Actually, I just tried to play Arkanoid and the resolution is coming up wrong and the spinner no longer works. I see what you guys are saying about MAMEui32. There really can't be a logical reason why there are different problems with the exact same setup, can there? I will try and switch to Mame this weekend and see if that fixes it. I am scared of CLRMame because I have never used it. What does it do the ROM files to make them compatible with different versions of MAME? Lastly, should I transition to the newest version of Mame or should i try and figure out what version my ROMS are and create MAME for the rom files and forget about CLRMame?

For some reason, when I select a playlist in Gameex, it just returns to the screen with all of my music. My playlists work fine directly in Windows Media Player. Every other function of the jukebox seems to work well, but for some reason it refuses to let me work playlists. I had this issue months ago and just downloaded the new version of gameex - still no worky. I have tried to go backwards and install old versions of WMP, I have reconstructed the database in WMP, but for some reason, I get no love with playlists. Is there some form of playlist that Gameex can't read? I don't want my friends to hear my softer side when we are gaming, so I really don't want to put it on random over my whole collection!!!

Ok, all fixed, but a mystery remains.... I switched to MAME from Mameui32. Then when I only got ~300 roms, I switched back to Mameui. Well, now for some reason the stretching works. I am not complaining because this closes out my trouble ticket The question is though, how did this happen? Nothing changed since I only changed the filename in gameex settings and then changed it right back - same exact file... I think based on everyones advice I will switch to Mame from mameui32. how do I check which ROMset I have and if there is a mamefile mame.exe, how do I see what version that is? I assume clrmamepro is just simply clrmame.com. Thanks again guys for all of the help. I truly appreciate all of the help.

Ok, so I put the mame.exe file in the same location as mameui32.exe. I went to the mame options and changed to mame. Then when gameex came back on, I went to my favorites to try and it said that I needed to update game list. I let it update and now all of my games are gone except for 300 of them. What could have happened? The 300 games do work FYI. I guess I can change her back, but I am not sure why it wouldn't work with mame.exe?

Sorry for the late response. I had to jet off to NYC for work. Anyway, so the options in Gameex won't help according to Bkenobi. Can someone educate me how gameex interfaces with MAME or MAME32? So when I run MAME32 and it stretches, the command line to open passes to the game information that it needs to stretch. Could it be that Gameex is incorrectly passing that parameter to the file? I just don't see how switching to MAME could fix it unless I understand how it actually works. I am willing to give it a shot, just I would then had to recompile MAME do the hiscore.diff, etc. If I knew it would work, of course I would give it a shot, but you know the drill, then something else won't work Thanks for the responses!

Ahhh, that makes sense. I just was monkeying around in the gameex display settings page and I saw the stretchto256, etc. I probably should know this, but what file do I need to alter in order to remove the gameex display settings and leave it all up to MAME? I'd like to make a copy of that file first before I start hacking away. Thanks ben, er... bubba kenobi...

I really don't think so... Does anyone know what could cause Gameex to disallow the hardware stretch feature in mame?
-
I did more testing to try and figure out the problem. 1. Searched for other joust.ini files. None on my machine. 2. Modified the .ini file to flip the game and everything else. The image flipped on the game, but still no hardware stretching. 3. Changed global settings to use hardware stretching - Nothing... Why would this work in Mame and then not in gameex? Is there something in gameex's settings somewhere that is precluding a game to run stretched? This is a bummer as I really want to stretch all of the gun games and joust to make them work better....
-
I thought that, but when I go into MAME and change the resolution, it is changed in gameex. But when I do the hardware stretching, it works in MameUI, but not in gameex. It is too wierd, but I am certain that the same ini file is being used by both...
-
That is great! Thanks for creating this and thanks for the heads up!
-
I setup through Mame32 to stretch using directdraw for Joust since it is annoying to have a invisible cieling at the top of the game. It works beautifully in Mame32, but it doesn't work for some reason when I run it through Gameex. Any ideas?

I think it would be cool to turn my MAME machine into a photobooth at some parties... It is fun to later create a compilation of all of the pics, set it to music and then e-mail it to everyone that was there. Does anyone know of a windows program that I could run through gameex and then map a key (button) to actually take the pictures so that anyone can do it easily?

When I go to www.gameex.net, I get an error and I have all day... My internet is working fine and I haven't had any problems. I got the sound to work for movies! hooray. FFDSHOW was the solution after messing with it, thanks Tom.
-
Thanks Tom!!! I have installed the FFDSHOW from the gameex site. After it is installed, the sound still does not work, although I just left the default settings. Are there any special settings in FFDSHOW or gameex that I need to change? I do have it set to use WMP mode. The playlists work fine in WMP, but in gameex, playlists don't work. Has anyone been successful in using playlists with recent gameex builds? I am using WMP11. Thanks again guys for all of the help and Tom, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Dean

Thanks for the fast reply Brian! I did have a system crash and then rebuilt everything. Then when things didn't work, I got a new computer and rebuilt. I have a full XP install. I am running the most recent version of gameex. I have windows Media Player 11 and honestech DVD player. I am very familiar with the config screen as I have been there and tested everything. 1. I am using Honestech DVD player. I would think this just isn't supported by Gameex except that before the crash, I had it working in gameex and it currently works fine outside of gameex. in gameex now, the video looks great but with no sound. 2. I do have the setup to use WMP11 as the jukebox player and it works fine in gameex except that when I click on playlists, it shows my playlists (that work fine in WMP11 by itself), but when I select a playlist, gameex thinks for a few seconds and then returns me to my entire library as if it encounters some sort of error. Since both of these work outside of gameex fine and they used to work just fine, I just think I need to change some setting or add something that I am missing. 3. I will check for this patch, this is great info - Thanks! SEE ATTACHED TEXT FILE WHICH IS MY GAMEEX.INI FILE GameEx.txt

I have several issues with Gameex where I am trying to figure out why something isn't working. I have asked and have not recieved any responses, which either means everyone is busy or doesn't know that answer. Obviously, there isn't tech support and Tom can't answer everyones question on the board or he wouldn't have time to create new functionality and be constantly improving this app. I want to try and figure the answers out for myself, so here is a question. Is there some sort of document that explains exactly how gameex works? I love this application, however, I have several issues that I have no idea how to even begin troubleshooting. 1. I have been told that video codecs control video, but what controls sound for videos/DVD. 2. I have read that gameex uses windows media player for the jukebox, but does it treat playlists differently? 3. Where does gameex pull information on what resolution to use for a game and is there an easy way to change resolutions? I am really not trying to be a pain, but if there was some sort of blueprint for how things work, it might be worth a read so that I can try and figure out myself things to try and troubleshoot. Thanks!

I grabbed another computer from the office and did a fresh install of Windows XP, Windows media player 11, gameex, and created a playlist after adding all songs to WMP. Still playlists do not work. Is this a bug? When I click on the playlist which only contains 5 songs, gameex thinks for a few seconds and then goes back to the complete library. Anyone have similar issues?
-
Yup. The jukebox works fine with WMP, but when I select playlists, it just thinks for a few seconds and then goes right back to the entire library. About 1 month ago all of this stuff worked and then I had a system crash and after rebuilding, the playlists and DVD audio just won't work. Thanks for the suggestion though!
-
I am guessing this is what you meant, er, uh Brian Kenobi? Brent Kenobi? (I get the joke now) [MediaPlayer] Enabled=True AudioMode=0 I switched it to 1 and still no sound with DVD's. I really believe that it might be something with my computer settings or something I am missing, that is why I just want to know what the process is by which Gameex produces sound. Given that DVD's play fine under windows in media player and in honestech straight up, there must be something Gameex is looking for that is not there or it is looking in the wrong place. Like I said, this did work at one point and I haven't monkey with my gameex settings, so it really shouldn't be the INI file. Is there a document that decribes exactly how Gameex interfaces with other apps? I can't get playlists to work in Gameex either, however, they work fine in windows media player 11. I am stumped. Onxe I have these 2 things figured out, I am going to ghost my HD in case of failure and never change a thing.
-
Thanks, but the video codecs are working fine on my machine. It is the sound that is not working. I am sure I must just be missing the audio codecs that gameex requires, but I am not sure what that is or where I would need to find it. Any ideas on the sound?
-
That will be a cool feature. How do videos play through gameex now? I am trying to diagnose why my video plays but I have no sound through Gameex, however, I am not sure how to troubleshoot. It seems that I have to mention the video codecs in the settings, but how does gameex do the sound for vids now? The crazy thing about this is that it has worked in the past, but for some reason it works no longer. Thanks Tom, I love your software!!!

Is there a way to get VLC to work to play DVD's through Gameex? I do not want to spend $50 to play DVD's through Gameex. I bought Honestech DVD player but it is not working (has no sound when playing DVD's). Is there a way to get windows media player to be the default player? What is the most inexpensive way to get Gameex to play DVD's or video files?
-
Playlists don't seem to work anymore. They work fine in windows media player, but when I select playlist/more in gameex, it shows me my platlist but when I select one, it does not load it, instead it takes me back to my entire library. Is this a bug in a recent version? If not a bug in gameex, how do I rebuild my media player database? I guess that is the only other thing it could be.
