I was just browing arcadecontrols, and came upon a quote that got me thinking. Perhaps this is the cause for the adult games not showing up since I updated my catlist.ini file?

I can answer this one (sorta)  are you using catver.ini or triggerfin's catver.ini.  The categories are different but tirggerfin's is far superior as the game cats are more detailed and accurate.  In the official catver the adult tag is "adult" (it's never accurate btw and often misses several adult games)  but in the catlist it's a normal category with a "*mature*" tacked on the end.

Yep, that would be it. GameEx looks for "*Mature*" to identify adult games.

vibez: according to the docs, the version we should be using is from http://www.mameworld.net/catlist/

Tom: I'm still trying a few things to get the Adult games working. This time I deleted the entire DATA directory, re-installed GameEx to re-create the default DATA directory and then did an "Update List". Exited GameEx and re-started to rebuild the icon cache (BTW perhaps that should be done during "Update List"?)

Okay, still nothing in Adult..

Here is some strange errors in my log file

20:12:39.7  15/12/2005:  MAME Path is: D:\Games\Mame32

20:12:39.7  15/12/2005:  ZiNc Path is: D:\Games\ZiNc

20:12:39.7  15/12/2005:  ZiNc EXE file is: zinc.exe

20:12:39.7  15/12/2005:  Use ZiNc on. zinc.exe will launch PSX games

20:12:39.7  15/12/2005:  MAME EXE file is: mame32FXp4.exe

20:12:39.7  15/12/2005:  ROM Path is: D:\Games\Mame32\roms

20:12:39.7  15/12/2005:  Catver.ini Not Found

20:12:39.7  15/12/2005:  controls.ini is located at: C:\Program Files\GameEx\data\controls.ini

20:12:39.7  15/12/2005:  History.Dat Not Found

20:12:39.7  15/12/2005:  nplayers.ini Not Found

20:12:39.7  15/12/2005:  MAMEinfo.Dat Not Found

It says it can't find Catver.ini, History.Dat etc. yet they are both available in my Mame32 and GameEx\DATA folder as you can see from the attached images. Do these errors indicate why the Adult category is not being generated. BTW I'm using the latest catver.ini file from the above link which uses *Mature* to identify them.

Not sure why gameex is not finding the files, but I tested adult games with the latest GameEx version, and the 'included' files in the install. I deleted the data by using the new admin feature, and updated the list. Still works fine for me.

Ok, got it sorted. The paths to the ini files were wrong because I thought they were relative to the Mame32 directory, not the GameEx directory!
