zincgui is a frontend for zinc. It does not have CLI. GameEx is one of the few frontends I know of that of that makes it run natively. So you have 2 options. Use GameEx's integration of zinc or setup as a stand-alone emulator. Zincgui is basically good for setting up the way you want but after that is done, you need to get the correct command-line settings to make those settings work. ZiNc is without a doubt, the most PITA emulator of all. LOL. Let us know what you desire and then we'll go from there or point you in the right direction. There's lots of topics of ZiNc in the forums. I really think we need a tutorial on it. I'll write one up someday.

I'm hoping by the time I get to installing and setting up zinc the emulation in MAME will be on par with it so I won't have to deal with it. Just reading these forums the past few weeks is enough to, almost, scare me off.

I have zincgui working and the games work fine, i have installed it as an emulator on its own in gameex loaded the zincmap and put all the roms in they all work outside of gameex an in gameex the only problem is when i select a game from gameex menu for example dead or alive ( DOA ) gameex shows the zincgui with the games listed if i click doa it loads the rom and playes perfectly when i press ESC it goes back to gameex perfectly, so how do i pass getting the zincgui showing after i have selected a game from the gameex menu? as frequency mentioned it must be a case of getting the command line correct but what it is? My command line is :

zincgui.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -use-config-file=zinc.cfg.

if it means i have to select the game twice i can live with that cos everythink elseworks a treat. SM

my desire is to be able to select a game from gameex and it run without it showing the zincgui games available list and me having to select it again from that. All other parts work fine the esc back to gameex works fine.

Not gonna work with zincgui unless they recently changed it. It didn't have a CLI as I mentioned. You need to use it just to setup zinc and then use zinc to run the roms. Not zincgui.

In other words, you would use zinc.exe not zincgui.exe to run your games through GameEx.

So I'm assuming you running as a standalone emulator? If so then what's your command-line? Using as a standalone will take some tweaking to get it to work.

Take it from me,you are much better off using the gameex integrated zinc support,I had all sorts of issues trying to use it as a separate emu.use aldo's gui to setup controls.the integrated support shows all the games,i couldnt get all games to show as a standalone.trust me,I have spent more time (and Freq has spent more time helping me)troubleshoot zinc ;)

What kind of problems? What do you have so far? Don't give up!

We can always troubleshoot by chat or by remote access. It get's kind of hard to go back and forth in the forums because we can't see exactly what's going on. So if you give up then that's up to you but if you want to try to get it going then let me know. ;)

I would love to get things going but after a long day at work ( 1 do 11 hour shifts :( ) i kind loose concentration after a bit lol ! at the moment im using the in build zinc i think maybe its just a case of getting the command line right ive tryed zinc.exe followed by various things ! i get the list of games as ive downloaded your latest zinc.map when i select plat this game gameex goes away for a few seconds then just returns to the play this game screen any ideas as to what command line i should be using ?

and to another as you seem to be "the man" to ask lol ive download demul as i wanna play naomi games like 18 wheeler doa racing games etc... but cant get it run keeps saying unable to find `erp-21576d-bin` in romset `naomi` ? any ideas?

If it's doing that then it is definitely a problem with the command-line. Now the command-line can vary so hard to say exactly as I don't know what you've done so far. Please export your config and post the results here so that I can have a look.

This just means that you don't have the necessary roms to run those games. Best to build your romset to match the version you're trying to run with a rom manager like rom manager or clrmamepro.

do you mean the gameex config in gameex/config ?

I mean your emulator config. You are trying to run as a standalone emulator now right? Since you mentioned that you are using a map file then that would be the case. If using as a standalone emulator then please post your emulator config. Instructions on how to do so can be found in the guide by Tempest found

That will work too. Just more info that I need to look for. LOL. Change your command-line from:

zinc.exe

To:

zinc.exe [rom] --renderer=.\renderer.znc

This is assuming that you have the renderer.znc file in the same directory as the ZiNc emulator.

Since I'm on now and you're on, you can meet me in the chat room for real time support. Click on the chat tab found on the top of the forums.
