GameEX video playback problems

so I have a bunch of video's that do not playback using GameEX and DDFshow. It just shows black, then goes back into GameEX. I have everything updated all the way. Is there a way I can get it to support it? Can I use VLC player as an external player? Can I add codecs to FFDshow? etc etc
