Hey Guys, ran into a new issue and was hoping someone else experienced this and has an answer.

When running GameEx for long periods of time the screen goes black. The system isn't dead, GameEx is still running but the screen just goes black. If you hit the windows key the taskbar will come up with two tabs 1. is the gameex button but 2. is the Command Prompt button. If I click the Gameex button the game comes back, clicking the Command Prompt button does nothing. Placing the pointer over that tab just shows the gameex path (C:emulator\arcade\gameex). I can only assume that the command propmt box popping up has something to do with this issue. Any ideas? I was hoping that there are some suggestions prior to having to come up with the error report. The machine isn't with me (parents) and it's quite a trip to get to it.

Definitely not something as simple as that. It seems as if GameEx is relinguishing control to another program to be the top window. The only other window is the command prompt window which points to the gameex directory. No idea what would make that open up.

It is definitely the command prompt that is causing the issue. The thing now is to discover what the command prompt is so we can fix it. Does it happen with a certain emulator?

I've only seen it happen during MAME but there hasn't been much playtime with anything other than MAME so I'm not sure if others are having an issue too. Is there something I can do to Gameex to keep it from "hogging" windows? Meaning when I hit the windows key and I see the command prompt tab on the bottom is there anything I could do to make Gameex let me view the window when maximized instead of forcing a black screen?

Run a game where this occurs and then after that, post your runitgame.bat file contents. Instructions on how to do so can be found here by Mod Tempest. This will maybe give us an idea of what else is running. If that doesn't work we can always use a 3rd party tool like Process Explorer to see what other processes are running along with GameEx to cause this issue. The only command prompt I would think should run is the prompt used to run MAME. But that shouldn't cause you to loose focus.

Guys, would a command prompt window that says

'modeler.exe' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

be the cause of my problems?

Um, possibly. ;)

Bkenobi prefers it if if you use the force to fix things. I use a hammer, with just the right amount of force. :P

This situation is actually covered in the link that Frequency gave you on the topic that I created called 'How to ask for help'.

Either the name of your exe is incorrect, the path is incorrect, you need to put quotes around your path. (EG: "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"), or a combination of the three.

On a rare occasion an emulator doesn't like the quotes around the path.

ok TEMPEST.... I hit my cabinet with a hammer as you said but it still has the same issue. Did you mean for me to hit bkenobi instead?

@BK - I thought it was funny! :P

King Homer - Do you still need Help? Did you read my previous post? If you can't get it, post your config.

I'll post my config next time I use the machine. I was thinking about your resolution but don't think that's it. If the path was wrong it would happen every time, not without rhyme or reason like it has been.
