I recently discovered Gamex frontend for mame and I was wondering how exactly I can use romlister generated xml or whichever list I need to output on gameex. I saw the tutorial for romlister but I dont know what or which file I need to modify either in mame or gamex so that it only displays the games from my romlister list. help?

You have a couple choices really. The easiest thing to do is use the filters in GameEx rather than using RomLister. GameEx can potentially generate the list that you want directly. If you are looking to do something more complicated (like picking only trackball games for example), you can have RomLister export a MAME32 compatible list and use that in GameEx. Perhaps you could describe what you want to do in a little more detail so we can get you set up with the better option.

Im basically making a filtered list of games in romlister then after its made that list I delete even some that make that list. For example in Mame after Ive made my list in romlister I delete all the playchoice games as well as all the MK games as an example before I export the list to an xml file. I also delete all the games I know my pc cant handle.

So you plan on using the list to delete games from the computer (delete games not in the list)? If so, you don't actually need to have the list for GameEx at all. If you delete the games you don't want, which results in a directory containing only games you do want, you can have GameEx display only existing games.

So, use RomLister to generate your list of games you want to remove (you can make a batch file with RomLister to do this automatically if you want). Then, turn on the filter in GameEx for "validate roms". This will run each rom through a check to verify it will work with the version of MAME you are using. It will also remove games that don't exist.

Does that work, or do you want to do things a different way? Anything is possible if we know how you want to do things!
