation.mdb The games are all ripped from my own Playstation CDs, as *.ccd *.img *.sub files, which are named the same as the .7z archive. If nothing came up for any of them, I could assume I have stuffed it completely and go from there, but out of the following the bold ones display fine, even though all names match those in the database file. Any ideas please? 8. So far so good! I will monitor each startup over the next week (I don't want to sit here and power cycle it over and over obviously). Cheers edit: Yep not one instance of starting minimized.
  9. I originally setup GameEx on a PC, and it started up fine, then I built a cabinet and put GameEx in the startup, and now it is starting minimized. I don't have a keyboard or mouse usually attached so this is awkward. How can I work out what is causing this? No other application starts at startup. edit: the text on the taskbar button says "GameEx|||0/60|" I don't know if that is relevant. 10. My first cabinet, using arcadecab.com #2 plan, fairly standard.
  11. Thanks heaps for that, I didn't know it existed.
  12. I am in this option and what I am seeing doesn't make any sense. I understand I should be looking at the scancodes.txt file to see what number to assign to what function. What's the difference between the keyboard and joystick section? I'm using an iPac4. What does "Button Number starting a 0" mean? Should that say "starting AT 0 (zero)"? The scancodes that are in there don't seem to match up to what is currently happening. My 1SW3 button is the back function (or backspace on the keyboard). But the custominput.ini file has in the keyboard section the no. 48 which is "B" and in the joystick section no. 1. I don't know what that means because it also has no.0 for select and the scancodes file starts at 1. I would like to understand how this works. Failing that I would like to be able to assign select to 1SW2 and not worry about it. scancodes.txt custominput.ini.txt
  13. I'm just finishing building a cabinet, and the Player 1 start button is not really close to the 1-6 buttons. I spend a lot of time navigating around, and reaching up to hit the 1UP button all the time will give me tennis elbow. So I would like to have the Player 1, Button 2 as the "select/play game" button. As button 1 (with joystick) is used for navigating, and button 3 is the back button, button 2 seems like should naturally rest between them to select/start a game. 1. I'm not sure if button 2 has any existing functions, 2. what is the easiest way to accomplish this. Cheers! (I'm open to other suggestions as well. My control panel is a 2 player, 8 button each setup. I use other emulators as well as mame.)
  14. I'm keen for a 1920*1080 theme - at the moment I'm using Palmores PSD file to make my own 1920*1080 backgrounds and enabling them in "Default - Deep Purple" but don't know if that's the best way to go about it..
  15. Have you changed your "GameExIsLoading" image? Just now I deleted my existing GameExIsLoading.png and renamed a new one to GameExIsLoading not realizing it was a JPG. The nag screen displayed and not my new image. Changed the extension from .jpg to .png and it worked. Which begs the question, is what displays an actual unregistered user nag screen (and if so why did I get it when I am registered), or is a custom GameExIsLoading image your very own nag screen? That doesn't make make sense, I guess what I am asking is there actually loading occurring during the time that image is displayed, or is it a forced pause? If I am a registered user, I obviously wouldn't want a forced pause (which I can't get rid of my removing the GameExIsLoading image, the nag screen image just shows instead); and if I'm not a registered user and it's not a forced pause i.e. loading is ocurring, then it's not really a nag screen is it. /end ramblings.... (doesn't really matter now I know I HAVE to have a "GameExIsLoading.png" image) edit: GameEx also crashes if videobak.png, jukeboxbak.png, picturesbak.png, radiobak.png etc do not exist, even if all these features are disabled
  16. Is it "Background mode"? The options from the setup wizard / advanced config are Display Background images Display Black Backround [sic] Use Game/Item Images as Background UPDATE: I believe I found it. "Advanced Graphics". AdvancedGFX=True I must have disabled this when installing initially on a slow test machine that only had onboard video. Didn't know it was related to custom backgrounds. This pleases me greatly! Cheers!
  17. I played around a bit more and I cannot get any custom emu backgrounds working. I installed the 9.93 version hoping perhaps that would reset whatever is wrong. I can see in my GameEx.ini file both of these two entries: [Emulator_5] CustomBackground=a2600.png EMU_5_custombackground=a2600.png a2600.png exists in the MEDIA directory of the theme. I've tried switching themes around (putting a2600.png in each ones MEDIA dir) but every theme just shows the standard "start" background on every page. Basically I have made a number of custom 1920x1080 widescreen backgrounds for my widescreen display for every page that I am trying to implement. I would use the theme editor but being new to these, without docs have no idea how it works unfortunately. Anymore pointers would be appreciated.
  18. Hi, Having a bit of trouble trying to implement custom backgrounds for emulators. I've got the backgrounds all ready and named appropriately. First I tried the setup wizard and using the custom background option. Then I edited the gameex.ini file. Then I made a copy of my current theme (deep purple I think) and enabled the separate backgrounds for emulators option and added them into the "mod..." entries. None of that seemed to do anything, so I tried a different theme that already had emu backgrounds (Vahalla?) and it didn't actually show any - it just used the standard "start" page background for all page backgrounds. Help! What can I do to reset the whole thing and start over.

  20. Quick question regarding updating.. do I just install over the top of an existing install? I don't need to save any files to keep my existing settings?
  21. 3 questions: 1. I made a few changes to the text/language settings, but they don't show up - e.g. changing "MAME" to "Arcade Games", "Emulated Games" to "Console & Computer Games" etc. Have exited, changed themes, even updated list, but still the old text labels display. Have checked gamex.ini and my changes are indeed saved there: StartMAME=Arcade Games StartApps=System Setup StartEMU=Console & Computer Games What am I doing wrong? How do I get the theme to reload the text/language settings from the gameex.ini? edit: found out had to change language from "English" to "Custom" in the text/language dropdown. 2. Along the same line of thought, how do I go about making a start menu item change what it shows e.g. MAME (which I want to read "Arcade") to display both MAME and LaserDisc games. Also to add a new start menu item e.g. "Computer Games". Ideally I want the first 3 items on my start menu to be Arcade Games (MAME and LaserDisc) Console Games (emulated console games e.g. atari2600) Computer Games (emulated computer system games e.g. c64) 3. I can't figure out how to add additional artwork to MAME, like you can with other emulators. I have various other screenshots (bosses, scores, gameover etc) that I want to add to the MAME gameinfo page, but can't find where to do it. In advanced config you can only do this to other emulators you setup. Cheers!
  22. Hi.. new (registered) user. To this.. born in 73 so this is right up my alley. Was wondering how to duplicate the effects of the "no clones" and "remove brackets" options that GameEx has for MAME, for other platforms. Specifically I've just setup Stella for Atari 2600, and just want the clean list i.e. just one of each game please. I'm assuming its easy enough once I have built a control panel to remap the keyboard? e.g. pressing player 1 button (which would be keyboard 1 in mame) will start game (F1 or whatever it is). Still trying to get my head around this whole scene but so far so good. Cheers
