Ok, I had been using an older version of GameEx and couldn't get it to play my .avis and .mpegs in my media folder. So, I went ahead and updated to the newest version of GameEx, 1.36. After doing that, the videos played fine and I thought I had solved everything. Turns out I have a new problem. Now when I watch a video the screen goes black and the audio cuts off after about 20 minutes. It does it on all my videos. I can hit the cancel button and it will go back to the GameEx menu. So, any ideas what could be causing this? Sorry to bombard the forums with a bunch of new threads, but I've been using the search option and don't find any solutions.

If I can't get this to work, would it be possible to use an external video player like Windows Media Player?

I guess my first question would be, What is running in the background of your PC that is taking focus away from Gameex every 20 minutes? Have you installed gameex on a diffrent pc, played a video file from it just to see if it is some rogue service?

The only things I have running are GameEx, Xpadder, and AVG anti-virus. I don't have the HTPC hooked up to the internet, and I have the minimum number of programs running so it doesn't eat up resources. Keep in mind, this only happens when I watch a video with the GameEx media player. Doesn't happen with Windows Media Player. It's like clockwork, no matter what video I'm watching. I could probably get a stopwatch and time it and will happen at the same time no matter what it is I watch. I haven't tried installing GameEx on a different computer to see if it will happen again. I guess I could try that and it see what happens.

Like I said before, sorry for all the new threads, but I always have all sorts of weird problems that I can't find anywhere else on the forums.

At the bottom of 'Enable/Disable Features (3)', there are 2 settings, 'Auto Exit Games After', And 'Auto Exit Inactivity'. I would check those.

That's strange, because I only have 'Auto Exit Games After' on my 'Enable/Disable Features' list, which was already disabled. I'm using the latest version of GameEx, plus I looked at the older version that I had been using before and it doesn't have an 'Auto Exit Inactivity' option either. Regardless, I've left games running well over half an hour without any activity and it has never cut off. It only happens when watching videos.

Sounds like your monitor is going into powersave. Albeit GameEx should probably stop it doing that, but it sounds like the issue to me.

Tom, you were right. I had the screensaver turned off, but I didn't go into the powersave options in XP. I thought that since inactivity didn't affect the emulators that it wouldn't affect the video player but I was wrong. Thanks

There was someone in another thread who complained about the quality of assistance with GameEx. Well, I have to say that the help offered on this forum for GameEx is outstanding! Thanks Tom, Brian, Frequency, and all the others on this forum for your help!

Can you point me to that thead? I obviously missed that! Occasionaly something slips through.

Tom, I tried to find that thread but I was doing so much searching that I can't remember which one it was. I think it was posted back in December, but I really don't remember which one it was. Sorry. Thanks again for the help!

I think it may have been Steveuneven or BSebastian01, forgive me if I am wrong. I believe there was a dupe post of a question at emumovies forum where it got answerd by matt or me. We do tend to hang out various places. Ill see if I can find it.

I think this is resolved though.

Thanks for the kind words Lucas :)

No worries Brian, im guessing it was over the holidays. I spent a lot of that in a bit of a trance!

Thanks.

Well, Ranzo has been very involved in the forums since then, I would guess that he saw that we do try to help. Very few people actually put the effort into helping others, so thanks to Ranzo for the Mame/Daphne guide, and for helping others here in the forum.
