Silly question but where do I get this? its not available via the GameEx site
-
I think its fair to say most people with cabs use an IPAC or one of the similar devices or a program similar to xpadder that does not have a GameEx plugin.... thus execute before and after for all emulators and means to run a game is a must really.

Me again... in the advanced emulator config you can set the joystick to function as a mouse and the first two buttons work as mouse buttons. The only thing missing is the ability to allocate two buttons to use for scroll wheel up and down... many games use the scroll wheel -
I've set up the copy of steem that came with gamebasest as a generic emulator in GameEx and done away with gamebase thus I can have gameex handle the keyboard re-mapping.... I only wanted my old fav atari st games, perhaps 20-30 at most and gamebase was just a major over complication

Its the hours and hours of my time!! if I lost it I'd not want to do it again!! Even following my current backup method I'm looking at hours of restoration... I'm tempted to look at the various windows bare metal recovery options.... I work primarily in Linux, have done for over 10 years so my windows is a little rusty

Thanks! I'll have a play, although I imagine it needs to reprogram the IPAC back to defaults when its finished

Thanks guys, I've added a feature request

When using gamebase it would really be handy to have a "launch before" and "launch after" option for all those of us who use an IPAC. This way the IPAC can map any spare buttons to keyboard buttons that are handy.... IE Amiga and Atari ST only have one fire button, however depending on the game its common to use F1, F2, 1, 2 to actually start a game. This would make the gamebase feature perfect for setups like mine which is a cab, no keyboard. -
Hi, nice thought and yes winipac can be used to set the ipac button profiles on the fly... that would be perfect however there is no "launch before" options under the gamebase settings in gameex
-
I've done that and its fine.... however for any emulator in gameex under advanced emulator config you can launch a dialogue which lets you map keyboard key 'A' to keyboard key 'B' for example.... you do this because when you have an ipac your arcade buttons are pre-assigned to keyboard keys which are used by everything else such as MAME... however an Atari ST only has 1 fire button meaning I've got 7 other buttons that could do useful things... IE many game start by pressing "1" or "2" on the keyboard... I'd be fine if I could map a couple of my buttons to those keys.

Hi, I followed the guide on here to setup gamebaseST in gameex and it works great! Steem runs a treat. However I want to remap some ipac buttons to handy st keys IE have a spare fire button remapped from the standard IPAC definition of "Z" to "F1".... under all my other emulators in gameex I can do this under the keymapping features of advanced emulator setup... however with gamebase I'm not sure how I can do this as the gamebase settings screen in setup wizard does not offer many options. Any ideas? Thanks

interesting....

Ah actually when you asked are you using the xpadder plugin I remembered initial I was not because I tried to set it up as a external app... but now its run as an emulator I can use the xpadder plugin! so I configured the xpadder plugin for the emulator (minecraft) and it works... Still does not explain why xpadder was not run as a "run before" for the minecraft emulator entry but the way I have it now does seem to be the most proper way of running the game. Thanks

Hi, This is my first advanced emulator config hence why I'm asking someone to check if I'm right about this bug. But it looks like the "launch before" option for advanced emulators simply is not working. I'm trying to set up a menu entry for minecraft (for my kids honest :-) First of all I set it up as an external application/program. I noticed the "launch before" was working here! as xpadder was starting. However minecraft is java based so I had to set it up as an advanced emulator game so I could add the setting that looks for the javaw.exe process to finish before gameex considers the game exited... the problem is while minecraft works xpadder is not started. The command I use which I know works is "Xpadder.exe minecraft /M". Any thoughts anyone? Also any chance the external app function of GameEx can have the advanced option to set a process to watch out for? The problem with minecraft is the minecraft.exe is only a launcher that launches the game (java) process then exits thus GameEx thinks I've quit out the game. Thanks

I've added two specific sections to the "Essentials overview" section of the doc covering getting all the artwork and 3d cabs. Lets face it, its the bells and whistles that make GameEx so its two important steps to the setup :-) The sections are: Download art and videos Populate 3d Cabinets Cheers, Jon

great work... where can I find the details on whats changed? or changelog?
-
Thanks guys. Yeah I've found between gameex and the "download artwork and videos" program I pretty much get everything I want without any manual intervention. I am however missing the 3d cabs etc.... I wonder, will there be a point were either gameex or the "download artwork and videos" program will grab this content? In the meantime I can add the process for grabbing 3dcab artwork to the guide. ArcadeFan, are your roms conventionally named following the mame standard? did you find yourself renaming all the 3dcab art or just some?

Thanks guys! ArcadeFan/Draco1962, thanks for the pointer and thanks for the new working draco, thats much better. AlphaUmi/Null thanks for the pointers on what to backup, I've added these to the doc. I can't test them till I add my steam account to my GameEx setup which may be this weekend if my kids give me 5 mins peace :-) I can't see much else to do beyond testing the steam backup instructions and reviewing the whole doc with a mind to using better wording, its come along nicely. ArcadeFan, did you follow the guide when you did your install? if so any other glaring short-comings? Remember the goal for the doc is to give a new user a clear set of high level steps to take and guide them in the right direction, its not a detailed howto... if it were the sheer size of the doc would probably nullify its usefulness.
