I was just wondering if there are any advantages of using other emulators for specific games outside of MAME. I'm aware that the emulation is generally better, but is it noticeably better? I did a forum search and the last topic I found relating directly to this question was nearly 5 years old. Is there still a benefit from setting up Model 2 to run Daytona USA, for example, over running it through MAME?

Thanks,

KK

Last I checked most of the model 2 games still didnt work in mame, and the model 2 emulator uses 3d acceleration and was last updated last month :) As far as zinc, I have not tracked how much better it is than mame lately, but model 2 i can speak for for sure. Also demul 0.5.6 for atomiswave and naomi is untouchable by mame.

Thanks, Circo. I'm in the process of tweaking my setup after having it run without problems for the last few months. So far all we've been playing are older games that don't tax the computer as much. I wanted to start getting into newer games that run on Model 2 and Naomi and you've confirmed for me that it is worth the time involved to setup.

I would agree with Circo. Many roms are unplayable in MAME. Usually anything unplayable will be listed in MAME and an alternative emulator will be listed for that rom over at MAWS.

As a good reference, I usually take a look at NonMAME for some information about which emulators run what rom best. This site lists the emulators that run a particular rom better than MAME.

Here's a quote from the site (first line):

NonMAME is the definitive source for all known arcade emulators that either support games that are not in MAME, or provide better emulation of games that are in MAME.

I find this to be very informative and I use it as a reference all the time to know which emulator to use to make my system have a higher working count of roms. Have a look! Hope it proves to be useful to you! Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks fRequEnCy!...im going to start using that too as i have 8900+ roms and lot are either total rubbish ( could use a harsher work but respect stops me lol ) or unemulated, run very slow or arnt emulated correctly so by using nonmame i should be able to tweek away...looks like im in for a few rather LONG late weeks ahead !

Thanks ! SM

I do know that while MAME is catching up to zinc, and games like tekken, soul blade are running better on MAME,zinc still plays them better as of now.and Circo already mentioned that model 2 was just updated
