? for all.

I've been trying several 5200 emulators and have yet to find one that I like. Just curious what others are using with GameEx? I am currently using Atari800 for 5200 emulation and have tried M.E.S.S in the past but alot of games don't work with M.E.S.S.

I use MESS and haven't really encountered any ROMs that don't run correctly, but admittedly I don't play that emulator too much (aside from Popeye and Frogger).

If you could provide a list of games that don't run in MESS on your machine, I'd be happy to try them out and see if they work for me or not.

lol what a coincidence this just happened to me a few days ago!.I was using mess for 5200 but tried playing joust and found out it does not work in mess.neither does asteroids, and a few others.and according to the mess svn log,it seems that system is in limbo.so i tried them all and i have to say that kat5200 kicks ass.it plays ALL roms, and supports voice in berzerk, something else mess does not do

Looks nice! I'll be replacing MESS with this tomorrow. Could you save me a minute and post your emulator config? I'll forward it to Tom and we can add it in to the Import Emulator function too (currently all that's there is MESS afaik).

While we're on the subject of MESS inferiority, what do you use for Intellevision? MESS won't run games that use the voice chip for me either.

+1 for kat5200 for 5200 and Bliss for Intellivision. My sources indicate for these to be the suggested emulators for these systems. Emulation sites guys! Best sources for this stuff! ;)

What is your command line for Kat5200 in GameEx?

I might combine Kat5200 and Atari800 within GameEx as some games run much better under Atari800 like Missile Command as it uses the mouse via the command line -mouse joy not sure if Kat5200 has that feature or not, but Joust will run under Kat5200 and not under Atari800 so that is why I will use them both I think and configure each game accordingly and Group the emulators in GameEx.

What is your command line for Kat5200 in GameEx?

I don't personally use this emulator but the command-line seems pretty straight forward. Just read the General-Usage.html file included in the doc folder of this emulator. Seems that it's simple.

kat5200.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

This should work just fine and setup the emulator to go fullscreen as well as any other options. I just downloaded to read the help file for ya but haven't completely tested. Not sure if zipped roms are supported. If not then use zip support in GameEx. Users of this emulator will have more info on this. Just giving the basics.

freq is correct that command line works fine for kat5200.and yes i use bliss for intellivision, since it supports more games then mess, and it also supports voice in b-17 bomber!

to get full screen with kat,you have to set the options in the emulator.in other words, set up up fully outside of GameEX.and no,the roms have to be unzipped, and in the .rom format

sorry for the delayed response Adultery,I fell asleep @ 9:15 last night

I use GoodMerge on my A5200 sets, so GameEx extracts them before I launch. This should not be a problem for me. :)

It's next to try and set this up on my machine, as I just finished SSF 0.12 Beta, and I have family coming over today to play. I'll report back if I have any problems. :)

Thanks so much mesk and Freq, you guys rawk!

.:EDIT:. I need help quick...

All my roms are in .a52 format. Can I convert them so they run in Kat?

Have you tried running them that way? When I tested last night, I was able to run mine which are in .a52 format as well. Just not zipped as I mentioned. I was using my No-Intro set. So renaming them may not be required.

It may have just been the game I tried. Dig Dug popped up a CPU crash error when I tried to run it (strangely MESS runs this particular ROM just fine). I'll test further.

I tried renaming the previously mentioned ROM after changing the extension to .rom instead of .a52, but again it may just be this ROM. I'll get a set that's not GoodMerged and try again.

Could just be that it's time for me to find a NoIntro set.

I have no intro 5200.goodsets had way to many hacks.no need for 10 versions of "carol shaws river raid",not at all :)

Adultery,you have a pm! :)

UPDATE.frequency is correct,I changed my roms back to .a52 format and they did work, but I had to change the bios back to .rom because it would not load in .a52 strange......

My bios is already 5200.rom... Maybe this was a problem all along? What did you have it at before?

I guess that wouldn't make sense anyways since I tried running them as a52 with 5200.rom so theoretically it should have worked.

@mesk: Thanks bud! ;)

I tried with it with the 5200.rom since that's what it was first asking for. I never tried just pointing to the bios in it's conventional name with the .a52 extension. And I tried it with a rom that had the .a52 extension and it ran just fine.

Just wanted to add a +1 to this thread. This emulator is easily the best so far for 5200, and I'm glad you told me about it. Slowly MESS is on it's way out, with Bliss being next on the install list, followed by Stella, and ParaJVE for Vectrex. Only thing MESS is emulating on my cab now is Colecovision, and I may replace that if I find something that runs the games better than this.

This is why I love this community! :)

Have you had any luck with Virtual Colecovision, Colem, BlueMSX or MEKA?

I actually use mess for coleco & 7800 and a few other obscure consoles and for those systems it works well.it was working well for 2600 until i tried loading a starpath game.....now I have stella for 2600 :)

I've had luck with BlueMSX for Colecovision. This was awhile ago as I only played one game (memories from childhood) on it. I had great results with it but just use MESS for it now. My sources recommend BlueMSX and MEKA as the top emulators for this system. NONMESS suggests that they run fine in MESS so depends on the features you want and the luck with certain roms I guess. Best to try those out and see what you like!

Can anyone help me get kat5200 to go fullscreen.Ive tryed everything in the video options best i could do is get it fullscreen but in 4:3 so i have to strech the screen with my tv remote. even when i check mark the widescreen box doesnt help. most emulators let me strech the image to fullscreen without using the tv remote. i have a 52" 1080p lcd (if that matters). thanks guys

Hi.

I have this set up on my WS monitor but it's still "in a box" as it were. I don't think it's really possible to stretch the image that way within the emulator.
