Hi all I was wondering if anyone could give me a little help on zinc configuration.....under the advance mame options there is a option to use zinc instead of mame for certain games...my question is where do the zinc roms supposed to go?cause it seems that when i choose the games that are supposed to be run by zinc, they are started with mame....thanks in advance....M

If you use the built in Zinc support, GameEx will force the roms to be in your MAME folder. That is bad IMO since MAME has redumped many roms since the last version of Zinc was released. I keep my Zinc roms in a different folder, but that means I can't use the built-in support. Check out the mameemumap.ini file. It will allow you to set zinc up as an emulator (and control where you want files located) yet still appear to be linked in with MAME. All your games will then load seamlessly. Good luck!

i actually tried both,i tried the advances mame setup and also i tried configuring as a seperate emulator....thing is i cant get it to launch games out of gameex, when i try a command line i always get"error missing rom files"when i know for a fact i have all the roms plus bios.....i hate command line emulators, they are a thing of the past and should remain there

If using GameEx's ZiNc integration then the path will be assigned by GameEx and will point to the MAME roms path. If using as a stand alone emulator then you need to use the correct parameters needed to run the rom. Something along the lines of:

ZiNc.exe ----roms-directory="[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" --renderer=.\renderer.znc

Most emulators are command-line driven. It's how they work. It's how GameEx makes them run. Not a thing of a past. If they weren't command-line driven then how would u run a rom outside of running from the GUI?

Good deal! I know your frustration. I wish they all at least stayed in some sort of standard instead of reading each help file or searching for the correct parameters. It gets very overwhelming. ;)

Not sure if you remembered to send numbers rather than rom names from your response. Tempest's tool for mameemumap.ini generation takes care of this for you. If you don't go that route, you will want to rename the files to numbers and use a map file to link the new file names to something meaningful.

you know,I have never had as many issues with a emulator as I do with zinc....im starting to wonder if the games that it plays are actually worth the aggravation!anyway, now I cannot get video snaps to work.they work when I select playstation games under mame, but not when I have it setup as a emulator....I had thought about them being named wrong, but then why would they play one way and not the other?

Zinc games are based on Sony Playstation hardware. If you can find a similar game for PSX, you don't need to use Zinc at all. It does take a while to get up to speed on setting up Zinc, but once it's running you won't need to change anything.

There's always a way for anything if work is put into it. But doing this wouldn't be a good solution. That would be a frontend launching a frontend. And since it's not command-line friendly then would have to script something. I would just use zenith to setup zinc and then use the command-line generated in zenith to run the rom with GameEx using it's integration. That is the best and easiest solution of incorporating into the MAME menu and there won't be issues with snaps or anything.

No. They should work if using integration. The only time the snaps would need to be numbered is if ZiNc was being used as a stand alone emulator. I'm not sure how it works for the mame emu mapping feature. But if using integration, everything matches up. ZiNc uses my MAME video snaps just fine.

barely related, but is there a zinc forum out there somewhere? i've had no luck ever getting the blasted thing to work in windows 7, and google is a bit scant on information on the subject.

There's lots of forums out there that cover it somewhat but nothing too detailed. We have very knowledgeable people here that can help in getting this to work. If you want, I can remote in and see what problems you're having.

Correct. I have 61 listed. It all has to do with filters. Filters make all the difference which is why I have setup both integrated and as a stand alone emulator. I never cared to spend too much time figuring it all out. LOL.

Maybe this has already been suggested, but you could set Zinc up as a separate emulator (not integrated) and then use the mameemumap.ini to integrate it...then keep it displaying as its own emulator. That way, you have it built into the MAME list and it shows up as its own list too. I've done it this way in the past and it works quite well.
