  1. Hi all, I've been working on setting up JNES with GameEx the past couple days and I keep questioning the way I have everything configured. I'm using the no-intro ROM sets, and while some ROM sets seem easier to work with, others (like the NES one) have a lot of repeats, revisions, etc. What I had decided to do was simply go with a USA set, which I got pretty easily by taking every file with (USA) in the filename, deleting everything else, and manually sifting through the list to delete duplicates and revisions. This cut out about 70% of the ROMs from the no-intro set, and it looks pretty clean. However, I feel going this route will lead me to miss out on some good games--European releases, as well as Japanese releases that don't really require an understanding on the Japanese language (there seem to be a fair bit of those on older consoles, after all.) Looking through the advanced emulator settings, I noticed the merge sets option and tried it out. I think using this option is kind of the best of both worlds--it helps keep the game list clean while still maintaining the integrity of the ROM set. However, I am wondering if there is a way to account for games from different regions that might have the same name. Examples of this are Little Samson (US) and Seirei Densetsu Lickle (Japan), Hudson's Adventure Island (US) and Adventure Island Classic (Europe), and so on. It would be a lot of work to clean that up if there isn't a way to automate it, so if there isn't I will probably just stick with the clean USA set. An alternative option I was considering was to set JNES up multiple times pointing to different ROM paths, where one would point to the USA set and the other to an International' set that basically contains Japan/Europe releases. I could use this in tandem with Merge Sets to avoid having to clean up multiple versions/revision and that would enable me to have a clean set to use in most instances while still maintaining access to games from other regions. Any advice on these items would be appreciated.
  2. Thanks very much. I'll play around with this this evening. I expect I'll probably have more questions but I'll try to work through items on my own first. I look forward to getting everything set up and helping others as well.
  3. Hi all, New to GameEx and loving it so far. I'm still working on the initial front end setup, and it's coming along fairly well, though I did have a couple questions. I searched the forums and didn't see answers to these, but my apologies if I'm just missing them. 1. Upon exiting emulators, it takes around 2 seconds to reload GameEx, and in that time my desktop is visible. Is there a way to 'hide' the desktop in this case? This is not emulator specific. I'm not wanting to hide the OS in general as I don't have a dedicated machine at the moment, but it would give it a more seamless look if that could be avoided. 2. Is there a way to overlay a game's title song when the game is selected, along with the video? I like the idea of having the videos, but would like to set it up to play the video (without the sound) and instead play the title theme from the game, in cases where that theme is available. 3. Is there a way to display the total playtime in a game? I noticed that it displays how many times the game was played, but it would be nice to have that play time count. Thanks in advance and I apologize if these are dumb/silly questions.
