Where are the control panels stored in MAME, GameEx please? Not the cabinet pictures but the images of what buttons do what on each game please?

Posted

i have tried using cpwizard but this looks like it runs in the background for ingame menus, whereas gameex does this already. and I want to display the panel buttons before the game starts (from within gameex game info page)

Any suggestions?

It must get the image from somewhere?

The image is in the THEMES\Theme you're using\MEDIA folder of your GameEx install. The image is named ControlPanel.png. And I believe setting up the labels for it is done by using the theme editor. I've never tinkered with it myself so one of our Theme makers would have more input on that.

You need the controls.dat, update your gamelist and enable the control panel viewer in gameex.

You can't customize the built in GameEx CP image. To have a customized CP you'd need to use CPW or something equivalent.

GameEx supports launching CPW before a game, type 'CPWizard' into the SetupWizard's search to find the options.

GameEx does also support your own Control panels without CPWizard, but it's not nearly as flexible... If you turn on the view control panels within GameEx, and define the ControlPanelPath=<path>, you can place the an control panel image for each game you want (using the same game base filename). I believe that if you do not have a image file, NO image is displayed.

CPWizard can generate CP images for your MAME games so that should also work if you don't want to run CPWizard in the background.

thanks. i have downloaded cpwizard and had a play. works well. how do i link it to gameex and how do i change the images shown. I am ok with the MAME button configs but my image for the buttons is slightly different then the mame ones, so the wording is out slightly for each button.

i have 4 fire buttons whereas the mame image had 6 buttons.

i want to create a template in cpwizard with the 4 buttons (which i have done) but what do i name the buttons, etc so that the mame controls.ini picks them up correctly please?

or even better if i were to use mame controls.ini via Gameex, how can i change the location of the text shown for each button. I just need to tweak this rather than create more work for myself :)

i believe i have edited the main control jpeg file - thanks for the help.

but the wording is slightly out still, how can i change this, is there a setting somewhere within mame to change the location of the text display for the controls. i have looked at controls.ini but this just states the text to be shown rather than the location, as the text is in the same position for all game panels, it must be a global setting somewhere?
