Hi all

I'm at work so dont have my .ini with me but...

I'm building the madness arcade Machine, want to use Gameex as my FE

Problem is...apart from being ridiculously stupid, I cannot get the mame overlay effects (scanline simulation)to come on when I run mame through Gameex.

I have no probs when using the mame ui or the cmd version.

Has anyone else experienced this or am I a config ning nong?

Navigate to your mame directory via a command prompt. Type Mame.exe -cc (or whatever you use to run mame) a MAME.INI will be created, you can edit that ini and setup how mame renders the game, aspect ratio, art etc...

If you dont want to you the mame INI, you have to specify your options in the command line, use the gameex advanced configuration > mame settings. and add there

It does work!

Thanks Brian

I had mame ini up through the -cc cmd

edited 'effects' line I think it was to ###.png in my artwork folder.

I must of coded something wrong as gameex initiated the game but point blank refused to show the png overlay.

After this I tried mameui and set effects through the interface, this worked when running mame on its own but I must have something wrong, as it caused gameex to hang on a black screen at the point between showing a control panel and game initiation.

I would prefer to use the original mame cmd, editing the ini (more room for rom goodness)

will have another go this evening anyway.

will also try the cmd line in the gameex config

I will let you know how it goes anyway

Or you can run Mame with mameuifx32.exe,where you can specify all the options, including the overlays.

Thanks guys...

Last night I dumped mameui went back to mame cmd, changed 'effects <none>' to 'effects <###>' in the .ini

Went to my usual test rom '1942'

It worked and the png overlay was working.

Went to 64street and overlay was working there as well

Positive result.

initiated GameEx\mame\1942(verticle game) and the effect was gone.

mmm

initiated GameEx\mame\64street(horizontal game) and the effect was working.

mmm

Went to GameEx advanced config, and turned of use bezel

then I initiated GameEx\mame\1942 and the effect was working...but had the graphic of the 1942 bezel running

and the game running in a rather small window within.

Tested a number of both verticle and horizontal roms with the same result

This for me is great, all I need to do now is get my verticle games to play using as much of the screen real estate as possible and I can start customising the GameEx ui

In the MAME.ini look for things like HWSTRETCH and KEEPASPECTRATIO or similar. Adjusting these will make vertical games take up the whole screen.
