Ninja Rygar Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I have a problem with Playstation roms that use CD audio tracks for the music. Each audio track is saved as a .ape file and is usually followed by "(Track XX)" in the filename. It seems my emulator (pSX) does not recognize these. So what do I do? I do not have this problem with roms that are just a .bin and a .cue.Some games like Wipeout, Tomb Raider, and others, have tons of these .ape files. Do they need to be converted or something?

Do they need to be converted or something? The emulator doesn't support that audio format so yes they will need to be converted but there may be problems when converting. Try converting to a known working format or redump using a known technique. Information about this issue can be found searching APE file in PSX emulator through google. Those topics will not be linked here because of some of it's content and it breaking rules of the forums.
Tom Speirs Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 This should really be posted in the general forum.

Ninja Rygar Posted October 5, 2010 Author Posted October 5, 2010 I got it. I'll bring any emulator questions here in the general forum. In any case, I still can't get the cd audio to work. I tried using a program that converts them to .bin files which is what was suggested, but it still doesn't work. I tried using an audio program to convert them to .wavs and that doesn't work... there's GOT to be a way to get this emulator to recognize these tracks.

The easiest solution would be to redump these images and not use the ape extension for audio files. Past that it's hard to give support on such a subject because if this can't be done then it's because of the use of illegal content. Another may be of more use but that's the only support I personally will give on such a subject.PM Sent!

I had a similar problem with Ridge Racer and Wipeout not playing audio. Just set the filter to .ccd and those games played just fine with audio.

I'm going to try my hand at dumping games myself, I've never done it before.I don't have any .ccd files, just .cue and .bin. I'm going to try mounting the .cue files which seems to solve the problem! Just need to figure out a working command line for GameEx.
Adultery Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 You can load cue files in pSX. I just rename the cue files and set that as my ROM filter. Sending the usual command line ( psx.exe "[ROMPath]/[ROMfile]" ) should work just fine as pSX supports bin/cue naturally.Just remember you can change the name of the cue file but you need the bin file to be named as it was when you ripped it. Else you can make a MAP file like I do for my SEGA CD bin/cue files (which involves a little more effort but looks quite nice in the list).Or you can compress your bin/cue files into pSX compatable files by using the GUI. It actually saves a good deal of space this way if you decide to go that route.
DJoneK Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) His problem is with CDDA tracks. He seems to have his images with separate files for each track, so in order to properly play those on an emulator, he either needs to redump them as a single file, merge them into a single bin/cue, or mount the image on a virtual drive and run that drive from the emulator. Current PSX emulators dont natively load multi-file cuesheets. Edited August 17, 2012 by Draco1962 This thread is now closed. If the problem re-occurs, please start a new thread.
