16th April, 2010 - GameEx 10.56

The main configuration ini file is now stored and operated on in memory. This allows potentially significantly faster loading and operation of GameEx, and also much faster upgrade of GameEx when installing this and future versions. Fixes windows media player and iTunes playlists. Fixes issue when emulator treated as single pc game and the info page is not enabled.

Just wanted to add, If youve got virus scanning software installed such as nod32 - This results in a massive improvement in startup speed, and install upgrade speed.

Id be interested to hear results in speed increases. I know some of you are not lucky to have as new hardware as me :)

And even my stuffs up to three of more years old or more now.

Managed to improve startup speed a bit more by caching theme.ini.

Uploading a new version now. Same version number.

How is startup on 10.57?

Other than my other current issue here I've noticed something that might be to do with the settings being loaded to memory in the latest version

On my working PC, I go into the GameEx Config and set it to run windowed but it insists on running fullscreen. Then when I exit and go back to look at the config the value has been set back to fullscreen again

Also, I have the display settings set to Set Resolution to below and that set to 640 by 480

Yet my crash log now says

00:58:44.1 17/04/2010: Setting Resolution to 800x600 32 bit color

Also if youve turned off the allow window resizing option it will force full screen too.

GameEx will also try to run at 800 x 600 if it fails running at 640 x 400. So I think all is well with GameEx. Although I realise that does not resolve your issue.

I'm not convinced Tom, I have set my desktop resolution to 1280x1024, set GameEx not to change my resolution and set it to window mode but it still flicks to full screen.

What do I need to do to run in a window?

Im not sure what the problem is. It could be the saved window positions got messed up. You can check in gameex.ini. Its under [internal]

Also if allow window resizing is turned off it will force full screen.

I've tried let having let GameEx change resolution on and off but neither make any difference I always get full screen, window mode definitely used to work as anytime I mess about writing a plugin I ran gameEx in a window so I could check my log file.

my GameEx.ini has the following

Windowed=False

windowx=0

windowy=67

windowwidth=640

windowheight=480

but after I run GameEx the ini changes to Windowed=True

Apart form the show windows controls setting, the other setting that forces windowed mode is Arcade mode. Are either of those on?

Thanks for the persistent work on GameEx!!!

I'm not sure what versions I'm comparing for startup time (GameEx.ini version=10.50 in both...)

I think it's 10.52 vs. 10.57.

10.52 => 20 seconds

10.57 => 11 seconds

That's almost 50% improvement (on an already fast load)!

Verifying that the installation of Iso, and Karaoke now works.

10.55 Startup time 50.6 seconds

10.56 Startup time 13.4 seconds

10.57 Startup time 11.6 seconds

I should mention that I have 128 emulators enabled. I'd say that is pretty quick! smile.gif

I was wondering, now that you are reading the ini from memory, would be possible to modify the ini on the fly, for randomization, user preferences, etc?

It would be a nice addition to have these working natively from GameEx. cool.gif
