  1. Yeah, I can't speak for all the Logitech controllers. I actually also have one of the wireless Logitech controllers that's made for the PS3 (but also works on PC) and don't like it as much. It works as well as the Cordless Rumblepad 2, but is much lighter and its construction and the buttons and sticks feel much cheaper than the Rumblepad 2, even though they cost about the same. This one right here is the one I'd recommend. When I just had the 360 controller I even had to start a thread just like this because I disliked its power-saving function so much.
  2. I would advise strongly against the Xbox 360 wireless controller. I have one and found that it didn't work well with Gameex because of its automatic timeout when you're not using it. If it turns off while Gameex is still on, when you turn it back on Gameex won't respond to up-down-left-right navigation. The Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 is better in every way. It's cheaper, very solid, has better battery life (it lasts for weeks even with heavy use, while I found the 360 controller to drain its batteries in a matter of days), is able to switch back and forth between d-pad or analog stick mode (or use both at the same time for things like N64 emulators), and Gameex doesn't lose focus when it switches itself off. You also don't have to worry about accidentally hitting that stupid sync button on the 360 controller and getting that battery status popup that sometimes messes things up. Plus the D-pad on the 360 controller is really stiff and awkward, while the Logitech has that great PS2 style which is just about the best shape ever made, in my opinion.
  3. I've also recently had the exact same problem you describe with the screensaver when I try to get it to include videos. If I disable the "play videos too" or "also play videos" (forget the exact wording) option and just use MAME it works fine. Incidentally all the videos in the particular folder I pointed the screensaver at work fine if I play them the normal way through GameEx.
  4. I hate to say it, but it makes me sad to see another update notice and think "Ooh new update! I wonder what this one fixes?", only to realize "Oh, still no roms in folders/insert-widely-requested-feature here support, but boy howdy, it works on Windows ME now!" Obviously, my favorite request should come first.
  5. Are the roms in .7z format? If so, I believe that Project64 on its own will open them, but the unregistered/free version of GameEx will not. I think I also had this problem before I registered, and my solution was to just unzip all the files.

    Mame Question

Sorry for the harsh tone (I post a lot on Something Awful if that means anything), I just thought you gave a more than reasonable solution (more reasonable than, say, putting 12,000 videos in one folder) that people obviously worked quite hard to create and this person just wanted someone to do everything for him. If someone told me I could compile GameEx from source in a way that fixed my problem that you mentioned, I'd definitely find the "extra time".

    Mame Question

    Edit: I'm not nice.
  8. I also really enjoy being able to map the d-pad and analog sticks differently for various emulators (i.e. the d-pad and analog sticks still function in some capacity no matter what the Mode setting) without having to touch the Mode button, but then use the Mode button later to switch to the analog stick or back to the d-pad depending on the game. It's really a perfect gamepad for emulation purposes. Use of GameEx by persons other than myself around the house has increased 300% since I got it. Similar pc-only gamepads I'd had in the past completely disabled either the d-pad or analog sticks depending on the Mode toggle.
  9. Thank you. I bought a Logitech cordless rumble pad 2 as you suggested. It performs flawlessly!
  10. If the screensaver kicks in -- whether or not the controller is on or off at the time -- if you turn the controller back on while the screensaver is running you can usually get it to respond. I was just looking for a more consistent, reliable method. Does everyone here use wired controllers, or just put up with the hassle of wireless? Surely someone must know of a wireless controller that works all the time.
  11. Currently I use a wireless Xbox 360 controller with GameEx. It works great when it works -- except the mediocre d-pad which doesn't really bother me, but anyway -- but its power saving functions don't cooperate with GameEx. Like many wireless pads, if you don't touch it for a while, it turns itself off. The problem is that if it does this while you're in the menu portions of GameEx, you have to either turn it back on and then restart the program, launch a game or video using a different controller/the mouse and then exit it back to the menu, or wait for the screensaver to kick in and do the same. Is there a wireless gamepad that doesn't have this problem? It's very annoying not to just be able to set the controller down, walk away, and then pick it up and do what you want later. It's also frustrating to explain to my wife or roommate things like "Look it's awesome but if you come in and the controller is off first you gotta sync it back up and then wait for the screensaver to kick in or restart the program.." at which point their eyes glaze over and they never touch the thing again. Recommendations?
  12. Really, there was a guy who made an impressive video of Kingdom Hearts 2's opening FMV on their forum, and his specs were like I tried it on my PC with a P4 3.0 ghz (non-dual core), 2gb of RAM, nvidia 8600 gt system and the system bios intro alone brought it to its knees. So you really need just about the best, newest PC you can buy right now to run this thing. Definitely dual core and top-of-the-line graphics card sort of thing. Still, very impressive work, and the technological curve will catch up. I remember when you had to have a bleeding edge PC to run Nintendo 64 emulators...
  13. Awesome! Now to find a computer that can run it at a playable speed... Ah, here we go:
  14. I really love all the features in GameEx (videos, dat support, jukebox, etc). However, I've been banging my head against the wall trying to get NullDC to work, even with the various loaders floating around on the forums here. But tonight I made a relatively simple discovery. I apologize if it's obvious and been discussed before, but it's the only thing that worked for me, so I thought I'd share. The other threads I've found that mention this line in the NullDC config do so in conjunction with scripts or loaders, and still have problems with exiting. At least on my machine with this config, the exit routine also works perfectly. First, I'm using NullDC 1.6 and Daemon Tools 4.10. - Setup Daemon Tools to create a virtual drive, note the drive letter for the new drive, and turn all options off. - Open NullDC outside of GameEx and configure it the way you want -- making sure to configure the controls, enable fullscreen in NullPVR, and select the GDRom plugin and set it to the drive letter that Daemon Tools creates. - In the main NullDC file folder, there should be a file called nullDC.cfg. AFTER you've configured NullDC completely, open this file in Notepad and change the option Emulator.AutoStart=0 to Emulator.AutoStart=1 - Setup the emulator in GameEx to match this, editing your paths of course to match where you store your roms and emulators. [Emulator_] Enabled=True StartPageName=Sega Dreamcast TitleText=Sega Dreamcast StartPageLogo=Dreamcast RomFilter=*.b5t;*.bin;*.bwt;*.ccd;*.cdi;*.iso;*.mds;*.nrg;*.pdi RomsInFolders=False ROMPath=C:\Emulation\ROMS\Dreamcast SnapPath= TitlePath= BoxPath= CartPath= WorkingPath=C:\Emulation\nulldc_100b1_6 MapKeys=True WaitBeforeKeys= SendKeys= ReplaceDash=False ReplaceUnder=True Capitals=False RemoveBrackets=True ShowDesktop=False Debug=False MapFile= AlsoLaunch= Command=nullDC_100b1_6.exe OLDatZip= LaunchBefore=""C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exe" -mount 0,"[RomPath]\[RomFile]"" LaunchAfter="C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exe" -unmount 0 configFile=[Mapping On] Exit nullDC (Process Close) ExcludedFiles= CustomBackground= PlayMusic= PCGame= DATABASE= GamesIn7Zips=False ManualPath= PlayInScreenSaver=False ShowMostPlayed=False RandomMostPlayed=True CDCheck=False CDCheckFile= lastgame= DontShowInfo= PlaySelectionMusic= SelectionMusicFolder= Anyway, your mileage may vary, but this works perfectly for me.
