Demul 5.5

Hey is there anyway to get Demul 5.5 going in Game Ex? I would like to be able to do Atomiswave & Naomi. I have read about Makaron but I can't find the different roms for it nor do I own a EEPROM reader to dump my personal collection of carts and GD-ROM(s). Any help would be appreciated.

Well yes and no. (with some added history)

Yes: There is a loader, you can find it on Demul forums. It works with all frontends (Execpt Gameex) unless it has been updated (again). The loader is written by Guy Peters and will work with the Demul 5.5 and create configs and such for you. The loader has specific instructions in it to close if it detects the Gameex or Gameex related process are running. I know this because for fun I de-compilied the loader. I believe the source to the loader was posted at the Emumovies forum after some debate. I cannot recall if those posts exist anymore.

No: I personally whipped up an Atomiswave loader, as I was really excited that DEMUL emulated Atomis wave and was the first emulator of its kind that could. Demul will load Dreamcast,Naomi,Naomi2 and Atomiswave. While playing with the emulator I noticed it suffers from random crashing. Which means no joy for actually trying to play a game. If I let Dolphin Blue sit in attract mode for 5 minutes or so it will crash. Needless to say I kinda dropped the idea of making a naomi and naomi 2 loader for it, it just is not a stable emulator.

This is magnafied by other emulators that do not crash my system like Makaron. It is very stable and fast and fairly updated almost regularly. However it does not at this time run Atomis wave or Naomi2.

We also have NullDC which will run Dreamcast and Naomi games. It has been recently updated to 1.04. You can download the binary and source from google code as it has been made available from the developer DrkRaziel. He has also stated that he is done working on the emulator.

So, personally I am waiting for a stable release of Demul to get me excited again. Or a version of Makaron that will emulate the systems discussed.

Basically what I am saying is, Demul is not an easy system to write a loader for because of the way it uses lists to call the rom. No one else here has a loader they are hoarding. The people that can write a loader for it either do not have a interest in it or do not have the images to test the loader once written.

So, I will conclude your post is not being ignored.

ok. I let Melty Blood run for about a half hour with no problem. I have tried various tutorials to make roms that Null DC & Makaron will run with no success. All Makaron does is boot with this game is not acceptable with game board. I dunno. I guess Demul will just have to be run outside game ex for now at least until I can scrape up a coding for dummies book As for images there's a demul 5.5 complete torrent floating around. I wish I could dump my Naomi collection. I just need more time off of work to play my boards I guess Thanx Brian. I thought maybe people were sitting on some config files.
