I just recently booted up the old faithful (I've been rebuilding it the past few months) and upgraded to GameEX 14.82 (it was current prior, so no large version leap). I soon noticed all of my games for each system are listed together. I.e. when I goto the Nintendo Custom Menu, I have all the systems, NES, SNES, N64 etc. yet no matter what option I choose, they all now list all games. Before NES under Nintendo would just be of course NES games, same for SNES etc, but every option I choose loads every game for every Nintendo console. The same goes for the remaining options such as Sega etc. I am noticing a lot of the following in my logs. (attached) 21:14:25.1 7/23/2017: Not Restoring Emulator Database From Cache: 25 21:14:25.1 7/23/2017: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime. 21:14:25.1 7/23/2017: at System.DateTimeParse.ParseExactMultiple(String s, String[] formats, DateTimeFormatInfo dtfi, DateTimeStyles style) Thank you log.txt

[Theme] - WIP - Palmores Arcade 1080p - Should I release it?
Palmore replied to Palmore's topic in GameEx Media Projects
Yeah, I've been using Custom Menus for a while now. I've read thru his FAQ but I'm afraid there's no option for what I'm looking for. If I replace my logos in the media folder it will replace the system logos in my theme (Nintendo, Sega, etc) and wont "add" to the Image2 Object. I.e. Image1 is pulled from MEDIA\LOGOS\NES.png I was hoping Image2 could be a collage of NES/SNES/N64 etc games. While scanning things such as the Nintendo parent folder (custom menu, as shown around the 30second mark in my video). Kinda like it does for the actual Emulators themselves. Same would go for, Most played, Favorites, Last played (That one actually works), All Games. etc. From my digging and reading thus far, it appears this is not possible -
[Theme] - WIP - Palmores Arcade 1080p - Should I release it?
Palmore replied to Palmore's topic in GameEx Media Projects
Every background has an accompanying xxxbak.mp4 (as part of the menu graphics and system graphics are rendered into the animated background) What I was hoping for was I could place something like NES.mp4 into a snaps or media folder and use it as the video snap for the top menu item for Nintendo System, kinda like when you select N64 and it cycles thru random snaps from the N64 system. Also, since the xxxxbak.png/mp4 doesn't change when scrolling up and down on the menu (between Nintendo, Sony, Atari) systems, the snap for the over all collection wont change =( more i think of it that wouldn't be a viable option. -
[Theme] - WIP - Palmores Arcade 1080p - Should I release it?
Palmore replied to Palmore's topic in GameEx Media Projects
I do have 1 main question, how can I assign a video / snap to a menu item? i.e. per my video, Favorite Games, Game Systems, Nintendo Systems etc? Or is that possible? Thank you. -
Well, it's been AWHILE. I brushed the dust off my Arcade; bought a new LCD monitor, light guns, track ball bearings, PC, Lights, Marquee, Bezel and the list goes on. Only thing left the same is the Cab and Buttons lol. Man, I missed this group =) Any way, I've been working on a new Theme, still debating the font choice and some other small items. That and still working out some of the Menu items under the Mame section. (I do have questions around that, such as a module.ini style them file for Mame once I'm in the actual Mame list? I think its using either Bak.ini or startbak.ini or something, I'd like to use its own ini) That and adding highlight videos or snaps to the emulator group sections, in all fairness I haven't done any searching yet, so yeah I'll get on that lol Either way, here she is. I plan on uploading the PSD photoshop template and all files once complete. Sadly Youtube muted the audio for the entire video as I use an LTJ Bukem intro song =(

I made it around to whipping up CoinFX version 0.3.8b CoinFX 0.3.8b has been released. In this version... I've enabled relay keys, allowing CoinFX to listen for a coin key press, then send a different key press to MAME after the coin sounds play. This works great when using Stack Sounds. Check the chanelog for a full list of changes. Download CoinFX CoinFX Changelog (www.crackedconsole.com - Palmore) _____________________________________________________________ 0.3.8b Relay keys have been enabled, this allows you to set a key press to send when a coin noise is made This works great with Stack sounds. Relay keys also trigger the relay activity light next to each relay key under the "Keys" tab. Added configuration option for minimize (or not) coinfx on start. Changed default stack sound timer to 150ms

CoinFX 3.6b-repack is out FYI. I released it sometime ago, but I've been tied up at work with a data migration to our new SAN (yay EMC VMax) This new version can be grabbed from CoinFX Homepage CoinFX Changelog (www.crackedconsole.com - Palmore) 0.3.6b Bug fix release Corrected issue with Spawn MAME being checked and launching CoinFX and passing commands via CLI. This would cause CoinFX to launch 2 versions of MAME(or other emulator). 0.3.52b Bug fix release Corrected High CPU usage when running in Spawn mode and watching for MAME/Emulator to exit.
-
I've fixed a reported bu in 0.3.51b that would use 50% or more CPU while running CoinFX as a wrapper for MAME or other emulator. Please upgrade to 0.3.52b to correct this issue. Download

CoinFX is a small application that runs in the background of your arcade system and plays coin sound effects when you press your coin buttons. It's configurable, and maintains a log of each players coin counts. You can choose between 3 coin sounds, or load your own personal effects. Several other options are available in the options menu, CoinFX can also be launched via Command Line to function as a MAME wrapper. i.e. CoinFX.exe SF2 A few items have been added in this version, including the ability to stack 2 sound effects in a row, play an mp3 in the background (arcade ambiance), store coin counters in the registry so multiple copies of CoinFX can run from different folders yet still keep track of coin counts. A bug in 64bit versions of Windows as well as Vista and Windows 7 has been corrected. See the changelog for a full list of changes. CoinFX Changelog (www.crackedconsole.com - Palmore) 0.3.51b Bug fix release Issues with Windows 7 64bit. After launching the program, it keeps playing the coin sound and increasing the number of coins inserted - endlessly. 0.3.5b Added Coin chute sound effect Added stack sounds, this allows you to stack or play 2 coin effects together (such as Coin chute, then Incremental Coin effects) Changed Sounds tab UI Added option Spawn MAME when CoinFX starts Added -null command to CLI to spawn MAME exe from CLI with out any functions being passed from CoinFX to MAME Added Background MP3 player for Background music or Arcade Ambiance Added "Unified coin counter" to allow multiple copies of CoinFX to report coin counts to one location (registry)
-
Here is a sneak peak at the new version =) It also fixes a bug with capturing key presses on Windows 7 64bit
-
yes CoinFX will pass any commands given to it to MAME. I'm releasing version 0.3.51b Sunday, it allows to have multiple copies of CoinFX with 1 unified coin counter system, this way you can use CoinFX with MAME, Zinc, Model 2, Nebula etc, and still count coins for all arcade systems. Yet you can have different mapped coin keys. Theres a lot more added in 0.3.51b, Be sure to check back here for the download =)

CoinFX 0.3.0b isn't a major upgrade, but I decided to release what I've added and updated thus far, check the Changelog below for a list of updates. Download CoinFX 0.3.0b CoinFX is a small application that runs in the background of your arcade system and plays coin sound effects when you press your coin buttons. It's configurable, and maintains a log of each players coin counts. You can choose between 3 coin sounds, or load your own personal effects. Serveral other options are available in the options menu, CoinFX can also be luanched via Command Line to function as a MAME wrapper. i.e. CoinFX.exe SF2 CoinFX Changelog (www.crackedconsole.com - Palmore) 0.3.0b Complete rewrite of main code to clean up a few items Added online version upgrade check Added reset defaults option (returns all controls and options to defaults. does not effect coins) Increased default Timer tick from 150ms to 200ms Added coin indicator lights under the keys section that illuminate when a key press is detected Added demo 1up.wav custom sound (Thanks headkaze for your initial help and this audioclip Changed customsound and MAMEexe input boxes, they are still read only but you can now navigate the entire string

Side note, Brian (or anyone else) have any tips or link to doc for capturing MAME events? I've been troving Google, MAMEdev and a few other place but yet to find any information (at all!) on it. Thanks

I've set my MAME paths to MAME under Basic MAME Then under Advanced MAME I set use AdvancedMAME to on and set paths/exe to my CoinFX.exe application runitgame.bat @ECHO OFF CALL D:\ARCADE\DATA\SCRIPTS\SYSTEM\MAME.BAT D: CD "D:\Arcade\Data\apps\CoinFX" CoinFX.exe openice D:\Arcade\Data\scripts\System\unload.bat Now with Advanced MAME off and just using MAME here's what runitgame.bat looks like @ECHO OFF CALL D:\ARCADE\DATA\SCRIPTS\SYSTEM\MAME.BAT D: CD "D:\Arcade\Data\emus\MAME" mameuifx32.exe openice -rompath "D:\Arcade\Games\Roms\MAME" -mt -nowindow -joy -lightgun -dual_lightgun -mouse -offscreen_reload -skip_gameinfo -r 1024x768@80 -d3dversion 9 D:\Arcade\Data\scripts\System\unload.bat My goal is to allow calling a wrapper (in this case, coinfx.exe) from another directory while still keeping my MAME directory as the working directory i.e. @ECHO OFF CALL D:\ARCADE\DATA\SCRIPTS\SYSTEM\MAME.BAT D: CD "D:\Arcade\Data\emus\MAME" D:\Arcade\data\apps\coinfx\coinfx.exe openice -rompath "D:\Arcade\Games\Roms\MAME" -mt -nowindow -joy -lightgun -dual_lightgun -mouse -offscreen_reload -skip_gameinfo -r 1024x768@80 -d3dversion 9 D:\Arcade\Data\scripts\System\unload.bat If you put any paths in the mame exe section under basic settings it strips it out and reverts back to what it was last saved as.

Tom if you are out there =) (I know you are you support these forums like no other developer I've seen lol) Can I request a feature of GameEx I picked up on while using CoinFX? in MAME basic I want to set my MAME folder to D:\Arcade\Data\emus\MAME\ Yet I want to launch MAME via CoinFX (as a wrapper). The problem is, if I enter D:\Arcade\Data\apps\CoinFX\CoinFX.exe As the MAME exe it reverts back to Mame.exe I can get it to work just by puttin CoinFX in my MAME folder, but I want to use it for other Emus and games as well, so I'd rather keep it in it's own folder. Is it possible to update GameEX to allow for calling Mame.exe (or a wrapper) via path and file name in that field on the config editor? Thanks!
-
Thanks, it appears I've already caused a stir on MAMEWorlds forums, being on the edge of a bad tool with the coin counters. I wont touch those anymore, they will stay as is (unless someone gets upset more so). I just wont add anything functionality wise to them. Aside from that, does anyone else have ideas? I patched up a couple reported bugs and decided to release a new version prior to hitting the sack. CoinFX 0.2.6b I'd recommend running this version, it fixes loading MAME from a command line, as well as adds the option to check MAME exiting and shut itself off. This is great if you are using it as a wrapper. Full change log below. CoinFX Changelong (www.crackedconsole.com - Palmore) 0.2.6b Added option to monitor your MAME exe and close CoinFX when you exit MAME _____________________________________________________________ 0.2.5b Added save options for Incremental coin values, they now are saved to the INI file. Corrected slight display bug in windows XP (with coin logos, name and crackedconsole logo). Updated code to make ini file ALWAYS relative to the app, rather than current working directory. Corrected MAME wrapper function Updated INI version handler to import coin counts from previous application ini versions _____________________________________________________________ 0.2.2b Loading a custom wav file Choosing what sounds are played Randomizing or incremental sound effects Customizing coin keys Customizing key press listen timer Using as a MAME frontend/wrapper via command line Coin counters for Player1,2,3 and 4 as well as over all and money collected. Added INI configuration file _____________________________________________________________

0.2.2b is done CoinFX 0.2.2b I still don't have the MAME hooks working, but you can change they keys used for Coins in this version Enjoy =)
-
I use run also to load mine, its launched in a batch file that runs my pre game apps and configs. Then I use PSKill to kill the exe on run after. I've been finally working on updating the app, version 0.2b should be online in the next couple of weeks (alot going on at home and work) What I've added.... An options menu (right click in the tray icon) An option to hook into MAME and read it's coin keys (still working on this) Custom key definitions Custom sound effect (if you want to add your own coin or other sound) Ability to disable any of the 3 (and custom) sound effects Incremental or Randomized coin sound. Incremental plays an empty style sound up to 20 coins, then plays a half full sound till 40 coins then plays a full sound 40 and up. Currently this is only per session rather than over all coin count. Randomized of course plays any of the coins effects randomly at key press. Options to Load and Save a configuration file. MAME functions are still being built on my side, per Brian's request I'm thinking of setting it up as an optional MAME wrapper (via command line). No command line options it loads as always, toss a game name at it then it will start and load MAME in the background. Coin counters These will keep track of total coins for each player and over all, as well as calculate cash spent 25cent increments of course. More to come as I build it out. Ideas are welcome, while still keeping the over all app basic and functional.

I too have spent a GREAT deal of time doing the create theme, add snap, configure games and emulators lol It's a never ending bought, with well over 100 PC games, it's hard to keep track of what I still have to tweak controller wise, and I doubt I will ever have a full snap collection for all my roms! But it's a labor of love, what more can I say =)
-
The only issue with tracking amount of coins and also allowing it to disable or shut down MAME opens the age old can of worms of ppl using MAME to make money. I've seen before where ppl have coin trackers or other such functions and they get ripped apart by the community for that exact reason. I may not add those features =/

Currently no, I'll add that to the next release (among other options) good call out, thanks!
