That I have not. Usually the case is some undetermined amount of time in attract mode for the controls to "gimp". It just happened that I was testing the keyboard and then loaded GameEx and boom. I will see what I can find in the event viewer.
-
I have determined that it is triggered by GameEx. Using an online keyboard tester from a link at XArcade all the keys register correctly. The second I bootup GameEx the keyboard mapping switches to what I wrote above. I have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete shutdown GameEx, replug the USB, then run GameEx for it to work correctly. I am good with computers but this has me so baffled.

Thanks for the link Draco1962. I thought I had it figured out as I found a JoyStick-to-Mouse app in my startup folder and thought that might be interfering so I got rid of that. Seemed to be working so I also did all my Win7 updates for the machine loaded GameEx and nope. A freshly rebooted machine and the controls are gimped. Re-plugging the USB is the only solution. Works instantly. When it goes into gimp mode every button/joystick movement = "ENTER", with the exception of the One Player button="2", and the very bottom left button for player 1 and 2 = "Z"

I gave PS/2 a quick go and got no response. Not sure why and I haven't had time to trouble shoot yet (maybe disabled in BIOS and I don't want to jump to conclusions). Is there anything special to using PS/2 with X-Arcade? I remember using PS/2 at one point but it has been quite a few years ago and don't recall if it required certain settings. On a side note if I do a Windows re-install is there a link to a FAQ or some such that walks you through on what to keep for a GameEx reinstall so I can make it quick and not loose my settings? Thanks for any help.

Hi Draco1962. Yes I use usb. It does have the PS/2 as well, so maybe I'll give it a go. I never thought of that. The only way to make it work when it gimps is to unplug then re-plug the usb. I tried different ports once and thought I had fixed it, but it came back. I wonder about deleting then re-installing usb in DiviceManager? I did the unplug-plug yesterday. So it has been 24hrs of working correctly.

A little bit of an update. When things go wonky every joystick move and every button = select/enter. Same function regardless of what I move or press. So if I am on GameEx launch screen any movement or button selects the first catagory, then the first game, then enters that game. At which point I am stuck and have to task-manager/end program. Exiting GameEx, rebooting will make no change. I have to exit GameEx then physically unplug the usb XArcade, then relaunch GameEx. Then it will work. For a while. I was thinking of a reinstall of Win7, but the PC is only used for GameEx exclusively so I am not sure how it would have gotten corrupted. I'll see if anyone has a solution before I go ahead with that.

Having some issues. Popped up about 3-4 months ago. Everything worked perfectly for a long time. Then suddenly while arcade had been in demo/attract? mode the control's wouldn't react or their mapping would be off, essentially performing random functions that are not programed. I have experimented with reboots, unplugging and re-plugging USB's with mixed results. Bottom line is if I leave the cabinet running it seems to scramble the controls or cause them to become non responsive. I am using XArcade which has never been a issue in these regards, even in the non paid vr.. Now I leave it in demo for a bit and the controls are screwed. Often a reboot isn't able to fix it. I have to un-plug and re-plug the USB. As well I used to be able to remotely log in and access TASKMANAGER and could end GameEX but now it goes in a loop. Select TASKMANGER goes to a window that quickly disappears before GameEx can be selected to shut-down. This again is a new behavior as I used to always shut down GameEx every-time I needed. Not anymore. Any help to my current situation would be appreciated. If needed let me know what file you need me to upload.

Hi Draco1962. I appear to have jumped to a conclusion prematurely. It is Wizard of War that I encountered this issue with. I rarely play two player simultaneous games as I mentioned, so I assumed it was a standard control issue. After testing others such as Joust, Silkworm and various fighting games, it appears to be a Wizard of War only problem game at this point. I assume it is a glitch with that game and will report if I do discover more. Thanks log.txt

GameEx Arcade Edition 15.57 Hi there.I am having an issue in two player games in that the controls are switched. The user on the left side of the cabinet will be controlling the right side character and the right side cabinet user the left. Single player or two player alternate are fine. I updated to the latest version and the issue persists. I did not have this issue previously and am not sure when it started as I rarely play any games that are two player simultaneous. I am using an ArcadeX control unit. I imagine there is a possibility of accidentally hitting some keyboard combination that would flip this? MAME is the only emulator I use under GameEx. Thanks for any help GameEx.ini

Draco1962 you are the MAN! Renamed it to match and it works. So odd that I have never had to do this before. Thanks for everyone's help and the updates. Now onto PinballX! Hope that goes a little smoother LOL

Hi there Draco1962. Yes I have an Xarcade.cfg in my MAME directory. I tested and ran MAME before I added GameEx Arcade. I simply select XArcade from the controller option. As far as CORE INPUT OPTIONS I don't know what that is. X-Arcade has always worked on every version of GameEx Arcade I have tried. It also works with MAME once I select it. The X-Arcade works in GameEX Arcade with the "-ctrlr X-Arcade" added to MAME settings. The sticks and buttons all work correctly, EXCEPT somehow it is preventing a launch of a ROM. The controller is correctly mapped as even after the failed ROM launch I can back into the menu screen using the escape button sequence and the controller continues to work as normal.
-
Hi RedDog. Removed the space and there is some minor change. Now when launching it shows brief moments such as Initializing, Loading etc... like normal when a ROM is loading but then the simple black blank screen as before. This time it doesn't return to the Play Game Now screen. Right flipper two player buttons will get me out. Okay on exit I get this message "Fatal error. Could not load controller file X-Arcade.cfg" Interesting as I have always used this controller through various versions of GameEx arcade. Never had any issues. As of right now it controls the front end menus just fine. Even allows me to back out of the crash. It also works just fine with my MAME install outside of GameEx. I set it up and tested MAME before adding GameEx. Removed the "-ctrlr X-Arcade" and the ROMs load.

Okay I'm back running. I have DL'ed and installed 15.5. GameEx Arcade now runs which is a good step. But of course with me everything can't go that smooth LOL. Issue is when I select a game to play it will not launch. Simply goes to a blank screen for 10 seconds then a return to the Play This Game screen. As always any help is appreciated. Nice to meet you tthurman. Very old Radeon 4830, so no special shit. Basic driver as that is all offered. Thanks for the advice. I will see what I can do with it. Lots of good points to follow. All my drives are corrupt and I'm working on it. I hit a total low and am rebuilding. Nice of you to reach out.
-
My apologies. A little bit of frustration creeping in after having every drive corrupt.
-
Any form of copy protection that may relate to my circumstances? This is all quite bizarre, including the complete lack of dialog from what I consider basic questions.

Good, yet bizarre news, I seemed to have had a failing SSD (failed?) I have not done much investigation yet other then a fresh install on Win7 and GameEx Arcade. But it launches so it is a win. Quite the oddest thing I have ever seen in a while. No error messages etc... Only on this last build did I ever have a difference in complications from others. Anyways up-wards and on-wards! I haven't tested anything yet, but I thought it important to update the community as to my status. GameEx Arcade launching.

I have done multiple times Tom. There is nothing obvious in the Task Manager of anything GameEx related. It has been two(?) versions in a row I have had this issue of non launching GameEx. Nothing happens not even a flicker. GameEx_Background.exe used to work on the last build but now it will launch GameEx but no ROMs. That is why I do full uninstall, re-install. But I feel there might be issues remaining even after a full uninstall. This is why previously I had asked about .reg entries that I could delete to insure clean installs. I might just reinstall Win7 tonight. It is a dedicated cab so it shouldn't need to be, but you never know. It sounds like I am the only one having this issue so I might as well do so. Then I can make sure, or not, if it is a problem on my end.
-
Hi Draco1962. I did fresh installs because of the continuing problems I am having, as to isolate each build. Yes loosing my configuration setting each time sucks! I am quite familiar with how to launch GameEx. Are you providing some insight to the situation that I'm not understanding? Any help is welcome. I currently have a non functioning GameEx Arcade. GameEx_Background.exe will launch into GameEx front-end but fails to launch ROMs. As stated previously, GameEx.exe will not launch at all. I have done multiple re-installs. Thanks for reminding me about adding log/config files. It was fast and furious for a bit and that got missed. If I could request some old versions to try. I have never had this issue in the past. My near two year old cabinet worked flawlessly with GameEx demo. Now that I have upgraded, not so much. GameEx.ini log.txt
-
I should note that I always FULLY uninstall old versions before installing the latest build. I am always concerned that there might be some errors from not doing so. Clean installs every time.
-
Turning off run in background had no effect. GameEx.exe will not launch. GameEx_Background.exe continues to launch without issue. I'll have to ask this again, what is the difference between the two and any negatives to me running GameEx_Background.exe?
-
GameEx.exe 15.40 will not launch. GameEx_Background.exe will. I don't know what the difference is. As far as the Attract mode goes, it appears to be fixed and working. It does jump to the desktop between games but I think there is a setting for that.
