Hi,

I created a shortcut and placed it under All Users >> Start Menu >> startup (also tried under the admin user)

However when the system starts up and Gameex tries to start the following error is thrown

RRORS DETECTED: EXITING

08:58:46.4 12/01/2010: Error in the application.

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: at Microsoft.DirectX.DirectDraw.Surface.DrawInternal(tagRECT* destRectangle, Surface sourceSurface, tagRECT* srcRectangle, DrawFlags flags, DrawEffects& bltEffects)

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: Please note the following for possible solutions to your problem:

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: 1. Ensure you have the latest version of DirectX installed.

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: 2. Ensure you have the latest Manufacturer provided video card drivers.

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: NOTE: Windows/Microsoft Update does not contain the latest.

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: NOTE: Manufacturer normally means ATI, NVidia, or Intel. Not the brand.

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: www.ati.com www.nvidia.com

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: 3. If you do not have a modern video card try the following. 1. Turn off advanced Graphics. 2. Try a lower resolution. 3. Try turning on and using 16-bit colour

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: 4. Ensure any required video codecs are installed.

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: 5. Try a different theme, or try running the theme at the resolution it was designed for

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: 6. Try the latest version of GameEx. GameEx is updated all the time.

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010: 7. If you performed an auto update to this version. Try performing a manual download and install.

08:58:46.5 12/01/2010:

It works fine if I then try to open it up after though.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Im guessing you have some video card driver loading as a service, perhaps even a try utility exists. That is not loaded immediately when gameex is called so your getting the directX error.

you can create a AHK script to wait 3-5 seconds then call Gameex, this may delay enough to run successfully.

This was my vague assumption. I might just knock up a quick DOS script to do this for me

cheers for the suggestion. I am using ArcadeVGA and it may be the control centre for catalyst
