gimpper Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 My PSX games are in CDZ format. Gameex will load a complete list but there is no information for any of them loaded. I did some searches and found out about the PSX renamer and found a version of that but it doesn't recognize my files in CDZ and skips them. My question is, what format should the file names be in to get the descriptions to populate? I can get the numbers associated with each game and manually input them if necessary once I know a working combination for a name. Or is there some other way around this?
DJoneK Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I believe the PSX Database was started but never finished. I opened it once and it only contained info about just a few titles, so of course nothing will show up on most of them. Don't know what happened with the team that was working on them.
Adultery Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Well the big problem is that afaik no naming convention currently exists for them, or rather, no decent database that can be scraped, which uses whatever naming convention is being used for psx sets. I honestly am not sure if there is any kind of TOSEC or NoIntro dat, and if there is, I haven't seen one anywhere (but I haven't googled it in quite awhile).Does the renamer use a dat I can look at?
gimpper Posted May 31, 2011 Author Posted May 31, 2011 Adultery, I attached the section from the file dbase.psx that relates to renaming US PSone games. There is no .dat file if that is what you were actually asking. I tried to find the Renamer because a thread on this forum where someone was told to use it for this same reason. DJoneK, I found the thread (from way back when) about the Database Project where it is shown that at the time PSX was mostly unfinished:http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=5765So like you said it might not be worthwhile although there seem to be a decent number of games in the Sony Playstation.mdb file provided with GameEx. Do you know if renaming these will help? I tried the website you linked me to and brought up a list of the games, what naming scheme works for these? Do you know if it's just a matter of me using *.cdz files?modified.txt
Adultery Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Actually yes, you can modify the mdb file in MS Access if you have it. Just make sure one of the fields has the same naming as your CDZ files and you should be just fine. If you need any help, we're here for ya.At this time it would probably work out better to do manual entries for your PSX games, until either Moby Games or a similar site can be scraped for these titles, or someone tediously goes game by game off of a DAT and makes an "official" MDB. As a matter of fact, if you wanted to do some edits, it would be cool if you would share it so we can add things to the current db.
gimpper Posted June 1, 2011 Author Posted June 1, 2011 Thanks a lot for your reply, I'll see how a few of them go.
