hi

I installed gameex v 5.24 i turned off all filters etc and when i come to update list it gets as far as this

adding history.dat to game list (3354)

then the speakers buzz for a seconf and everything crashes

here is the log

any suggestions ?

Please explain in much more detail - "then the speakers buzz for a seconf and everything crashes "

This sounds like an issue with your hardware by the look of it. Also have you any screensavers or powersaving turned on that could affect this. Is your PC stable, ie is it overheating?

all drivers are up to date.. no problem with overheating or anything, i'm using an intel celeron 533 with xp sp1 .net framework 1.1 pc is on most of the time and no crashes from anything else... just gameex

oh yes, no screensavers and powersaving set to always on

As I said, please explain how it crashes. With a 533MHZ CPU for all MAME games the gamelist could take upwards of 45 minutes to update, and it does not always show progress.

It sounds like its not crashing, your just not waiting long enough.

i left it running while i went to work and it was still in the same poition when i got back, 8 hrs later, i'd say that was a crash wouldn't you

Yep that would be a crash, but you said the speakers made a sound, and then it crashed.

It's kind of hard to help when people dont explain things to well.

I, and nobody else on this forum can help you based on the information you gave. I know this, because I don't know the problem, its not been reported, and I wrote the thing!

Any more info you provide, would certainly help.

right, i've tried again to update the list... delete listinfo.dat,gamelist.txt..

at the moment its at adding history.dat to gamelist(1143)

it could be a problem with the board, apart from gameex, emuloader ( whick worked ok for the few times i tried it) and arcade jukebox 8... which gets used a lot...

hardware specs

intel celeron 533

his excalibur 9200 radeon pci graphics card

onboard sound card

wireless network card

160 gig hard drive xp sp1

i've using a 2 player control panel 4 buttons each connected to a mini ipac

direct x 9.0c

just been down to check it before posting and still at (1143) and the keyboard lights ain't working (caps lock, num lock etc)

i'll leave it for a while.. and if it don't work i've got a pentium 700 and another board , which i'll try it with and let you know the outcome

by the way would updating the history.dat file form the mame website help.. or is the version supplied with gameex the latest one

It does sound like it might be a hardware issue. You can try the following to help narrow down though, if it is a GameEx issue.

In the config app, under advanced settings, for history.dat and mameinfo.dat just delete the paths for those two settings, that way GameEx wont use them when updating the list. You could also try deleting the files from the GameEx\data directory and reinstalling just in case those files got corrupted.

The files may be a couple of versions old, but as far as I know they work for everyone else.

Try these things:

1. Defrag your HDD (Right click the drive in Explorer->properties->Tools->Defrag Now...

2. Delete listinfo.dat/gamelist.txt and download latest history.dat/mameinfo.dat and overwrite the old ones.

3. Re-install GameEx with the latest version.

4. Download Process Explorer from Sysinternals and kill every task under explorer.exe (hilight each one and hit DEL, then confirm)

5. Launch GameEx and try another update.

Double check you have no screensaver and all monitor power settings including "Turn off hard disks", "System standby" and "System hibernates" are all set to Never.
