Possible screen saver bug?

Hi Tom,

I just upgraded to version 5.30. After launching a game and remaining in a sub-menu (i.e. favorites) the screen saver will not function properly. GameEx goes to a black screen and then returns to GameEx. I noticed this on a couple earlier versions too.

Seems the screen saver only functions properly from a fresh launch of GameEx?

Works fine for me. Are you using MAME32FX by any chance? I've noticed things like that when using that version. Switching to another build solved my problem.

There's now more logging in the screensaver, so your log might shed some light..

Ok I'll get a log to you sometime friday night. I am using MAME32 1.0.2.

I'm using Mame32FX, I'll see if I get the same problem..

EDIT: Ok, I launched a game from favourites.. quit the game, then waited... and the screensaver came up ok.

Hmm strange, I upgraded to MAME32 1.02.4 and it seems to have "fixed" the issue. I swear it was happening!

Nope! It's back! Immediately after the screen saver launches, I keep getting this line repeated many times in the log:

Key/Joy press detected: Exiting Attract mode: 1B:27

But I am not pressing any keys. Could the "ok" command youâ??re sending through be triggering this?

Could you turn off the bypass setting to confirm thats the issue.

I am seeing the same issue. I upgraded from 5.25 to 5.31 and used your sheller program to hide everything. Since then the screensaver does the exact thing user boboss does. I will try the bypass setting as well.

Confirmed in 5.32 also.

With Bypass Disclaimer/Warnings disabled in both GameEx and MAME32 this is still occurring.

Same problem for me. bobross are you using instant sheller to hide everything? I upgraded from 5.25 and used instant sheller and that is when I lost the attract/screensaver fuctionality. I am not certain if it is related to one or the other or both.

Just to clarify, I did disable/bypass the warnings and it still does not work correctly.

Hey Jefadams,

I did install instant sheller a while back... I didin't like it so I un-install it. Maybe it left some reg keys behind? Sounds about around the time I started having the screen saver issues.

I'll run a reg clean when I get home.

Well I ran EasyCleaner to get rid of any reg keys, still the same problem. This is strange because after the initial power up, the screen savers work. It's just when you start any game it creates this situation.

Hmmm something interesting here... Jefadams do you have your ESC key rigged to an actual arcade button?

I think that was causing this problem. I unconnected my ESC button and the screen saver works fine now.
