I don't know about the XBMC aspect but the numeric button issue is strange. Do your MCE remote number keys work correctly in other applications?

Ok, it probably won't help but you never know - if you unzip the file below and copy the exe ontop of your SlingFront.exe, then go into control panel and uninstall "WebSlingPlayer ActiveX". Then run the new SlingFront exe and it should download a slightly (about 6 months) later version, which is the one I've been using for ages without any problems. https://www.dropbox.com/s/0z32offekzoy2bb/SlingFront_beta_4.zip

1) yes, the keyboard support in SlingFront is at a low level in that it doesn't care which apps have the focus from what I can tell, it just checks the physical state of the keys and reacts accordingly. I'm not sure if there is a reason it was coded this way. 2) did you try different quality settings? I must admit I don't see this issue, I have it working pretty well. That said I haven't tried the latest Windows web plugin much so maybe they've improved things a lot. We do need to update the project to use the latest web plugin though. 3) not sure why this would be, but again maybe the latest plugin would fix this too. On the subject of plugins, I think the one that SlingFront installs is quite old now. there are more recent ones which also work with it, maybe these would help with 2) and 3). When I say more recent I don't mean the very latest, which definitely doesn't work with SlingFront, but some revisions later than the one that SlingFront installs. I will look to build an executable that installs the plugin I've been using for a while now.

Thanks - so does this only reproduce when using an MCE remote? When it's in this error state, what happens if you just press the comma/period keys? Also, just to clarify, when you wrote above "Then in slingfront make appqualityminimum and appqualitygood to zero. Then make skip back and skip to oemcomma and OemPeriod respectively" - are you doing this in the .ini file or simply inside SlingFront remapping skip back/to to these keys (and it automatically zeroing the appqualityminimum and appqualitygood)? -

Hmm, I haven't been able to reproduce this behaviour. Can you remember the exact steps and issue that occurred? Ie what behaviour did you see? I tried assigning the keys that are by default assigned to the quality controls to other functions, leaving the AppQualityXXX keys all assigned to no key but after doing that, the other commands all seemed to behave as normal. -

Hi Alan, Thanks for that, yes that's useful I appreciate you taking the time. I will have a look and try and fix whatever is causing it. Cheers Oliver -

Ok thanks for the info - that's strange as my password has letters and numbers and it works ok. Were there any other characters apart from numbers and letters when it failed? I'm not aware of any issues with the resolution being stuck - what setting have you chosen for "Quality" under the Slingbox? -

Ok, so can you PM me the login credentials for this empty account so I can see if the same happens to me? If the same happens then with a bit of luck I'll be able to figure out what is going on by stepping through the code where it fails. -

No logs that I know of - could you possibly try and create a new account with no slingboxes in it and see if that also fails? If it does, then i could see if it reproduces for me, and if it does try and debug it and see what is going on. -

Ok and can you just verify that when you go to this page in your browser it lets you sign-in ok? https://accounts.sling.com/accounts/sling/login/loginform Also, can you verify the size of the SlingFront.exe that you are launching matches the one above that you downloaded inside the zip? -

No problem, the only change in the last one I uploaded was to make it de-assign a function from a key if the key is being assigned to a new function. It seemed to work ok in my quick test, so it was just a case of someone else verifying it too just to make sure, then hopefully Tom can release this new code. -

At what point is it failing - does it bring up the account login page when the exe starts and fails at that point? Or is it failing later on to actually connect to your Slingbox? -

So further to the above, here is a new version which should unassign keys from their old function, if you assign them to a new function. Alan, if you could possibly go into the SlingFront settings folder (type %APPDATA% into the Start box in Windows, then go to the SlingFront folder) and delete the "Keyboard_Mappings_v2.ini" file and then run this new executable and let me know if things work better for you when mapping keys that would be a great help. https://www.dropbox.com/s/i3kmxl8gzpkvwo8/SlingFront_beta_3.zip -

Alan, subsequent updates shouldn't touch the mappings you set, this was hopefully a one-off. However, it shouldn't have kept any if your previous mappings, they all should have been reset to defaults so unless I've messed up the defaults and assigned the same key twice I'm insure how you ended up with that situation - I'll have another look, perhaps I made a mistake somewhere. Thanks for testing By the way, search for the file 'keyboard_mappings_v2.ini' if you want to edit using a text file. You could back this up and then delete it and run the exe again whereupon it should recreate it - maybe you can then send me this file and also the original one without the _v2 extension and this might help me see what's going on. EDIT : Ok, I don't think I fully digested your post, what I understand is that it did in fact correctly change all the defaults (although I accidentally had the W key assigned twice) but your problem was just that the defaults use some of the keys you want to assign to other functions? I think you are right in that when you assign a key to a function it needs to unassign that key from any other function it might have been assigned to. I'll have a look at doing that, sorry for the confusion with my understanding -

No worries - the app offers many things that the official apps don't so I'm keen to see it continue. -

Ok, here is a new beta to try which implements all the possible remote STB commands. As part of this, I've tried to improve the naming of all the keyboard shortcuts - essentially anything that controls the application is now preceded by "App" so for example "AppDisconnect" and "AppStreamInfo" relate to disconnecting the stream or getting the stream info. Everything else is a remote STB command. So for example "AppVolUp" increases the application volume, whereas "VolumeUp" is for increasing the volume on the remote STB. Since the menu these appear in in the settings section is sorted alphabetically this means all the App-prefixed shortcuts now appear at the top of the menu, which I think is quite helpful. I also took the opportunity to make the namings of all the remote STB commands match the list I posted in the other thread a while back. All in all, this should now be much cleaner. The downside is that when you run this executable all the mappings will be reset to default values - so if you've heavily customised them then you will have to do this again. Please let me know if any of these changes have broken anything - hopefully they won't have! https://www.dropbox.com/s/t7put8mstyp4tgi/SlingFront_beta_2.zip -

Thanks Alan, I'll take a look as soon as I can. I agree it would be good to have things consolidated so there are no longer multiple versions floating around. Now that Tom has let me check stuff directly into the sourceforge repository I can help out a little bit. -

Alan (or Judy) where can I find the info about this, is there a thread somewhere, or some code containing the changes? -

Right, jillefsky, try this one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cmpasjgmhywznxy/SlingFront_beta.zip I've been manually merging my changes back into Tom's main code in SourceForge, so I've not tested this much - so please let me know if you have any problems! -

Ok, I've rebuilt an executable from the code in SourceForge, including the fix, and you can download it from here. Just unzip the exe over the old one and hopefully it should do until Tom updates the proper installer and releases a new version. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fko75zbb8x12mfy/SlingFront.zip -

They have made a small change to the sign-in web page which requires a small change in SlingFront. I've fixed and verified it in my custom build and will try and upload this soon. -
SiingFront not working with latest ActiveX plugin
oviano replied to oviano's topic in SlingFront - SlingBox HTPC Front End
I had another look at this but I've still not managed to work it out. This is likely because when it comes to VB and ActiveX I haven't really got a clue, in fact this is my first exposure I'm still at the same point described above, with the most recent plugin. I can get it building and running up and retrieving the directory but it fails connecting because a bunch of stuff isn't set. -
Treat SlingFront the same as the web player. I.e. you sign into it with your Sling account and it shows all the Slingboxes in your directory. You can't currently connect directly with an IP address but presumably your Slingbox shows up in your directory and if not you can probably add it via your account page at Sling?
-
Not hugely critical right now as we can just uninstall the latest and let SlingFront download and install the old older one but this might catch up with us at some point if they ever make new firmware require a newer plugin, or indeed fix bugs in the plugin which we want to take advantage of. Tom/anybody coding: Aside from a couple of minor build errors, the main problem is it lists the Slingboxes but cannot connect. I traced it through to the Player.CurrentBox.IsAvailable and .IsConfigured being zero at the point of connecting, with the new plugin installed. Without it installed these values are 1 - indeed they are 1 right immediately upon entry to the program with the old plugin, but zero with the new plugin. Maybe some kind of initializer needs calling, but I can't see what...
