Hello I decided to add some new games to my cabinet after a long while and it looks like a newer version of gameex changed the way artwork gets downloaded from emumovies. Before all I had to do was point the app at a folder where I would put my new rom, select the artwork specific wanted and download just for the roms im working with. Now it launches the client and scans all 3,800 of my games it takes forever I have to have my incomplete games in the folder with my complete ones I got no options and it doesnt seem to download manuals. My question is: anyway I can get the old app back? thanks!

ok here is config dxdiag to show my hardware and log. Let me know if there is anything else I can provide. I also think it bears mentioning that this long wait time doesnt only happen the first time I boot gameex and bring up on of those lists it happens when I select a game from the list as well as when I back out of the game sub menu to return to the list and its constant it never catches up or goes faster. Its a bit of a buzz kill to select something wait 3-5 minuets, select something else wait 3-5 minuets, back out wait ect ect. especially when steam or orgin is already loaded in the background and actually launching the game has no slow down at all just navigating the menus in gameex seems to for those particular lists. I included some of my theme and costume menu settings as well because it seems more noticable since I updated my theme. Anyways thanks for help lot me know if anything else is needed. Hello, ive noticed an issue ive been having with Gameex and that is if my game lists contain any games that use online services like steam or origin my game lists take allot longer to load. Sometimes up to 5 minuets while my other emus/groups load instantly. When I take my CPU offline though they load normally like any other list. I also noticed that on these lists gameex tends to scan multiple unrelated folders before bringing up the list of games. Is that normal? Its late and I am on a different CPU so I wont be able to post my ini log files or dxdiag ect but I wanted to post the question anyways just to get it out there. Ill follow up tomorrow with whatever relevant logs and info I can find. Thanks!

Hello I just went on a bit of a Steam shopping spree for my Arcade cab and after installing my games I went into gameex and noticed my games where not being added to my list. So first I ran the games in steam with no luck. Then I deleted one of the games from steam and reinstalled and no luck so then I deleted steamdatav2 and ran gameex and all my steam games where gone from my list and it did not create a new steamdata ini file. So after that I deleted my steam media folders to see if it rebuilt that and it did it just wasnt creating a steam ini file. Ill attach my gameex ini and log any help is appreciated. Let me know if anything else is needed GameEx.ini log.txt

Thanks kindly that did the trick! By the way a couple more questions. Whats the emulator number for EA origin? I know steam is 1002. Also I got a new theme added and for some reason it takes very long to load certain emulators and groups since I got it. (Space Invaders HD) anyone run into that?

Anyone else have problems with video playback in gameex? My game demo video playback is a glitchy with video stutter and random pixels even though the source video plays fine in Windows Media Player. Seems to have occured a few updates ago.
-
So BlueMSX is probably the best Colecovision emulator out there. But my issue is the audio keeps stuttering. Anyone use this emulator before and perhaps found a good sound/performance configuration? Been fooling with the settings for hours and still cant get my audio to sync up right. Any help much appreciated.

Awesome thanks for the Fix I was just about to post about this as I was having the same issue even when I didnt have SSF in my emulator list it was crashing with gameex.

I feel like a total noob but I cant seem to figure out how to respond to the Suggestion thread like I can on my thread. There is no post reply section on the bottom of the page. I was also thinking about adding a suggestion of having CRT shaders built into gameex. I think that would be really cool. Especially for my Atari 2600. As far as my videos Im just getting new ones in MP4 format instead of FLV and so far so good. I wish I knew of an easy way to give my display a CRT like effect but so far everything I have come across has been waaay to advanced for me and extremely time consuming. I know some individual emulators have those settings but it would be nice to have a universal one I could set up for the sake of consistency. I know regret getting a cabinet kit that only allowed for a flat screen and wish I would have found one with a CRT monitor. sigh.

Thanks Draco, I will check this out and then report back. And for those new that need help figuring out map file here is all you have to do to change the name of your MAME file in Gameex. For an example we will take Pac Man. So first you take a notepad file and you copy all the file names of all the MAME roms you want to name change. And you only got to do the ones you want to show up in your list. So if you got to get Puck Man to get the file to work and you got the Midway Pac Man rom as well then you just got to type in the notepad the rom name | and what you want to name it. So install both Puckman and Pacman in your mame rom folder and then put pacman|Pac-Man Do this for every rom you want to show up in gameex under that certian emulator and save it to C: Gameex Data emulators and give it a name like [Arcade] MAME.mdb and make sure to turn on file extensions in Windows so you can change it from .txt to .mdb. then go into your advanced emulator settings and set the map directory to the .mdb file you just created! Figured id offer some advice to now Gameex enthusiasts since I didn't find it described that easy when I was looking myself.

Thank you for all the replies. I was able to figure out how map files work so I have that going on at least. I can make due with setting other versions of MAME as emulators and then creating a group and fixing the names in MAP. But it would be a great feature to be able to simply add more than one MAME exe and more than one ROM path to the main gameex install. I think allot of really good themes get unused because of this because many of them focus on only running a base MAME. I had to wade through several till I found one that worked great with my unconventional setup. Is there a way I can request a feature like that? A certain email address? Right now im struggling with videos and might make another topic if I cant figure it out. My old FLV files dont want to play in gameex but the MP4 ones I download to emu movies work just fine. Tried shark 007 codecs and its seemed to cause more problems then solved so I uninstalled it. Those codecs have malware in them by the way so I kinda think its a bad idea to have them linked to in the Gameex setup. Maybe because I got VLC installed, maybe my codecs are wrong or maybe my files are just corrupt. Tried converting the FLV to MP4 and the play fine on my PC but Gameex doesnt like them for some reason. Im going to change the title of this thread as a general help thread for my project and people can respond if they know the answer and want to help out. All help or suggestions are appreciated and thanks for being a great community!

Thanks for the response, but I kinda want a clean setup where when friends come over they can just walk up to the cabinet and find their favorite game to play and not have to manually change file path locations names. It seems odd that this would not be a feature in Gameex as one of its main purposes is to create a streamline front end to run all your emulators. And as we know one of the biggest challenges with MAME is that every release seems to fix or improve several games while breaking several more. It just kinda seems like a common sense feature that should be included. Any info on how to change the names? Im guessing I got to create a database file somehow and then associate it with my MAME that is in my emulator list. Again thanks!

Well Im rebuilding my mame cabinet with a better PC after my original one was on a laptop and not very reliable. I decided to start from scratch because I learned allot on the first one and the second time around I am trying to do a much cleaner setup. My one issue though is getting multiple versions of mame to work with gameex. I understand you got your main mame in gameex and if you want to add a different version of mame you set it up in emulators. But there are several problems with that. No icons, rom names show up as game names and no way to change it, having to manually edit in information. Can someone help me out and point me to a good resource that will allow me to run multiple versions of mame without having to set one up as an emu? Perhaps one that isnt written in a way that assumes Ive done this before and therefore leaves out steps? Any help would be much appreciated.

So...trying to figure out auto hotkey...there sure is allot of stuff you can do with it...allot of stuff. I guess I should have listened better in computer science III right? May I make a suggestion that gameex give users a easy keyboard remap option that works with individual emulators or program groups in the future? lol

The x-arcade tank stick does output key presses. I bought xpadder yesterday and was going to try and set it up today but went to check my message first and when you said that my heart just sank. So I guess I just wasted $10 eh? crap Ill look into your suggestions hopefully I can get this dog to hunt

Hi all! I was wondering if someone could suggest to me simple keyboard remapping program I can use with gameex. I got a tankstick in my cab and anyone familiar with the tankstick knows that the controls for it are mapped to the keyboard. Only problem is certain emulators only work with certain control schemes which means I have to currently flip dip switches to make it work with certain emulators and programs. Thats a total hassle because this thing is mounted in my cabinet and X-Arcade in their infinite wisdom decided to mount the dip switches on the BACK of the tankstick meaning I half to pull the entire control panel out, flip the switch to change controls then wedge it back in there. Is there a simple keymapper I can tell gameex to launch so I can avoid physically flipping the switches on the tankstick and then have it just temporarily reassign keys and then close when I exit the game? So like say I launch my taito collection from gameex the insert coin button maps to f1 rather then 1 and then goes back to 1 when I exit? I dont mine paying money for the program either as long as it suits my needs. Appreciate any and all suggestions!

Some pretty dope suggestions. Im going to get myself a terrabyte external drive (and a 2600-daptor and some paddle controllers for my cabinet) on payday and get on it. Also how do you get those sweet signatures that share your last run game on gameex?

Free? Free is nice. Do you just have it create a backup to another harddrive? I was almost considering purchasing carbinite but was not entirely sure if it was what I needed. Ive been horrible with creating back ups of my pcs in the past but after a recent scare ive decided to do something about it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just looking for some suggestions or instruction from users as to how they back up all their hard work. What tools or software do you use or recommend? What parts of gameex do you make sure to always keep a recorded copy of in the case of virus or hardrive failure? Whats the easiest way to always ensure your work is protected from the unexpected?

Well Gameex stopped hanging now for no apparent reason. So thats cool...I guess. Later when someone browse the forums with the same problem my advice would be to just grab a beer and walk away until Gameex becomes self aware and fixes the problem on its own.
