Yeah..it's just not working. I'll have to drop back and punt for now...I got Mame up..and 3 real pinball machines...that should keep them entertained hopefully. I'll dig into this when I get more time.

Hey guys...having out of state company coming in today and was trying to test all my emulators on my cabinet to make sure they were working. I'm having an issue with Visual Pinball in GameEx where the DMD display box will not stay in front of the pinball table screen. If I alt-tab I see it's running and it pops up for a second then disappears again. Is there a way to fix this or am I going to have to just run pinball outside of GameEx (which works fine that way). Thank you! Mike

Ok..well I downloaded another mame emulator (MameUI) with the newly released version .130 and tested it from scratch and the artwork bezels worked! I went through my mame folder and cleaned out all my exe, txt, and ini files and then moved over the mame exe files and such and tested it out in GameEx and all is back to normal. Don't know what happened, but it's working again! Thanks guys..

Will test out some things when I get home this evening and post findings..I know it's gotta be something simple I'm just overlooking.

My last mame version update was from V.126 to .129 I know it was working, but for some reason no matter what I try it won't show the bezel artwork. One question...These are saved in individual zip files for each game that has a bezel artwork overlay. Did they need to be unzipped to work? Are there any ini files or something that may be interfering with locating the right directory for the artwork.

Not too long ago, all my bezels were working fine. Now tonight I can't seem to get them to work. I've upgraded to Version .129 . Has something changed? Could someone run over their config for me so I can compare notes?? Thanks!

Congrats TOM! You definately deserve it as well as all of the contributors over the years! It definately has become a force to be reckoned with!

"If the main issue really is just when your working with the OS and such...why not just use Remote Desktop and access the system from a networked computer at your proffered resolution... " I do sometimes, but I like to work on the fly and test it and it seems easier to be in there on the cabinet instead of RDP'ing from another room. I guess I'm just being picky now! LOL

This is what I found online in the manual. Looks like Component is only 480i. So definately not HD. Yes..I actually researched it online before I bought it and someone said they had it connected to a pc and it ran at that resolution...so I thought I'd try it. I can set my PC to 800X600 or 1024X768 via S-Video input and it will resize and function with Refresh at 60hz. It's not a HD TV though..that's why I'm wondering if the Component would even improve Screen Clarity at all. I'll try and look online and get the specs on that Model. It's been discontinued for a few years.
-
Yeah..I think I'm just stuck using what I've got seems like...I guess I'll just have to Super Size all my fonts in windows and see If it's legible. My TV will work with a 1024 X 768 res. which looks great for things like Future Pinball but just kills me trying to move around and update files and such. Has anyone used the VGA adapter for ATI to change output to component? I do have a component input on the TV. I wonder if that would help with clarity at all??
-
No I really have not thought about another CRT basically due to the Size/Weight issue. I may have to do that though at it's far more reasonable to do $$ wise...Only downside to that is the TV is connected to my satellite so I could watch TV on the arcade when not playing games and working on my Pins in the game room. I did see a 26" Lcd tonight that looked fairly equivalent lengthwise....I was thinking maybe rotating it 90 degrees and making it more like a vertical display..I know graphics cards can rotate..but dunno how strange that would look in Windows. I thought I remembered seeing a few years ago someone creating a mechanized rotation device in a cabinet to rotate the display from horizontal to vertical?

Ok guys....I'm tired of dealing with blurry screens in Windows when I'm working on my cabinet. My eyes aren't getting any younger! I'm wanting to find a comparable LCD TV Monitor to replace my 27" 4:3 TV that I have in there now. Right now I have the Happs 27" Black Trim Cover that goes around the TV Tube and looks perfect...However since I don't see any 4:3 LCD's, I'm trying to find a good alternative way to put in an LCD and still make it look somewhat like it belongs naturally in the cabinet. Has anyone done or use LCD's yet? or is it too taboo to mention! Not to mention it'll make my cabinet about 75 lbs. lighter, I think it'll resolve a lot of my Viewing issues..though it will kill my light gun capabilties, bummer. Thanks. Mike

Can't get VPinball to load table with mapped drive
moparmaniac replied to moparmaniac's topic in General
Ahhh great! That was it! Thanks Guys! -
I'm trying to connect to my mame cabinet in another room to play pinball. I have my drive mapped to my machine and I can search tables and play directly through visual pinball, but if I try it through GameEx, it loads vpinball.exe but gives me the error: Load Error - Error Loading file. My map to the drive must be working because it will list all of the games from the folder..It's just not opening them. Here is my config...Maybe someone can help me out? Forgive me if I'm a little rusty...I haven't had to mess with GameEx since I initially set it up!! Thanks for the info, and yes I did do a search before asking but I guess I wasn't using the correct keywords. Perhaps you can reply back with the keywords that will pull up a match when searching?

I'm wanting to move my GameEx install over to a new system in my cabinet. Can I just install GameEx on the new system, then copy my old GameEx folder over the new folder? I have all my other emulators and game files on another hard drive which I will move over as well and have the drive letter same as on the old system. Thanks, Mike

Mame EFFECTS option...How to make it work in GameEx
moparmaniac replied to moparmaniac's topic in General
Ok..Nevermind...Apparently the command line doesn't like to be told the full directory if you have the file in another folder. YAY! -
Could someone assist me in trying to figure out what the proper command is to use the various scanline effects for Mame? No matter what I try, it always says Unable to load .png file....however when I use Mame32FX where I have selected an effect it works, so I'm sure it's just a setting I'm messing up on the command line. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks, Mike

Please Help Guys!! This is getting frustrating....
moparmaniac replied to moparmaniac's topic in General
Brian, I copied the theme.ini file from the Default - Custom V2 Default 1024x768 theme into Tron and now the mouse focus is working. Thanks....maybe that is what I had to do last time too..but it's been 2 years since I had this set up originally. -
Ok..I've got all the bugs out of GameEx and Mame now...got it to hide disclaimers/game info, and got my artwork back, and high scores. All I've got left is to get my mouse working again in GameEx. I want to use TRON as my theme as it's the coolest one! But when it loads up I can move my mouse around and nothing works. If I move a key on the keyboard then the mouse disappears all together. It does work on other themes..but I don't want another theme! Tom..anyone...I've got company coming next weekend and want to have my cabinet up and running again! Thanks.. Mike

Well after finally Getting Mame and GameEx to cooperate again after reinstalling GameEx, I changed themes back to Tron and now I have no mouse in GameEx. It will work in other Themes. Any Ideas why it's not working in Tron? Enable mouse is Selected.

Is there an option to have Mame save high scores and use Artwork??
moparmaniac replied to moparmaniac's topic in General
Well What I ended up doing was just waxing out GameEx all together and reinstalling. I had to specify the specific artwork directory under the Advanced Mame Settings line options to get the artwork to work. For the high score, I'm using Mame32FX v.118 and using the high score file and it's working now. Right now the only still annoying thing is when I load up a game it's bypassing the disclaimer but it's popping up the rom data info (CPU, Sound Processors..etc.) is there a setting I'm missing somewhere. It won't do this when using the Mame32FX GUI; it will go straight to the game. I do have it checked in GameEx settings to skip warnings/disclaimers. -
Ok Guys...I need your help..been trying to work this out all day with little luck. I was using MAME Plus Version 118 so that I can keep high scores. But when I try it through GameEX nothing is working. If I use the Mame command line it works, but no high score saves. Also I would like to see my Artwork bezels and I haven't been able to get this to work all stinkin day. I'm asking for a little help here!! I deleted all the config files as well as the ini files attached to mame and mame32 and mame plus but still no workie...It's been a loooong time since I updated all my files..maybe that was my first mistake. Anyway if you guys could help, it'd be much appreciated! Right now all it does is get to the initializing point when loading a game and then goes back to GameEx. *OK I've uninstalled GameEx and reinstalled as well as removed mame and installed v. .106 and I still cannot get it to play in GameEx.....sigh..I'm going to bed now......
