I could use some advice getting VP and tables working with GameEX. Would some kind soul please chime in and help me get started please :)

You have VP installed and running or do you also need advice of setting up visual pinball?

Also the instructions here are a little dated. You'll need to get VP9 if you don't have it already.

Here's a good place to get you started: http://www.pinballnirvana.com/

And if you have VP 9.08 installed,it is simple, just use the commandline:

vpinball908.exe -play -"[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

And you're ready to rock (don't forget to download medieval madness, the greatest pinball table ever...)

Thanks guys for the replys. I have latest VP9 with latest pinmame working manually and was wondering if GameEX can launch everything while all the files stay zipped. I am a registered user btw. Will do some testing now.

OK FP works but cannot get VP or pinmame to launch tables correctly. I select a table in GameEX interface and it puts me back to the GameEX menu after choosing a table.

However, running VPinball909.exe manually and opening a table then clicking play makes pinmame correctly

My command line runs in the tables dorectory like this:

Working Path: C:\PinMAME\Tables

Command line is: ..\vpinball.exe -play -"[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

You'll have to alter yours based on this. My vpinball exe is also not vpinball908.exe but yours might be?

I also use Tom's VP Loader in the Also Launch field to skip the first screens that ask if I can legally play this table.

Thank you Adultery for posting. Could you please post your .ini because I have everything you mention except I think, but it doesn't work. Maybe you can spot problem in mine?

GameEX will launch table and put my in the VP GUI, but always says loading error which allows me to click OK with mouse and then in the VP GUI I can manually open and load a table just fine :(

Also, do you happen to know a way to make the keys for VP to a joypad?

Hi my ini is the same and works except..

Command=VPinball909.exe -play -"[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

instead of

Command=VPinball909.exe -play -"[ROMFILE]"

Hope this sorts it for you.

Ps save yourself some time and get all the roms and tables in one go from ***, and use the pleasure extractor to um well extract your tables!

Also do you keep your tables in the ROMs folder? That should be reserved from VPinMAME ROMs not tables.

If you do, your working path needs to be that folder instead of the Tables folder, and if not you should put your tables folder in the root VP folder to save some confusion.

Finally, throw a ../ before the command line and try it. ;)

Thanks rockyrocket, That fixed everything and tables work now :) Thank you so much for the fix.

I love **** and have the same username over on that site :)

Now to get all the Artwork sorted and possibly figuring out how to set keys to my joypad.

Thanks guys so much for helping me get this fixed, I really appreciate it :) sorry

You can use the mapper in GameEx to do the key mapping if you're a registered user

Posted

Yes I'm registered users and thank you for the reply :)

Can you explain how I access this mapper and will it only take effect when launching VP from the GameEX menu? because that is what I'm interested in.

*** after unzipping all the files in G:\Pinballs\Visual PinMAME (2008-08-24)\Tables

I'm a bit overwhelmed. What is the best way to organize all the .jpg's and stuff so GameEX can make the most use of it?

Thanks very much guys for your continued help and support. Very much appreciated :) sorry

Guys! Please refrain from mentioning these sites and how roms are obtained in the future. It is against forum rules. That's 3 edits in one topic. Not a good thing. Please read the rules.

Sorry Frequency... ;)

To map your keys, just go into the emulator setup and go to "Advanced Config". Select one and edit it. The second tab is joystick mapping I believe. Make your changes and save it to something you'll remember. Then enable it in the emulator.

The second tab does not let me use joystick imput :( I'm not sure why that is.

I just wanna map 5 or 6 keyboard keys to my joypad for Visual pinball and I can't figure this out.

When all else fails, there's always Joy2Key! ;)

AWESOME!!!!!!! It works great with GameEX and VP9. You're a star :)

Now I just need to figure out how to get a gamer tag sig that shows what I'm currently playing and I will be set.

Thanks so much for your help.

That's the easy part! Just go to www.gameex.com and click get a gamer tag. Can't wait to see what you're playing!
