I've just started using GameEx, and I lreally like the interface, though I've found a few oddities:

1) GameEx destroys my desktop when something goes awry. If somethings broken and GameEx doesn't load (for example, an incorrect MAME rom directory), GameEx changes my background image (to black), and doesn't allow me to right click to change the resolution. Are there any better ways to do full screen without changing the background?

2) When refreshing the MAME roms list, the screen shows no data (though it still has the basic template), and flashes multiple times, presumably for each ROM added. Again, nothing is shown, so it looks like the GameEx is broken, in a loop, etc.

Just some initial thoughts, hope this helps!

can't help you with 1)

but 2) - well, have you tried waiting for a long time to see if any roms are added. mine does the same thing with no progress or anything but it will add all the roms at the end and everything will run fine.

let us know more as and when you try it. thanks.

Hi Spyhunter,

Yep, the ROMS do finally get into the list, just it looks very 'odd' when doing it. I'm assuming some text was meant to be displayed (such as 'Adding 1942 (set 1)' ) but it just never gets displayed.

Regarding #1, what would be nice is if Tom included a small program (just something we can get to in the start menu) that we can run to restore the desktop and task bar if GameEx bombs out for some reason.

The older way of hiding the desktop had similar issues with losing the task bar. The solution is to just run GameEx again and close it.

how about adding some command line switches to gameex, like -restoredesktop, so we dont need more exes (or would that be slow to load?)

This should not be a problem now anyway in the latest release, the desktop is now restored if GameEx exits with an error, and unhandled exceptions in GameEx are extremely rare. Startup, and the entire main loop is trapped (unconventional I know). Of course the Hide Desktop setting can be turned off to.
