I'm having a little Magic Engine trouble. Everytime I launch a certain games, i'm brought to the Magic Engine GUI rather than the actual game. After looking through the forums it looks like it may be an issue with apostrophies(sp?). So games like "Bonk's Adventrue" and "Bomberman '93" don't work, but other games like "Bloody Roar" work just fine. Apparently the two work arounds people have been using are to use DOS compatible file names or just going through their roms and taking out all of the apostorphies. I was wondering what people using Magic Engine here have been doing.
Wow, this looks really promising. I have been wanting to pause/freeze/load my games with the remote for quite some time, but with limited success. I'll rework my irremote.ini sometime this week and give this a shot.
Has anyone had any luck with setting up remote controls to close, freeze state, and unfreeze state in any emulators. Using the hauppauge remote and irremote.ini file I was able to get the remote to quit emulators just by mapping the green power button to the 'esc' key, but I was never able to get the freeze/unfreeze buttons to work, even though they were mapped to the proper keys.
Check the "user submitted config" thread above. It's a really good place to learn how to launch the emulators. Chances are if you're having a problem someone else has had it and fixed it or someone else is doing it a better way. Scott
Damn, that's the same one I have. I'll have to bust it out and try it again if you say yours works. I was using a standard N64 controller, but it might have just been a bad one.
I also only use GameEX for its great emulation support and none of the other features. So while any fancy mp3, video, etc. options wouldn't intrest me much, i'd still be happy to pay a resonable amont for solid emulator improvements. I'd say Free emulator stuff w/nag $10 for "emulator pro" with extra features and w/o nag $20 for "emulator pro plus" for all of the HTPC features. Keep up the good work, buddy.
Ok, I tried a few things. 1- I tried leaving sage in fullscreen mode and making a call to show desktop before I launched GameEX and the problem remained. 2- I set sage to minimize to taskbar on sleep and apparently it liked that. I can live with solution two, except I would really like a clean way to relaunch sage after GameEX exits. Is there anyway to get GameEX to run a generic cmd command when it shuts down? That way I could set up a batch file to wake Sage up when GameEX quits.
As long as this thread is talking about organization, I'd love to have a long list of games put into submenu's by letter. i.e. instead of having 800 NES games in a list have the first view be : (0-9), a, b, c, d... and then when you pick a letter just display the games that start with that letter. This way no game would ever be much more than 5 clicks (up/down or pgup/pgdn) away.
Right on the money. I don't think GameEX likes that Sage is running in fullscreen mode behind it. I should be able to handle this from the Sage side, maybe minimize on launch or something.
Yeah, it's pretty much every emulator. VirtualNES, VirtualBoy Advance, and Gens all do the same thing. I've only tried running them in fullscreen up until now. Tommorow i'll mess with the emulator configs what I can find.
Oh, it's not that big of a deal. When it quits out I can get back to Sage with just my remote so I don't even need to get off the couch to fix things. I'm playing around with my settings to see if I can't just change some graphical options in GameEX or my emulators to fix things. I'll post if I figure something out.
I'm having a little problem when I quit emulators and return to GameEX. I hit esc to quit the emulator, emulator quits and it goes to desktop for five seconds, and then GameEX starts up again, but the screen is completely messed up. Then a little later GameEX quits to the logfile and I get the "20 exceptions in a row" error. Anyone else had the same problems?
I downloaded regular mame 94b and switched emulator path with easy config, then I loaded GameEX and everything worked fine. I then switched back to mame32 just to make sure the problem was still there, and now mame32 is working fine also. I tried working backwards to see if I could duplicate the issue again but I couldn't. This one is prolly just my fault. Here is the highlight reel from my log file anyway. I'm gonna keep trying to replicate the problem to see if it was a just a setup issue. short_log.txt
wow, that was crazy fast, thought i'd atleast have time to fix my mistake before you noticed. I'm working on sorting out why it's not attaching. I'll also try a different version of MAME while i'm at it. I'm on mame32 94 currently.
Hey Tom, I'm having the same problem as the people above. Mine is occuring when I open a MAME game. The game will run fine, but i'll see the log file when I exit the game. I downloaded the debug version you posted so here is my log file and config file for ya. This is really great software. I appreciate your time and effort, let me know if you want me to do any additional testing. Thanks, Scott
