I have a bunch of external applications(mainly PC games) loaded up as custom menu items. What I would like to do is have a preview video play when highlighted in much the same way as you can set up when browsing the MAME game list. I have a few FRAPS snaps ready. Is this possible or am I in the wrong here?

Also, apologies if this is a dupe. I couldn't find an answer after several searches via both Google and the forum search, but then again, I wasn't quite sure what to search for.

Wow, the forum search tool did turn up my question almost exactly, but on the 13th(!) page of the search "animated logos". Hopefully this'll bump it.

Yes! Very possible. Just simply point to them in setup. Dohhhh. Looks like you beat me to it. Glad you found the solution.
