I'm still stumbling through all of the options in GameEx, but haven't figured this one out yet.

When the attract/screensaver begins, the rom starts by showing sound, video, cpu, etc info... but doesn't continue on to the game. Is there a way to get past this? I had to totally reinstall GameEx this month, and when I had it running before I never had this problem... even with the same games.

Thanks

Not sure I follow... The ROM check for the actual mobo of the game is hanging on you? GameEx shouldn't show any kind of interface for launching attract mode other than the info bezel at the bottom. Can you post your log after this happens?

Ok I'll get a log in a sec. In the meantime, I attached a picture of what shows up. It shows for nearly every game and won't proceed to the game until I hit enter. So during attract, it just sits there because no one is hitting enter.

Also separate question. Many games when I play them show the marque on the top and another banner on the bottom... effectively shrinking viewing screen. See image. I realize I'm probably missing something simple...

Oh ok... Problem #1 is a disclaimer screen. The best way to bypass this is to compile your own MAME version. If this isn't an option for you, Tempest made a proggy that creates a cfg for each MAME game so this screen doesn't pop up. GameEx used to send OK automatically but I've been using a custom compile for so long I'm not sure it's still an option. If it were it would be in the config under 'Advanced MAME Settings' second or third from the top.

#2 is related to the new GameExtender features I believe. You can set it up to only show the marquee if that's what you're after. I'll be happy to help with that if you let me know what you want it to show up there.

Ok I think I fixed some of it. First of all, the disclaimer screen was already set to bypass in the GameEx setup. But I added "skip_gameinfo" to the MAME command line and that took care of it... bypasses it.

As for that marque thing (second image above), I can't find anything in GameExtender that may turn this off. GameExtender is set to off as it is. I would like nothing to show up... just the game full screen. It only happens to some games. Metal Slug 6 is full screen game... no marque or anything. MK3 has stuff top and bottom.

Thanks for the help!

If you want MAME to display on both screens you can add the following to the command line:

numscreens 2

That tells the EXE to mirror screen 1 to monitor 2 unless it's a multi screen game anyways.

If you have it set to show on a secondary monitor in GameEx it will.

Hmm... I think we are talking about something different. I am only using one screen.

I open a game through GameEx and instead of the game going full screen on my monitor, it is small, with the game marque showing on the top of the screen. That's the image I posted. But like I said, it doesn't happen with all games. I feel like it's just a setting I'm missing.

Wait, so you have only one screen and it does this? Hmm... Anyone ever seen this happen before?

I think you need to post your GameEx log after this happens.

Still working through it, but it seems to be a thing with the ROM itself... outside of GameEx. Some ROMs have marques on them and others don't. It's kind of annoying because this wasn't the case with the old batch I used to have.

Figured it out! In the MAME.ini file, I had to change "use_backdrops" to 0 and "use_bezels" to 0. Took care of it. Full screen games.

Thank you so much for the help Adultery!

No problem. :)

I didn't know this was even a feature, maybe it's only in that version of MAME instead of vanilla. Marking as [RESOLVED]. :)

It's a feature in vanilla as well!
