WHat is the best codecs to install on Windows 7 x64 as I tried Sharks007 and K-Lite and everytime my intro video plays when I launch GameEx it runs but when I skip it to enter GameEx then GameEx crashes and I can't run GameEx unless I uninstall the codec package.

I generally recommend those codecs. Im using them without issue. Is there any log when it crashes? What format is the video in?

AVI format. Not sure about log, I get the windows 7 window that says GameEx shutdown error. When i uninstall the codecs, GameEx runs again.

Just to see what's up, I just installed the Sharks007 codec pack and now my GameEx behaves the same way. It crashes as soon as it tries to play the music library after the intro vid. I'm going back to my old codec pack now.

The same thing happens with the K-lite codec pack. I tried.

I wouldn't give up on the Sharks007 codec pack so easy. It has alot of settings and you can change the default codec for certain file types. It depends on what format your videos are in, but say they are Xvid then there is the ffdshow codec and the Xvid codec included. The Xvid codec has settings you may need to adjust. If it keeps crashing try the ffdshow codec (libavcodec). More than likely it's a bug in a codec that will be fixed in a future release. But you should at least be able to change codecs to one that works. I believe EmuMovies uses Xvid format for it's avi's.

Well like he said the video plays but as soon as it ends or you skip it and go into GameEx then it crashes.

I seriously think it has something to do with the Windows Media Player Library if you use those codec packs. It crashes just as it's about to load the library. And I think I tried this, setting the Audio mode to "Audio Tags" instead of Media Library avoids the crash.

Well I tried that after installing K-lite codec mega pack and it crashes again. Actually it get about 10 sec into my video then GameEx crashes. Uninstalled the codec pack and GamEx works again.

I just tested this myself on the new HTPC setup and I too am having issues. I will work with Tom on this to resolve. Hope we can find a solution.

I hate to jack an old thread but it seems appropriate. I too am having issues playing videos. First I installed the K lite Codec pack for win7 64 bit. My vidoes will preview in fullscreen but when I go into "Multimedia" "Videos" and try to play them the video plays just in the bottom left of my screen. I uninstalled K Lite and using Windows 7 built in XVID support the video does the exact same thing. Any Ideas? now if I boot back on the XP side it works fine.

Are you running the latest version of GameEx? Tom fixed an issue where this might apply. If not then we'll do some testing and see what we can come up with.
