installed zinc automatically through gameex

refreshed mame game list

playstation category shows up

zing is verified at the end of setup

yet none of the games load. it just jumps right back into gameex.

looking at the gameex setup utility, i found under zinc options "--renderer=.\renderer.znc"

i found no renderer.znc in the zinc directory. do i need to download this separately?

i downloaded both a d3d and an opengl renderer from the zinc website, and copied the renderer.znc into the main zinc directory, and now zinc actually does open, but it hangs just a moment after with the 'zinc.exe has stopped working' message.

i've tried using the included renderer.cfg file that came included with these renderers as opposed to the one that downloaded along with zinc, but it didn't change the effect.

is there something obvious that i'm missing?

Did you try getting the Zinc files from here

I know it talks about setting it up seperatley using bat files, but it may solve your crashing issue.

yeah, i actually found that post a while ago and gave it a shot.

i'm not sure if it's progress or not, but now at least the the entire screen goes to black before zinc.exe stops responding, as opposed to it being in a window before crashing.

i'm not sure what i'm supposed to do. do i need to manually tell zinc where the rom folder is or something?

does zinc work on default settings for most people? as it is downloaded through the gameex setup utility?

still no dice i'm afraid. the launcher works just fine, but once it attempts to actually run zinc.exe, the problem persists. is zinc known to be compatible with windows 7? would anyone mind sending me their zinc directory?

I put my ZINC stuff in my mame folder.

i have all of the roms in the mame directory of course, but i keep the zinc stuff in its own separate folder along with all of my other emulators. getting model2 to run was a piece of cake. i'm thinking at this point it might just be a compatibility issue. is zinc known to work with windows 7? i've been googling around for a helpful zinc forum, but there doesn't seem to be one.

ZiNc is working fine here on Windows 7. What kind of errors do you have running outside of GameEx? ZiNc sends it's output to the command window so I would start there first to see what's going on. One way of doing so is to run the runitgame.bat file and see what happens. Please give the details of the error or crash.

here's what i'm getting in the windows from trying to load through gameex

opening game: ehrgeiz (us) ver. a [ehrgeiz]

dynachicken compiler initialising

memory access caching version

cpu identification: amd unknown model

optimizing for: unknown class

rom files loaded ok

JAMMA keyboard driver 1.0 initialized

then the 'zinc' window shows up, and the next thing i know i'm looking at the 'zinc.exe has stopped working' window.

hope this helps. perhaps i need to redownload the jamma keyboard driver or something.

edit: is it possible that zinc is looking for an outdated version of the roms? i downloaded zincgui to give it a test, and it claims that the 'roms are not found'

they're named correctly and they're in the default folder (after i copied them from my main mame folder) and yet..nothin'

edit2: some of the roms come back with the 'correct' tag signifying that they are recognized as being current zinc roms, but they also report back the same error when i try to run them.

edit 3: i'm about to give up. nothing i do can convince this program to run. i'm not sure what hte problem is, especially considering that no one else seems to be having a problem. oh a hunch i copied zlib1.dll from my epsxe directory into the zinc directory to see if it made any difference, but it didn't.

is there an alternative that i can use? and if so, is it possible to implement it through gameex in a similar fashion? i love how gameex allows you to use one huge mame rom list and yet delegate other emulators to run them. i've read that mame plus plus (discontinued) used to be able to use zincs plugins to help render. is there a current mame offshoot that can help me get these games running?

You really should build your roms to match this particular emulator. Using MAME roms might/can give errors. If you wanna chat then go to the chat room and we can talk on real time to troubleshoot. I'm sure it's something simple. Don't give up!

managed to finally get zinc working, but only through my xp partition. for some reason it doesn't seem to be compatible with windows 7 64 bit. does anyone have any advice? i've attempted using compatibility modes and such, but it always crashes on startup.
