i'm using custom menu and it works just fine. is there any way to rename the MAME category so that it conforms with the "[Console] Nintendo NES (nestopia)" format?

I think you can use 'Custom Text', and edit the relative Mame Information.

Otherwise, set Mame up as an emulator?

the only problem i've seen with setting mame up as an emulator si that as opposed to listing game names, it ends up listing the labels on the .zip files themselves. not the cleanest option.

you might try going through the gameex config utility again. i know there's some sort of option to put everything on the start page, but i can't remember what it's called (and am away from home) at the moment.

your issue might be as simple as switching something from 'true' to 'false'

If you set up MAME as an emulator, you can use a database to get it to list the "clean" name. GameEx does create an "Arcade.mdb" database as far as I remember.

IT'S IN THE GAMEEX\CONFIG FOLDER! IT'S CALLED CUSTOMMENU.INI smile.gif

You can change the display name of mame as you want using custom text. You can also change the name using custom menus. I verified both methods.

Perhaps custom menus is a registered feature? Did your friend buy a licence? Is custom menus enabled?

where do you modify 'custom text'. i'm googling around and i can't seem to find any information about it. is this only part of the specific emulator configuration? i'm looking for a way to modify this for the 'mame' category in gameex.

also, is it possible to use advanced configs for mame in it's default menu location? or do i have to add it to my list of emulators.

It's the last item on the first page. You have to select -Custom- as your language.

Why would you need an advanced config for Mame?

i use a combination of joypad buttons to exit emulators as opposed to the escape or back key.

using a ps2 controller

pressing all four trigger buttons +start +select closes the emus and goes back to gameex. this is enabled through advanced config. mame is the only system i have no control over if using the joypad alone.

you should be able to set it up in Mame using the UI menu (tab) Look for the Input general > user interface > UI cancel
