Help needed to make the LCD/LED plugh-in work with MameInterop

Dear forum

On http://headsoft.com.au/index.php?category=mame is stated that the GameEx plugh-inn "LCD/LED plugh inn. ver. 2.86" supports the use of MameInterop! I want to combine the benefits of using this feature. But how is this done?

I have the MameInterop SDK installed, but no idea of how to make it work togehter with the LCD/LED plugh-inn.

Came anyone give me some advice or maybe a link. Anything that would help me would be appreciated.

Regards

You don't need the MameInterop SDK as it's built into the plugin already. The file it uses to communicate with mame is MAME.dll which is already included.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Honestly, I spent a LOT of time trying to make the most of this feature and I don't think it was worthwhile. There just aren't enough games that actually support features other than flashing the start button to justify worrying about it. After Burner II and Chase HQ are about the only games where this really adds a nice effect if done right.

My goal was to use the bebefits of MameInterop, such as have the LEDs flashing when coins are neeeded and the flashing player buttons when coins have been added and so on. Is this complicated and is it posssible thrugh the LCD/LED plugh-In?

When using LCD/LED plught in, can I then have the coin and player buttons to flash when needed?

As per the MameInterop SDK ReadMe.txt

These are total approximations for Mame 0.111

- 1477 ROMs support led outputs

- 33 ROMs support lamp outputs

- 31 ROMs support digit outputs

While there are not alot of games supporting outputs there is still a worthwhile number. I know that Howard Casto recently added a few games but it's obviously not a high priority for the Mame dev's to add outputs.

PlugInLCD allows you to assign buttons for LEDs, Lamps and Digit outputs. By default they are send to the coin buttons so when you play a game like DigDug for example the buttons will flash when you insert a coin.

Very nice. I can see that the player 1 and 2 buttons flash after inserting "coins" :)

But is it possible to flash the coin button when coins are neeeded, or does it only support the player buttons ?

And finaly what is the difference between LED, lamps and digital output? When is what used and where?

Many thanks for you help, so fare

The buttons will only flash for arcade games that had that feature in the Arcade. The video game Tempest had two cone shaped start buttons, with lights built into them. Drop in a quarter, and the Player 1 button would flash. Drop in a second quarter, and both Player 1, and Player 2 would flash. I don't believe that Mame Dev will ever make it anything other than whatever the original games intended.

I believe that what what Headkaze meant was LEDs (Light emitting diodes), Lamps (Normal bulb type lights), and Digits (a panel that would show a digit 0-9)

Sorry HK, I hope you didn't take my post as minimizing your efforts, that wasn't my intention.
