@Freq - That seemed to have worked very well setting up Zinc separately first with zenith then running the .bat and using that command line in GameEX. Now the game do start but I cannot get and Snaps/Vidoes to show up on the Emulator page?

Am I suppose to use the my MAME vids dir/Snaps? I do have all of them. Of course runnin gZenith I do get to see the Snaps that came built into the Zenith front-end.

I'm gonna tackle Daphne next and I have all the Roms/CHDs/Snaps/Vids any tips? Is it better as seperate Emu or through GameEX?

Glad that worked out for you. As far as your snaps, I would point them to your MAME vids/snaps. This is how I have it. I haven't paid much attention if they all are shown since they may have different rom names. If not then there are sets around that you can download to match them. I would just fill in the blanks or rename as needed as they are pretty much the same.

Now for Daphne, I would use GameEx's integration. It would be much easier to setup that particular emulator than to setup each individual rom. It can be done but that depends on what you want to do.

hmmm Strange I do have it pointing to my MAME Dir for Videos/snaps but nothing is showing...Strange

Iam using the prebuilt MAP file for Zinc, do you think the names are different or something and do not match the videos?

Ahhhh yes. When using as a standalone emulator then I'm pretty sure the artwork names have to be the name of the rom which are numbers because of the map file.

That's one advantage to using the mameemumap.ini file. Since it maps the mame roms to the numbers that zinc wants to see, it will get the artwork correct out of the box.

Posted

Just use the GameEx integration and use the command-line that you used after setting it up. Now your roms will be ran in the MAME section and the snaps will match as well.

Posted

That's probably the easiest thing to do. If for some reason you need to use a loader or launch something at the same time as zinc, then you will need to look into the mameemumap.ini support. If you are happy with just launching zinc as is, then definitely at least try the built in zinc integration into MAME.

Always something with this Emulator....lol

So I'm thinking the pre-built MAP file list only the games that I wanna play but I need to match up the Rom number(currently in the Map file) to the actual [ROM].zip to match the MAME Videos/Snaps?

This is a perfect example of what I was talking about earlier.

What the best way to create your own MAP file?

I scoured the internet and found the Zinc [Rom number] - [Rom Game] - Rom.zip] name

LOL. Yeah! This emulator is a pain in the way it was made. But Tom did a great job of integrating it into GameEx.

Well if you use the GameEx integration then the map file will not be needed. Tom takes care of this in code and your snaps will match since it won't depend on them being named after the rom number. It would be the best and easiest way.

That list can be generated by ZiNc itself. It is how I generate the names for the map file that I created. I generate my own map files using an app I wrote just for this. I got tired of making them by hand. There are other tools out there that can be used to make them but not as easy. Again just use integration and there won't be so much work. Zenith (frontend) and GameEx would have taken care of all the work needed to make it easy to run.

I used Excel to do it at one point (prior to using mameemumap.ini). You can probably use Python or another language more quickly if you are good with something supporting RegEx. I just have become used to bruit forcing Excel into doing the job for me.
