ePSXe stalling

I'm just setting up new install on Win7 and things are going well.

I've just set up ePSXe and having a problem. The games work ok if i'm just running the emulator (tried both 1.6 and 1.7) but from GameEx it goes to start up the emulator and just hangs on a black screen(1.6) or black screen with the controller info box top right (1.7). Will still go back to GameEx if i hit Esc key.

I've tried all the controller options in ePSXe with GameEx and still get same results. Tried two controllers in all USB ports. Controllers work ok with other emulators i've set up.

I thought maybe GameEx was not releasing control of controller totally so added a wait 4000 in wait before keys in GameEx setup for this emulater.

Is there anything obvious that i'm missing??

pSX works OK i just set that up to run PS1 games instead. Still strange about ePSXe though.

So i've tried everything i can think of and if possible i'd like to stick with this emulator because it's the one i know but if i have to will have to move to another.

Was this ever resolved? I am having the same issue with the black screen and trying to load ePSXe.
