I know that the database system uses Goodroms, No-Intro, and TOSEC. I also know that not every system has all three dat files available. I believe the preferrred order is No-Intro, Goodroms and TOSEC. I find that I catch myself having all three sets (If available) for each system. Because of this I often have a system setup 3 times in GameEx. One setup for each of the dat files. ( I do exclude the Goodroms that are bad or incomplete dumps)That way I have all the roms for each system. Different regions, hacks, demos, No-intros etc. I have even thought of merging all of these into one combined list.

What do the rest of the users use as the preferred method of dats. I don't believe I'm the only one that wants to have any any all roms available for a system. Its always fun to play that demo version or hack that is just a little different when friends are admiring your cabinet. Yes, we all spent alot of time refining our games and systems. But, that a big part of making your cab the best it can be.

Can a list be kept on GameEx somewhere that says what the preferred dat file to use by users for each system.

Would be nice to know that for system X the preferred dat file for users is Goodtools or TOSEC.

Obvisously if for say Playstation, the only dat file that is being worked on in the database is TOSEC

That one be the one users would know to keep that dat file uptodate to get the most usage from the database.

Toughts and comments.

i use no-intro sets for all systems where no-intro is available. I then filter to only have US roms so that i have a video for all the games (emumovies)

I wouldn't consider myself a collector since i'm really just up for playing the favorites i used to know and occasionaly a new game i never tried (happens rarely)

Since I live in Germany I once included european versions and even japanese. but whenever people came over and were trying to find a specific game the list was too cluttered so i reverted back to only us roms. especially for the old consoles like nes and snes most mayor titles were world wide releases so having only us roms is fine for me. the only "extras" i'm having is a small hand picked list of hacks for super mario world since they are really fun to play.

i guess i mostly have usability of my cab in mind. i always ask myself what would be the most simple approach of usability so people who don't know the cab can easily find their favorites.

the only system i have twice in my list is playstation since epsxe just looks better but psxfin can emulate some more games (though it looks pixelated due to the approach of emulating the psx gfx engine without modern 3d acceleration)

just my two cents ;)

You can use the 'Merge Sets' feature (Emulator setup - page 4) to only show one rom in the list, but show the variations on the game info page.

You could merge these two emus into one list by using an emulator group.
