Hi All,

I have the snes full set, out of the set i would like to take only certain roms i.e. (U) [!], (E) [!]

to list in game ex.

is there an easy way to search in side multi zip files and pull out just what i want.

The files are zipped with 7z. i have tried a search with win rar with no luck and 7z doesn't seem to have a search option.

So do you want them removed from your hard drive or just from the list within GameEx?

fRequEnCy,

I would like to remove them from my HD once ive removed and .zip (rather then .7z as my emulator will not open them) the ones i want to keep. But if i can filter out all the roms i dont want with in GameEX then that might be an option.

on a side note will GameEX open an .7z zipped rom before running the rom through the emulator?

Might I assume that you're dealing with a goodmerged set? If so there are 3rd Party tools found at the Cowering's GoodTools site that can help with this. One that comes to mind is UnGoodMerge. There are options in GameEx to filter out the roms you want listed but since you want them removed from memory then that might not be the way you want to go but it is an option. Another suggestion might be to rebuild your set to the no-intro format and can use their site to generate a dat for you with the filters you want.

But to answer the question, yes, GameEx deals with .7z files. It is a registered feature and is one of the few frontends that does this. I personally would go this route. But to each his/her own.

There are so many options in this case so you must decide what you want to do first and then go from there. We can help you get the results you want once you make that decision.

Confusing huh? LOL. Sorry!

OK first of all as I'm new to emulation i don't have a full understanding of merged sets, from what i have read a merged set will have all the variants of a game in one compressed file?

all my zip files from the snes set have multiple roms for a given game in a single compressed file but whether this is a merged set or not is beyond me.

I've now moved all my roms to an external HD so keeping them in there full set is no longer a problem, so the route i will take is for GameEX to filter only the roms i would like, help with this would be nice.

i've been told by the wife not to spend any money before Christmas so i wont be registering untill next year so i've converted the .7z to .zip with winrar for this set this will let me get the hang of setting up GameEX to filter roms.

There are tools that allow you to scan your set to see how well it conforms to a dat file (say, a goodmerged set). Either way, you should be able to use Cowering's tools to fix your set up how you want.

I finally found a decent thread on what the 'Merge Sets' option looks like. Unfortunately, it is a registered feature. I thought that maybe if you saw how it works, you might not want to unmerge your sets.

Thanks for the reply Tempest but most of that was way over me LOL.

I ended up using Ungoodmerge to filter the roms i was after.
