hi,

when the gamex screen saver kicks in, it loads a game up but then the mame input scren pops up wanting a button to be pressed before the game actually starts (same as when you launch a game thru gamex)....

is this supposed to happen? i hope not as its not very pleasant to see a black screen with a blue prompt box in the middle.....

Are you referring to the "press ok or left then right to continue" message in MAME? If so, this only happens the first time you load a game. I thought Tom addressed this many versions ago by creating a cfg file for the rom before it was run, but maybe not.

Anyway, the easiest solution is to compile your own version of MAME using HK's compiler. It used to be stickied, but you can either search the forum for it or find the link listed on the main site. The process really is easy...don't get intimidated!

thanks for the reply....yes, i was referring to the "press ok or left then right to continue" message in MAME.

this happens with every game i want to play plus the gamex screensaver (the screensaver is what i find annoying)....

compiling mame sounds very daunting to a newbie!

any reason why this is happening?

Yes. The MAMEdevs want people to know that the games are not perfect and so they put up a message saying so. It is possible to remove this warning by compiling your own version that removes it from the code (well, it actually just turns it off). It's very easy to compile MAME if you use the compiler HK put together. You simply follow the short set of directions and within 15-20 minutes (mostly compile time) you have a new custom version. You don't have to know anything about the code either since there are patches you simply select to include.
