  1. Sweet!!! This'll be a big help. I've been wanting to edit my MDB categories with something a bit easier to use (as I pretty much ignore them atm as useless)... Everyone's going to have their own taste I suppose about what constitutes an "RPG" or "Action" game, but ATM, with all the multi-lables (ie. Action- Adventure, Action-RPG) they just end up seperating games that pretty much go together, such as Zelda , and Zelda 2. Anyway, Good work! Hey just to throw it your way, I had this vision last night of the ultimate tool for my MDB editing. It was a bit like your FuzzyMatch and MDBedit combo, but put together with snap shots. It was 3 columns, algined left to right. The first being my rom list, the second being my snapshot folder (set to thumbnails), and the third being a category box that was blank. Then I could just go down the list and pop in a category for each game based on the snapshot (which can usually tell you what sort they are). Even better would be programable macro keys to speed things up. Assigning say "RPG" to key 1, and "SPORTS" to key 2, etc... Then just head down the list, take a look at the snap, and hit a corrosponding number key to tag it under whatever category I see fit. Then Export this info to the MDB. but alas I have no programing skillz what-so-ever. Anyway, keep up the good work Stu, and if I ever get good enough at this stuff to pitch in, I would love to help the cause. -SpyDIRmaN
  2. Yeah I've tried everything. I use the Internal ISO plugin for just about everything off the HD. As for my trouble games (Tomb Raider 1, 2 & Megaman Legends 2) the built in CD plugin works fine as long as the disks are mounted or I'm playing from the CD. I think it has something to do with the protections on the disk that the standard ISO plugin just doesn't get right. However, I discovered that I can play these games straight off the HD (no mounting) if I use the Mooby plugin. But while that works beautifully through Delta; GameEx can't seem to launch them through your loader as long as it's set to Mooby as the plugin . In an effort to avoid using Moodby and get the regular ISO plugin to work, I've tried to re-rip in differnt formats, and I've even looked for patches. all to no avail. It just seems like it would be easier if there wasn't any disk mounting involved (one less thing to break). I dunno. So my options are: a] Mount the image first (which currently I can't do with the loader through gameEx) b] Use Mooby (which currently doesn't seem to work with the loader/gameEx) c] Just give up on the games and call it a day. d] Search the net for a pre-patched version (slightly unethical - though I do own the game) or E] wait for my good pal Nologic to come up with a clever solution and rejoice! haha I really appreciate your help man, and I'm in no hurry. It's just my silly insistance on "GameEx smoothness" that's got me up all night messing with this stuff. I can play the games fine atm, and honestly I'm sure you've got a heap of things you'd rather be doing. But if and when you get around to it, I will be ever so greatful... I don't care if it's mounting support, or mooby plugin support, whatever get's the job done Thanks Again, -SpyDIRmaN
  3. well I've got all my psx games ripped now, I've tweaked everything to work well (with delta), and your launcher is working great for me I've managed to re-rip most of those games that needed to be mounted (with Alcohol 120%), and now that they're in a better format (.img/.ccd instead of .mds/.mdf) I've got everything running smoothly straight off the HDD without any need for image mounting. but there are still 3 games that are vexing me. They load perfectly with the CDRmooby plugin (or being mounted to deamon tools), but nothing else. For some reason (as I think you've noticed) your loader doesn't seem to like CDRmooby. Is there a work around for this? The disk mounting option would fix this too, but it might be esier to just work out a way to get things working with CDRmooby and your loader. I'm sooo close... Thanks again for all your help.
  4. I live in Australia as well, but I'm originally from California (only been out here for a couple of years). My family all still live in the states, and I have them mail me stuff fairly often. If your can idea doesn't work, I could always order these magnets online, send them to my sister and have her mail them out this way (straight to you would probably be quicker). If it's not too expensive, I'd just consider it my donation for your CPViewer work. otherwise I've got paypal and we could work out the difference or something. Just thought I'd throw that out there. I've had my own troubles trying to get things from the US out here. I miss good mexican food and tequila, if only they could send that
  5. I'm using 2 logitech ps2 style rumble pads, and no emulators that do not already support gamepad input. I've got everything running pretty well as far as the controlls are concerned, but there's one little wrinkle I'd like to iron out. GameEx (and Zinc) insist on using the joy/analog stick for navigation. My controllers have a nifty little "mode" button wich toggles the D-Pad between Digital and analog, and so far that's how I've been doing things (just pressing the mode button to swap the d-pad over when running gameEx or Zinc). I've read a bit on the custominput.ini , but can't work out how to find the codes (if there are any for my d-pad). I've checked in the gamepad control panel but they don't list any key codes or button numbers for the d-pad. In Mame (using the control settings) they show up as "J1 Hat Switch U (D,L,R, etc)". but I don't know how that would translate into a code I could pop into the custominput.ini . Also there seems to be fewer option under the "Joystick" section in the .ini than in the "Keyboard" one. Does that mean I have to map the d-pad to keystrokes (using software) or is there a simpler way to do what I'm trying to do? Thanks in advance, -SpyDIRmaN
  6. I have about 30 or so games right now, but my flatmate has another 50 or so that I am planning to rip to the HardDrive. Yeah, I was gonna try the bat file approach before I stumbled upon Nologic's loader, which is working well for me at the moment. I'd love to take a look at a sample anyway. could help with the learning process. Can your batch file mount an image, and then launch the game (with delta settings) in ePSXe through GameEx? I'd be willing to consider using both .dt2 and .bat files in my GameEx listing (using .bat to account for the few games that need to be mounted first)... But again, I'm not sure what is possible.
  7. Hey Brian (that's my name too btw) It would be awesome to have that feature in the Delta/ePSXe loader (well for me anyway). I don't really know when I'll get a chance to takle dreamcast, but I'm sure it won't be long... Is it fairly well emulated, or is it still a WIP like ps2 and psp? I'm assuming NullDC has replaced Crankast for most people too. well thanks for any help you can lend.
  8. You're a bloody legend mate! (that's what they'd say here in Oz anway)... This seems to have done the trick. Spent a fair while creating Delta Profiles for each of my PSX games, but they load like I want them to now. And Delta's support for at least 1 extra version of ePSXe (being the old 1.5.2 in my case) has covered my compatibility troubles seamlessly. My only issue now (and it's a minor one I'm willing to work around for the moment) is maybe adding some sort of image mounting feature. I run all my games as disk images from the HD (saves the trouble of finding the right disk, or getting off the couch lol), but some don't work quite right, or sometimes at all, unless they are mounted in Daemon tools first, and run from there. I can configure Delta to look for the mounted disk (on a game by game basis, as some work fine launched as ISOs), but can't work out how I'd go about mounting the image file, via a script, in conjunction with your loader. Like I said, it's only a few games and I'm willing to live without them for the moment. I'm just thrilled to have gotten things running THIS smooth. Thanks again Nologic, -SpyDIRman
  9. Hey Nologic, I've been going through these old threads looking for help with getting Delta, ePSXe and GameEx to work nicely together. My situation is just about the same as this guys, however most of your posts (and scripts) have been removed as "no longer required" , etc. Is there a newer script/wrapper that launches Delta (and then ePSXe) from gameEx? Is this still the best method? Oh and in your Loaders request thread you mentioned maybe throwing together some preconfigured Delta configs (predefined with known working settings), did you ever get round to that? It would be so sweeeeeet if I could cut down on some of the configuring/tinkering time... How do YOU go about launching your PSX games? Cheers mate for any help you can give -SpyDIRmaN
  10. Alright, I'm about to get started trying to figure out how best to launch my PSX games, but I have a quick question. I plan to have GameEx link to a batch file (or AHK script) that launches the game with the proper plugin settings, and uses the right version of ePSXe (as some games work better in the older 1.5.2) Now I know this is all command line stuff, but my question is: 1. Is there any reason to use one of the loaders (Delta, or ePSXeCutor) at all, if I can pass the same info via the scrpit/batch file? 2. 'CAN' I pass the settings, patch, emu info to epsxe using just the batch/script? I want everything to play through GameEx smoothly using disk images (not cds)... Cheers!
  11. Thanks for the replies and guidance fellas. I now have an idea where I want to head with this. it's just been a question of where to start researching, and where best to place my time/efforts, so that in the end I will have learned what I needed to learn in order to churn out a respectable end user device/experience GameEx (and this forum) is definately the place to seek such information. Kinda what I had in mind (for myself, and possibly for your own amusment and discussion) was maybe a dedicated thread for people (especially the more emu savy) to post their basic setups. Kind of like how people used to list their system specs at the bottom every post (wow was that annoying haha), but in a forum thread so people can see what everyone else is doing... Then you could edit it, as you make changes, and discuss with eachother the interesting approaches used, and why... The relative noobs, like myself, may not have a clue (yet) what you're talking about, but at least we can get an idea of what can/should be done with GameEx. You could even add it to your profile. I dunno. No worries if you guys don't want/care to do that sort of thing, it was just an idea... I realize a whole lot of this forum is full of long discussion on small aspects of your own systems, but I thought it would be cool to see a nice clean list of "who's doing what". Here's a short, and crappy, Example : ------------------------------------------------------------- SpyDIRmaN's Arcade Box: Systems Specs: Blah, blah - Controllers: GamePad, blah, DISPLAY: 80cm TV (PAL) - S-video --------------------- Running Game Ex (Media Center theme) -Arcade sounds plugin -Manual viewer -CPviewer (headkaze beta) MAME .118 (no "ok" screen version) -Mame 1.06 (for killer instinct) Zinc 1.0 (just for SFEX Plus) -Batch Files GEN, 32x, SCD, SMS - Kega Fusion NES - Nestopia SNES - ZSNES N64 - Project 64 - 1.6 w/ Jabo 3D8 1.6 (most games) -PJ64 1.7 - Jabo 3D8 1.7 - (C&C , pokemon stadium) -EMU grouped in GameEx PSX -ePSXe 1.5.2 (default) -ePSXe 1.6 (some games) -pSX - (some games) Grouped in Game ex and launced via batch files that: pick emu, load plugins, cheats, patches, mount, launch DreamCast -NullDC 1.0 -Null DC loader, etc, etc. ETC, ETC, ETC... You get the idea. -----------------------------------------------------
  12. My plan is to make a - console style - emu box, that doubles as a bit of a low end HTPC. I want to leave it in the living room, connected to the TV, and set it up (via GameEX), so that even my dumbest flatmate can watch movies, play music, surf the net, and access the SLEW of games available, via wireless controllers, and a wireless keyboard (with built in mouseball)... Not quite as cool as a dedicated Cab, but it's affordable Anyway, I think I can work out how to configure most of this stuff (been hacking away at it for weeks now), but I think it would do me , and other fairly new people, a world of good to know what setup the pros are using??? There's a million threads about what's the best Emu for whatever system, but I'm more interested in the approach (loaders, launcers, batchfiles, scripts, grouped emulators, etc). For example, one thing I'm dealing with now is: it seems there's a million different ways to go about launching PSX games. I can't decide if it's worth learning a scripting language (like AutoHotkeys) or to try the Deamon Script thing, or try to figure out how to get ePSXeCutor working in GameEX. Should I run multiple copies of ePSXe and group them in GameEx to account for certain games running better in older versions? etc, etc, etc. I can hunt down the answers, so long as I know I'm not wasting my time. I -for one- don't mind combing forums, or reading FAQs/guides to work out the details, but it's always good to know you're on the right track, and I can't think of a better way than being able to see that "Well this is how Tom and Nologic do it, but HeadKaze, and Adultry do it this way" , etc. you get the idea It gets a bit discouraging when you spend hours working on a way to fix your problem, only to find that that approach has become defunct and outdated. Maybe it needs its own thread like the "Cabs running GameEx" one, I dunno. But it would be awesome, and downright inspiring, to know what basic setups you guys are using.. Cheers! -SpyDIRmaN
  13. The new DBs are great. I think you guys have done really well with them thus far. Perhaps there could be an open discussion with Tom about how to make better use of them in GameEx. I've got my own half-brained ideas about what I'd like to see (an option to select which category fields are displayed, etc), but I think it's better left to people, such as yourself, who know what you're talking about
  14. I'm having the same problem (bios roms showing up in gameEx list)... I'm using the command line mame .118 (with the ok screen removed). I tired the -listfull command, but for the life of me I can't find any XML file. Is this the file that I would need to delete/recreate to have GameEx not list these BIOS files when I "update the rom list"? They hadn't always shown up, but in an effort to organize things a bit, I moved the BIOS files to a sperate folder, and just pointed to it, along with the rom folder, in the GameEx advance config. I think that's when they started showing up. Thanks for any help you can give, -SpyDi
  15. Sweet! I'm fairly new to the whole emu thing, but I've found everyone involved to be outstanding, and ridiculously helpful... I'd searched the web for Screenshot sets in an effort to cut down on the time it would take me to do them myself. While there are a number of sources out there (many of which can be found linked here in the GameEx forum) they were all incomplete and/or not matching up with my sets. And I was left spending hours touching them up with file renamers, and filling the gaps with GameEx's, very useful, snapshot feature. I hadn't even considered trying the video preview feature until I heard about your project, which honestly, is the only viable way for me to add such a cool feature. I'd just like to say thanks. Thanks for all the time you've put in, and all the time you've just saved me. I put in an order for the whole DVD set (via your site). I have no trouble what-so-ever supporting worthy projects, such as Game-Ex, and yours... You Guys Rock! With the time I've saved, perhaps now I'll have time to try my lame, but ever-improving, hand at HeadKaze's new Cpviewer! Cheers! -Brian L (SpyDIRmaN)
  16. I downloaded a huge torrent of Arcade PDFs in my search to add game manuals to my Mame games (like I've done with a few of my console systems). I was disapointed, when the torrent finished, to find that they were operator's manuals and didn't include much more than dip switch settings and tiny bit of tech info. At any rate they weren't going to be of much use to an end user so I ended up tossing the file... (sorry if that's what you were looking for, otherwise i'd seed it for you) If you find anywhere to get gameplay manuals for arcades (I don't know that they were ever produced, short of key maps for the arcade controls that were usually up on the marquee) I'd be keen to know where. -SpyDi
  17. In two words: Hell Yes! It does what it does - very well, has great support, and (from my knowledge) fills a small, but growing, gap in the market for these features... There are other front ends, sure, but none as feature rich, easily configured, and smooth-as-silk looking as Game Ex! You've done well Tom!
  18. That sounds great! Call me uptight, but there's just something a bit off about the whole disk swapping thing. I know you had to do it on the Console, but that's because of space limitation, if there's a way around it on the PC I much prefer to have just a single game name listed in Game Ex instead of Final Fantasy 7 cd 2, cd 3 , etc. If I get this working (in GameEx via ePSXe) I'll be sure to post how. Now it's off to google. do you have any good links about doing this? -SpyDi
  19. I was just about to ask this question, but it seems like maybe this (in a way) tells me the answer... I've been messing with the .MDBs and (best as I can tell) the only DataBase fields GameEx notices are the "GoodName" , "Developer" , "Date" , "Category" and "Description" columns I was gonna ask if there was a way to edit the GameEx settings to select more, less, or different .mdb fields so that the end user can tweak their own settings... but I guess not. But as long as we're talking about it. I would love to be able to list games in multiple categories... If Tom does find the time to add this sort of thing to gameEx, it would be sweet! I'd suggest (time, and patience willing) adding the additional features of Sub Categories, and an advanced button option (available in the Advanced config setup, kinda like the update game list option which can be turned on or off) which allows you to ADD to or EDIT the DATABASE straight from the games list in GameEx! That would make it so easy to see what games you don't have setup right, and change things right from your games list... I'm sure that would be a pain in the arse to implement, but we can always day-dream right? Besides, it's not a real feature request yet so silly bablings like mine shouldn't bother anyone... I hope
  20. I know the GameEx uses the command line to launch emus, but I was wondering if there was any way to access some of the GUI fetures of these emus even though running GameEx. Such as the Netplay feature in Zsnes, or the Cheat feature built into Project64... I know it's lame to cheat, but it's fun to kick my girlfriends ass in MarioKart64 after setting the RedShell weapon to stay forever And as for netplay, I'm still new to the whole Emu scene, it may be awhile before I ever try out the netplay feature, but the idea sounds awesome. is there a way to access these features even if I launch the Emu Apps through GameEx? For example, Zsnes has ESC key go to the GUI, but if launched from GameEx ESC just closes back to the game list. Can I change what key GameEx uses to close emus, or has anyone worked out a more clever approach? Any guidence would be appreciated... Thanks -SpyDi PS., one more quick (unrelated question)... Is there any reason for me to use Nebula instead of MAME for neogeo games? They seem to run fine in Mame, and I'd rather not add another emu if I don't have to. Does anyone else here run Nebula or that Kewaksa (misspelled I'm sure) to run NeoGeo games?
  21. I'm personally hoping to consolidate many of the categories with more general descriptions (Side View Level, 1st Person Shooter, RPG/Adventure, etc)... I don't want to have to try looking through 15 ???/Adventure categories to find Zelda, and have it listed along side some sideview level game like Golden Axe... But that's just me. I doubt there will be a consensus or standard that will be fully accepted by all, and to be honest, just having the .MDBs at all adds a huge "wow" factor anyway. I thinks it's awesome what you guys are doing, I just wish I knew more about it all so I could tweak things myself... With a little time, I'm sure I'll work it out... (there's still a heap of emulator stuff for me to learn, so this is a bit lower on the priority list)... Anyways, Keep up the good work fellas! and Stu, if you ever write an app that makes it easy to "search/replace" genres/categories in the .mdbs I'd be quite keen to get a copy... Cheers! -SpyDi
  22. I too have had interesting results by trying to edit the .mdb files... I got hold of the beta versions that Nologic, and the others were working via that thread... and they are heaps better than the old ones, but I'm wanting to change the categories so that they are simple and easy to follow (to my own liking)... And, of course, I want them to show up for all my roms. Strange thing is though, that even though some of my roms matched the goodname in the .mdb they still didn't show up in gameEx... Then, just to silly, i changed the file extension on one of the N64 roms (one that wasn't showing up) from .v64 to .z64 and all of a sudden it's database info showed up... ??? ... I was like wtf? I don't have any idea why or how that worked. and it doesn't seem like that should have any effect at all. I can't see anywhere in the .mdb that would care what the file extension was... I dunno... I'm sure one of these guys can work it out though. They've got this stuff down pat!
  23. That was it... For some dumb reason (probably my fault) it had my video directory set there... Thanks a lot man... That was driving me nutz... Cheers!!!
  24. Nope it's truly stuck... just have to restart the computer. which prevents me from getting any log info that would be useful. It seems as though someone else on here is describing exactly the same symptoms in this thread ... http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?sh...art=#entry24522 only difference is I had my screen settings set to blank screen, and no video... And also I'm having that strange thing where GameEx minimizes to the task bar after starting up. When I Alt+TAB to switch to it, it just minimizes again. But if I click on it with the mouse it comes up.... I've been messing with it a bit, and just once (and never again even with the same settings), when I started GameEx, instead of the loading screen, it started up playing one of the movies (zoolander) in my movie folder upsidedown. when I hit ESC it went right to the GameEx start screen... Weird.
  25. Whops, sorry I forgot to do that... I've managed to get around the Attract/Screensaver hang by just turning it off. But GameEx still automatically minimizes to the task bar for some reason after it starts up... Here is my log (from before turning off the Attract/Screensaver)... I don't think the log is complete because I have to restart the computer everytime. Anyway, here's what's happening again: After waiting 1min the screen goes black (attract screen option) and then if I move the mouse, the screen comes back on but everything is fozen... I've managed to get the task manager up once and gameEx was using 99%cpu. most of the time though, I can't even get taskmanager going... I just have to restart hope this helps... ----------------------------------------------------- 11:29:52.1 1/08/2007: GameEx: Version 8.67: Starting Log 11:29:52.1 1/08/2007: Operating System Platform: Win32NT 11:29:52.1 1/08/2007: Operating System Name: Windows XP 11:29:52.1 1/08/2007: Operating System Version: 5.1.2600 11:29:52.1 1/08/2007: Checking for versions of .net Framework installed 11:29:52.1 1/08/2007: .net Framework 2.0 Installed 11:29:52.1 1/08/2007: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3400+, 1023MB 11:29:52.1 1/08/2007: 2.21Ghz 11:29:52.1 1/08/2007: Running Randomize() 11:29:52.1 1/08/2007: Loading PlugIns 11:29:52.5 1/08/2007: Checking for applications to Launch On Startup 11:29:52.6 1/08/2007: Running Misc startup tasks 11:29:52.6 1/08/2007: Setting Menu types 11:29:52.6 1/08/2007: Opening Configuration File 11:29:52.6 1/08/2007: Getting Configuration Values 11:29:52.7 1/08/2007: Using Theme: Default - Media Center 11:29:52.7 1/08/2007: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: Default - Media Center 11:29:52.8 1/08/2007: Launching HideOS.exe 11:29:52.8 1/08/2007: Initialising Video/MNG DLL's 11:29:53.0 1/08/2007: Hiding Taskbar 11:29:53.0 1/08/2007: Is Media Center running? 11:29:53.0 1/08/2007: Checking/Creating LCD Registry values 11:29:53.0 1/08/2007: Check Media Center Exit/Start Mode 11:29:53.0 1/08/2007: Media Center Mode 2 11:29:53.5 1/08/2007: Snap Delay set to: 2 11:29:53.5 1/08/2007: Get other settings 11:29:54.3 1/08/2007: Set: Find emulator artwork on best match basis 11:29:54.7 1/08/2007: Start work for Form 11:29:54.7 1/08/2007: Getting Original Screen Size 11:29:54.7 1/08/2007: Opening Database Connection 11:29:54.8 1/08/2007: Initializing Component 11:29:54.9 1/08/2007: Retrieving resolution setting 11:29:55.0 1/08/2007: Creating Radio Station Genres 11:29:55.2 1/08/2007: Succesfully created station genres 11:29:55.3 1/08/2007: Initialising Windows Media Player Component 11:29:55.4 1/08/2007: MAME Path is: C:\Emulators\ARCADE\MAME32 11:29:55.5 1/08/2007: ZiNc Path is: C:\Emulators\ARCADE\ZINC 11:29:55.5 1/08/2007: ZiNc EXE file is: ZiNc.exe 11:29:55.6 1/08/2007: Use ZiNc on.
